Feeling Torn on this one...

What disappointed you about Guardians of Stone?

I wasn't crazy about the narrator.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I thought it was pretty good. I'm intrigued, I'd definitely like to listen to the next one to unsolved some more mysteries.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator kind of spoke weird. Almost like a lisp or something that frequently made her "s" sounds sound more like "sh." I guess it's nit-picky, but it bugged me. It just seems like if you're going to have someone narrate a book, you'd weed out things like that. I don't know...

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Interest mostly. One of the reviews I read for this compared it to a girl version of Indiana Jones. I love that series and I can definitely see how that comparison can be made. There was adventure and mystery and a bit of romance, although honestly, I like a little more romance than there was in this book, but I think it might be leading there a little bit. The main point of the story isn't for romance though, it's the adventure/mystery angle.

Any additional comments?

It's pretty cheap, so I think it's worth the buy.

I think I got 6 chapters in.

Renee Raudman really munched the scenery in this one, totally destroying the pacing and any sense of excitement or drama.

Glad I have it on Kindle. I might get around to reading it someday.

Funny Story?

I bought this recording hoping to get a decent paranormal adventure story. What I ended up with was a parody of Indiana Jones with heavy sexual overtones. The only thing missing was a walk on by the Keystone Cops. (Look it up Kids)! Needless to say I was disappointed with the entire book. Raudman did a fair job with the narration but she tends to get a bit melodramatic at times. It's hard to appreciate the drama when your laughing.

This Book Needs To Take A Cold Shower. Seriously.

What made the experience of listening to Guardians of Stone the most enjoyable?

I really enjoyed the fantasy elements of the story. I think it's an interesting mechanic and I'm excited to see where it leads.

Have you listened to any of Renee Raudman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this was a first. I have to say though - I wouldn't seek out her narration. Her accents in particular simply take me out of the story, especially when, in subsequent books, she uses the only distinct accent she does well for subsequent different characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed on more than one occasion, though it was more being taken aback by an off-color comment than anything else.

Any additional comments?

I really wish she sexual component of the books weren't so... prominent. There's definitely something to be said for sexual tension, but rather than "fantasy" being the primary category for this book it falls into "soft porn". The whole series suffers from the same problem. As I said previously, I think the fantastical part of the story, from the "ancient order" to the main character's pseudo-psychic abilities, are excellent. I can't really bring myself to recommend this to anyone I know personally though because of the overwhelming and mostly unnecessary sexual focus of the book.

Perfect for a Twenty-Something

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

More character development was needed for this storyline to really "fly". The protagonists attention spans and the plot was flighty. Even the scenes where danger was imminent, there were on-going sexual innuendos and jokes.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Laurie King, Russell Series

What does Renee Raudman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great depth and variety of voices - an engaging performer.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

A lively quick pace.

Good story a little slow in places.

What did you love best about Guardians of Stone?

This is a fascinating story that has interesting historical pieces.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I think the narrator of this story does a good job of keeping the story interesting and does a decent job with the voices.

Any additional comments?

This book is a good listen for when you are at the gym. It's not a book I had to listen too but looked forward to it when I was at the gym. It's a little draggy in places and then skips over some more interesting parts at the end...like the book just needed to get wrapped up. I'd buy it again.

Couldn't finish it

Couldn't even get through the 1st chapter due to sex this sex that. The story line seems good but the male chauvinistic crap just got to be to much. it was the typical let's look at the female as a sex object. And the narrator sounded like she has marbles in her mouth. Not for me

Dull

Story line, characters undeveloped. Waisted credit. Masterful example of good premise squandered. Incongruous narration

great listen!

this turned out to be much better than id expected, from some of the reviews. not sure why some of those ppl said what they did. there was Not any kind of 'soft porn' in here! that in itself makes me laugh. the book had a lot of flirting, their way of trying to understand why they have such immediate and deep feelings for each other.
i did laugh out loud many times, but the premise def makes a really intriguing storyline.
hit me with book 2!=)
