Publisher's summary

Jonas Quarrel was lean, sexy, and equally capable of quoting Renaissance poetry or wielding a dagger. Verity Ames knew Jonas was the perfect partner for an affair - and that he was not the marrying kind. Before long he would be looking for new excitement, leaving Verity behind to run her gourmet restaurant in a California resort, hold on to misty colored memories, and wonder what she was going to do if she were pregnant with his child. Sure enough, her adventuring lover was soon off to an Italian villa rebuilt on a Pacific Northwest island.

Jonas went to hunt for missing Renaissance jewels. Verity went along to snare a husband. A big, soft, four-poster bed might be the ideal place to try out her lures! But in this ancient mansion of hidden passageways and mysterious perils, there were some deadly traps for those blinded by love...unless Verity could help Jonas discover the most precious treasure a woman and man can find.

Gift of Gold Sequel

I read all of the reviews prior to listening to this story. In fact, I delayed listening to it for many months. However, because I listened to The Gift of Gold, I wanted to know the ending. This was a fabulous sequel. The reviews are correct; it’s not a stand alone book so if you can’t read or listen to the Gift of Gold, don’t waste your time. Wendy Petersen is a horrible narrator but since I wanted to know the ending, I bore it. Another female narrator who really brings the characters to life would make a great set of books to listen to. I don’t David Colacci is the right choice because the books is primarily from the female point of view. However, Ms. Krentz, it would be wonderful if you could pair a female narrator with David Colacci. I’m sure they would bring this book to life. I’ve read and listened to Jayne Ann Krentz and all of her other names. I love her writing!

Very entertaining

I enjoyed this book. I like books with paranormal points. But I wish you would add the first of. The series "Gift of Gold". Where Jonas meets hrs little tyrant. I feel like I missed a lot by missing their first meeting

My favorite.

This was the very first book of hers I read and I have gone back to it over and over never tiring of the story.

Excellent but missing something

I started reading Gifts of Fire and quicky came to enjoy the characters. However, I felt like I was missing something. That this was the second part of their story. I actually thought maybe they were supporting characters in another of Krentz's books. I researched the issue and realized this was actually their second book. They were the lead characters in Gift of Gold. However, this book is not available in Audible's library. Really feel cheated. Hope to find it at a regular bookstore so I will know the whole story.

This story could stand alone if it had to but I really feel it would be a better story of you read Gift of Gold first.

alright but not Jayne's best

The narration was somewhat flat compared to the Ghost hunter series. The story was ok but I felt a little lost like the story had been rewritten to be shorter or it was an edited version and they cut out some important info. The story was fine but not really up to this authors normal.

Storyline is okay but really dislike the hero.

Would you ever listen to anything by Jayne Ann Krentz again?

Yes. I have been happy with her other books.

Any additional comments?

I really dislike the hero in this story. If his character were a real person his actions and reactions would be red flags for a possible abusive and obsessively controlling person. For example, as soon as the heroine disagrees with him he flies into a rage. He also frequently talks about her as a possession.

terrible, do not waste your money!

I only made it to the 3rd chapter and the narrator was getting on my nerves so I stopped the story and will not return to it at all.
Would not give it even 1 star but could not due to the way the system works.

Disappointing

I usually love paranormal books and I enjoy Jayne Anne Krentz as well as her books under Jayne Castle and Amanda Quick. This one, however, has got to be her worst. The hero is a bit of a blowhard chauvinist and is really unappealing. It's a fun plot, but I found the heroine annoying and the hero a jerk, so I just can't recommend it. I suggest trying one of her Arcane Society books instead.
