Publisher's summary

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author of science fiction and paranormal romance brings another action, adventure, and suspense-filled story to transport listeners out of this world. Gracie Jones was little more than a child when Earth was invaded by an alien species. Escaping into the subway tunnels of New York City, she hid in fear of being captured. Discovered by four men who became her protectors, she fought alongside them, and they became known as the Freedom Five. At 17, she made a decision that turned the tide in the war between Earth and the Alluthans, but in exchange, she gave up all that she knew. Kordon Jefe is a Zion Warrior and the commanding officer in charge of the Confederation of Planets' military. When an unknown species begins attacking some of their outer settlements, he is assigned to discover who they are and stop them - at any cost. Gracie finds herself stranded millions of light years and hundreds of years in the future in a distant galaxy on an undeveloped moon. When an old enemy threatens once more, she does not hesitate to use her knowledge to try to stop them once again. Only this time, it is not just Earth she will be saving, but the Confederation itself. When their two worlds are thrown together, Kordon is unsure what to do with the strange, delicate creature who fights and behaves unlike anyone he has ever encountered before. One thing he does know - he plans to keep her.

Fun, sad, strength, determination, protective

Gracie Jones was a child when it all began for her. Her world changed and she was determined to make another change. This change for the better. She young, but experienced with coding and languages. These things helped her to make some significant changes for the good of her world.Gracie was strong, determined, a voice in the dark, and special. The was something about her sweet, strong voice that lured one male to seek her out. She because the salvation of a new world after losing her own.

Kordon was the commanding admiral sent to investigate an issue in a outlying sector. He finds that a voice in the dark may hold the answer to questions that he have about the destruction and kidnapping of women from those regions.

There was a chemistry between the two that you could not deny. His determination to claim the small human with the alluring voice. Her need to find something for herself and this time live life. S.E. Smith gave me yet another series to get invested in.

David Brenin did the job that I have come to expect from him. He delivers a fully encompassing narration with diction, feeling, and more. You can easily determine who is speaking. The subtle and varying accents were smooth, clear, and intriguing.

Love It!

I absolutely love this book, in fact I've read/listened to it four times. The characters are so magnificent, I feel in awe of Gracie and am soo jealous of her at having Kordon. He's an amazing hero! I actually think most of her characters are great, they have a strong sense of loyalty. S.E. Smith builds such wonderful worlds I get totally sucked into them. They feel so real. David Brenin does such an amazing job with the narration too! I've come to expect him as the narrator in most of S.E. Smith's books, he has a cadence that's perfect and his accents and different voices are just astonishing!!

Strong Heroine, but she could have been bigger

Everything was great. I chose this because of a trusted Goodreads friend's review.

None of the space stuff was even close to being meticulous world-building, but it worked!

My only wish is for a heroine who saves the Earth and is so techy-smart, who gets her big handsome hefty other-species' warrior (the smutty details in the mating scene were a kind of a treat as well) was a heroine who wasn't all "small, blond, and delicate" because those repeated details were annoying. She could have been the over-average human height of 5'9 or more with an athletic build and dark in coloring; just saying. Maybe that'll come with one of the heroines in this series, for two secondary characters got a HEA as well, with the male being from the same species as the hero and the female being a hybrid of a cat-like species and a human, so she was covered lightly with hair and she had different skin color, so there's hope).
