Publisher's summary

She was a blond goddess, a box office megastar. Every woman wanted to be her; every man wanted to bed her. But over a year ago Devon Stafford vanished without a trace.

As a biographer, Jake Gannon taught himself to follow the clues of a person's life story like a detective. As an ex-Marine, he is accustomed to being firmly in control. But when his car dies in a little town called Mare's Nest on the Carolina coast, he has to admit he's come to a dead end.

There he meets a .38-toting tow-truck driver named Dixie La Fontaine. She is no celebrity, but Dixie had an irresistible sex appeal all her own. So what does this down-to-earth woman know about a missing movie star?

Surprisingly, quite a lot. And Jake is going to uncover it all, if Dixie doesn't end up shooting him first.

Heart of Dixie, Mismatch, White knight

Tami Hoag's romance novels are really bad ...... .while her mysteries are very good so hope she will stick with the latter and NEVER return to the former. I bought 3 of her early novels (inane romance genre) and could not plow thru any of them.

where do I go to get my 5+ hours back

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I do not know of anyone with a IQ low enough to enjoy this book

Would you ever listen to anything by Tami Hoag again?

no no no!!!!!!!! a very weak writer

Would you be willing to try another one of Deborah Hazlett’s performances?

no, she read this book like a bullet train.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Heart of Dixie?

this book suffered from to much editing in the wrong places, no real character development, long boring sex scenes

Too much mental foreplay. Not enough substance.

I bought this because I really enjoy Tami Hoag's police mysteries. I did not realize this one was a romance novel. Firstly, I have to admit I'm not a Romance novel kind of girl, so I'm not sure how to rate this. Maybe it was good and I just didn't appreciate it...Hmmm... That said, it read like five plus hours of lite foreplay with not a lot of substance. I couldn't "feel" at all for the characters. No depth to them. Yes, we get that Jake is hot. Yes, we get that Dixie is a bitter woman, hurt by men and others, and has trust issues. Yes, we get that Jake finds her hot in a girl-next-door kinda way. Would have liked more substance, character development, and background plot. Could have been a good romance mystery if that were done.
