Publisher's Summary

If there was such a thing as an urban legend in Cotton Creek, it was Grady Judd. He'd broken the heart of every woman he'd ever kissed, and he'd kissed a plenty. Many tried to rope him, tie him down, and drag him to the altar, but Grady wasn't the marrying kind. In fact, no one was quite sure what kind of man Grady was. He showed up now and again, tended to his ranch, and then would disappear just as fast and never utter a word as to where he'd been when he came home again.

He was a sexy temptation, rolled up in a fine male package, and was all too willing to deliver a night of pleasure. He was also completely unwilling to let anyone inside his impenetrable wall. It was all fun and games or nothing at all.

Until he showed back up in Cotton Creek this time to discover that he's not the only heart breaker in town, which leads to a whole new game and an entirely new question. Could Grady Judd finally have met his match?

Good!

Really enjoyed this romance and I was excited this author wrote such a strong heroine. Loved Charli! Can't wait for book 2

Is there “more” to being a player?

I received this book for an honest review.

Two main characters, Grady and Charli, seen by world as players. They spend time with opposite sex, have a good time and do not do relationships. It all about to change when they meet and fall in love with each other. They fight it at first, but could to win the bottle with their heart.

This story has it all: love, passion, compassion, paranormal, suspense, and a little bit of thriller. Even though the story jumps from one style to the next, overall, this is very entreating book.

Narrator did a great job with different voices and emotions. The events in this book happen in Taxes and he has a great southern style of talking.

Good but...

The story was interesting but it felt a bit scattered. In the begin it seemed to be a cowboy romance, then it made a quick detour into some light paranormal, turned into suspense/romantic suspense, another quick stop at paranormal, then took a dive into thriller/police procedural and came back to romance.

There was just too much, too many directions being pulled at the same time, which left the story somewhat lost in the middle of it all.

It was also a bit short, which is surprises with so much plot all over the place. This story could easily be twice as long and better developed if a single genre was picked and explored in more depth. It would make a very good romantic suspense with more direction if all the side stepping was eliminated. But that's just one opinion, so check for yourself.

The narrative itself is good, even though 3rd person is not really my favorite.
The narrator did a very good job at it and his voice and the story had an old feel to it. No bad. Just not modern. It felt like one of those classic detective shows like Kojak or Columbo.

Grady Judd is my hero

This book was an excellent romance and the narrator's voice made this story come alive for me. The two main characters are both strong-willed and heartbreakers in their own way. Their demons have kept them from letting love inside.
Charlie was the new cop in town and Grady was a rancher and an undercover military man.
Excellent story and I have already listened to it a second time!

Perfect – Except for Touching the Supernatural

Grady Judd is a huge, hot, very sexy alpha male. Whenever he enters a room women swoon! No one can get him to commit to a relationship and he has a trail of broken hearts left in his wake.

Charlie (female) is a bada** cop. Her MO is much the same as Grady Judd's. She is a strong, built and pretty woman. She is used to being the dominant force in relationships, as well. Like Grady Judd, she has no desire for a relationship longer than a night or 2 with a hot man.

Both are also ex-military, special forces. When they meet, their personalities have them fighting for dominance.

This is a fantastic book, however, I felt it became less than perfect when it delved into the supernatural/speaking to the dead. This listener prefers books that happen in the here and now. I'm not a fan of anything paranormal/shifters/vampire/etc. and hate it when that isn't revealed in the publisher's summary. I am taking one star away from the story's rating.

J Scott Bennett is an extremely talented narrator. If I am interested in the book and see that Bennett is the voice performer, I will purchase it with the credit immediately. Yes, he is that good. 5 stars

Overall this is an excellent book with a few passages that I described above. The performance is brilliant and I do recommend it. (*I received an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for posting and unbiased review.)

Charli and Grady

Whow! What a start to a series, this book had everything, it made me laugh, it made me cry, it had me on the edge of my seat - I could not stop listening to this story.

Deputy Charli Sampson is a strong woman, who has served her country in the military and is now back in the US working in Cotton Creek as a deputy sheriff. She has been there for about six months and has made many friends. She does not fall in love and as far as she's concerned she's not looking for a permanent relationship with any man. Then one day she sees Grady Judd and things are never going to be the same again.

Grady is a heartbreaker, he's well liked in Cotton Creek but very few people know who he really is. He might own a ranch there but he doesn't work it. He comes and he goes without any explanations to anyone. He's not looking for a permanent relationship - he has no trouble picking up women in fact he's broken the hearts of most of the single women thereabouts. Then he sees Charli and for him things will never be the same again.

During this story we learn why Charli is the way she is, strong, loyal and dedicated to her job. She loves children but refuses to love a man. We also lean why Grady is the way he is but that's not all we learn. They both have deep abiding issues linked to loss.

Grady and Charli do get together but just when things are starting to become intense, Grady leaves and Charli has no idea when or if he will be back. What he is doing and why is revealed but as I don't give spoilers I will not say any more.

There is a killer out there and Charli is asked to work with the Texas Rangers and the FBI to find him, what happens next is intense, and dark and kept me on the edge of my seat. This is a fantastic story with elements of the supernatural, a light dusting of BDSM (nothing upsetting), terrorist action and a serial killer/killers.

This book should not be missed the writing style of Ciana Stone is fantastic and the storyline so well thought out and developed. The narration is well done and I am really looking forward to listening to the next book in this exciting series.

I was gifted a copy of this book and am voluntarily writing my review which states only my personal opinion.

Grady and Charli - a good match

I picked the book because of Mr. Bennett's voice, love his warm voice and I think fits Grady's character. Animated and rumbling at times, his voice is a pleasure to listen to. I hope he will narrate the next one in the series too.

This story had quite a lot happening. Loved both Grady and Charli, their chemistry is meshing from the beginning even though they both fight it. Both with military pasts with lots of combat are dealing with PTSD in their own way. I am glad that they finally get their HEA, but their journey is not easy. The story has suspense, some romance, small town gossip, mystery and a touch of paranormal. An enjoyable story, my first from Ms. Stone, will be checking out the others too.

Handsome Hunk Meets His Match

Ciana Stone has once again wtitten a romantic and exciting story with all of the elements that make listening to the audio so enthralling: hot and sexy guy finally meets his female counterpart and the interaction leads to sexy conversations and onto sexy lovemaking. Each has had incidents in their lives that leaves them afraid of commitment so at first it's just all fun and games. Slowly they begin to trust each other and share some scary events that draw them closer together. The narrator Scott Bennett has an exceptional talent in presenting both voices and brings the listener into their minds and hearts. This story will definitely satisfy the listener in many ways and bring the story alive visually in the listener's mind. Great teamwork Ciana and Scott!❤
