This is my favorite of the Alpha Squad series!!

Hawken's parents deserted him at an early age, but thanks to his aunt he comes to know real love and acceptance. That suddenly disappears when she is diagnosed with terminal cancer and his would-be father, the admiral is shot before his eyes. And he is accused of the murder. His aunt's personal assistant, Nell, is the only other person to crack through his protective shell, the shell he needs to both do his job and get through a life of desertion, but while he loves her, he doesn't want to drag her into this life. The men of his gray group squad desert him after the admiral and their captain are shot and everyone believes he did it. But Alpha squad comes through for him through Nell and both the story and the ending are the best yet!

Another Romance/Action Combination

This book is a romance that introduces the characters of Jake Robinson and Crash Hawken, two of Brockmann's group of SEAL operatives. The main characters are bigger than life, but the exaggeration is enjoyable.

Gabra Zackman saved this story!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
just a mediocre story. had good potential, but poor editing

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
just Ok

Have you listened to any of Gabra Zackman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have many reads by ms Zackman aka Isabel Gordon, and she is a top professional with great male voices, but she had little to work with on this story. I am going to re listen in future and give it another chance.

Do you think Hawken's Heart needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
not for me

And yet another enjoyable Brockmann book

Where does Hawken's Heart rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

toward the top with the other SEAL books. I am glad I found this series. It is enjoyable with some action/suspense and of course, a predictable love story entwined.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hawken's Heart?

When they were relieving Daisy's days...can't really go into detail. It was just really heartwarming and heartbreaking.

Have you listened to any of Gabra Zackman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't think I did. I can't remember her from another book. However, I thought she was ok. I have heard better, but she did well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

In comparison to other Brockmann books, no.

Not as good as the previous books

Chapter 17 at 23:16 He would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for that meddling kid

This narrator wasn't as good as previous narrators with the SEAL's various accents.

good story but painful narration

Found the story to be one of the better ones of the series, but the narration was painful - the upward inflection at the end of every sentence (especially in the second half of the book) grew ever more of a distraction!
