Publisher's summary

An indomitable governess...a brooding Highlander...a forbidden affair...

An ill-fated elopement cost English-born governess Bernadette Holly her reputation, her unsuitable lover, and any chance of a future match. She has nothing left to fear - not even the bitter, dangerously handsome Scot due to marry her young charge. Naive wallflower Avaline is terrified to wed Rabbie Mackenzie, but if he sends her home, she will be ruined. Bernadette's solution: convince Rabbie to get Avaline to cry off...while ignoring her own traitorous attraction to him.

A forced engagement to an Englishwoman is a hard pill for any Scot to swallow. It's even worse when the fiancée in question is a delicate, foolish young miss - unlike her spirited, quick-witted governess. Sparring with Bernadette brings passion and light back to Rabbie's life after the failed Jacobite uprising. His clan's future depends upon his match to another, but how can any Highlander forsake a love that stirs his heart and soul?

Fantastic!

This and the other two books can be listened/read as a stand-alone. I highly recommend all of these books! Both the story and the narrator are fantastic!

Almost quit

The middle became pretty tedious but the ending almost made up for it. Don’t like so many flashbacks with lost fiancées. Also don’t like men lethargically walking into weddings they don’t want. A little witty repartee would have saved it. A disappointment compared to the wicked Scot story. That one was fun.

Highland Grooms Book Three

Highland Grooms Book Three

Bernadette Holly is along for the ride when her charge, Avaline, is sent to marry highlander Rabbie Mackenzie. Avaline is a naive girl who is afraid of everything and everyone, especially Rabbie. While the rest of his family tries to welcome Avaline and her family, Rabbie just cannot care enough to follow their lead. He is dead inside. Bernadette cannot stand the jerk who ignores her charge. She tries to encourage Avaline as much as possible, but she doesn't think much will come of the union.

If you're looking for a Highland story with several surprising story twists, this is the book for you!

Audio Review:
Derek Perkins has the perfect tone for this story (series). His ability to work with several accents and characterizations is fantastic.

Healing Power of Historical Highlands

Julia London really knows how to pull on a reader's heart strings! This is a story that will make you cry just a little near the end. Both of the main characters have suffered tragic losses of their first loves. Years later they still haven't learned to leave the past behind them and move on. Thankfully the chemistry is electric when they are together and they bring each other from the brink of despair.

There are many contemporary stories out there that have similar themes. It's refreshing to see the healing power of love revealed in a historical romance with a dashing (and obviously brooding) highlander.

Derek Perkins was amazing as usual with his varying unique vocalizations for each character. I can't wait for the next book by Julia London and narrated by Derek Perkins!

Tedious

I’m struggling to even give this 3 stars. Really enjoyed the first two books. This one just had zero chemistry and a boring plot line.
