Publisher's Summary

She was his beginning, his life, and his end. And she did not know it yet.

Daniel is the orphaned son of a Powhatan warrior, born in 17th century Jamestown. When he is injured in the Battle of Bloody Run and left for dead, he wakes in the care of a young woman named Emmy. As she nurses him back to health, he soon realizes that she is from another time - and that she is the Time Walker his enemies have been searching for.

Emmy is a reluctant Time Walker, sent to 1656 Virginia on her mother's dying command. She prepares for her journey to the past as much as any modern woman could, but soon she realizes that the ancient blood running through her veins makes her a target for danger no matter what time she is in. Daniel is a complication she did not expect - a man who is tangled in her heart and her history in a way that can never be undone.

In a time when settlers flooded the New World under the rule of English Kings and the First People fought to keep their way of life, an alliance between Daniel and Emmy is not easily achieved. Yet as their lives are irrevocably entwined by fate and circumstance, they realize they must trust each other if they hope to survive what the history books have already written.

wish it were as good as I thought it would be

the story line isn't as good and as detailed as it could be. more historical data would make it more interesting.

Ghost Dance

Any additional comments?

I love time-travel stories. No matter where or what time period. This was an entertaining, interesting and enjoyable listen overall. The story was good, it had the potential to be really good but fell a bit short. It could of also used a little more explanation on the background of the family and the time-traveling aspect.

Romance, time-travel, suspense, a bit of action and a foretold destiny.

Evidently the author has a series of time-travel books some that take place around the same time period as this story early to mid 1600's . As well as another set of stories that are set farther back in time in the 1400's. I'm guessing throughout these series there has been more of an explanation regarding the details of the time-travel and how it is passed down to certain family's. Both of these series sound interesting.

References are made to their mother's past and her time period which sounds like it would be a really good story.

Having a book that tells the events of ones life is an intriguing concept. Would you read it if given the chance? To know the major events of your life before they happen and the time of your death. If you knew would you try and change it.

Emmy and Connor are descendants of an ancient bloodline. They have prepared most of their lives for the time when they will need to travel back in time. They need to go back in time and fix a mistake their mother made. When the time arrives unexpectedly they are as prepared as they can be while at the same time not prepared at all for the situations they encounter.

Emmy comes across a wounded Daniel. She tends his wounds and cares for him. Their meeting was not by chance. It was foretold in the book. Emmy and Daniel were destined for each other. It was unexpected for Emmy but Daniel had read the book and knew. He just doesn't realize at first it is Emmy the book refers too.

There are a couple of unanswered questions. They had to go back and fix a mistake their mother made. Why didn't she travel back and fix it herself? Are all the books the same? Do they all have the same information? So what exactly was the mistake? What event were they there to correct? The story ends in a bit of a cliffhanger since these questions are not answered.

This is the first time I have heard Kay L. Dees narrate a book. Overall she did a good job. Pleasant voice. Of coarse her character voice for Emmy was good. There needs to be a bit more difference between her male and female character voices. They all sound the same basically. There are times she needs to put a little more oomph into her narration. There is a massacre happening in the opening scene, there should be more of a sense of urgency in the narration to reflect the horror of what is going on. Her narration overall was enjoyable.

Background noise in the recording. Kind of a crackling. Maybe the narrator swallowing. Not sure. It is distracting at times though.

Enjoyable read.

Interesting plot, well executed. I love history and time travel books, so this was a winner for me on both counts. Recommend for fans of either category!

Fairly good story, but beware CLIFFHANGER ENDING

Do you think Ghost Dance needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

There must be a follow up or else book one was for naught. I felt like this book was a lead up to something that never happened. I enjoy the time travel genre usually but I was hoping for more than I received from this book. I am fine with character driven books but like a bit more than that. I guess the Outlander series has just made it harder for others in the genre to pass muster. Different narration may help this book as well. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Ok story but it could have been much better

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The whole book was working up to their destination but then it just ended, so I feel like I listened to the whole book for nothing. I understand it being part of a series and wanting the reader to buy the next book to find out what happens but this had such an abrupt ending that it felt empty.

Would you recommend Ghost Dance to your friends? Why or why not?

I wouldn't because I felt like it all led up to nothing

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration was ok.

Do you think Ghost Dance needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes, it really leaves you hanging. Like I said it all led up to where they were supposed to go but once they got there it just ended. It was like driving somewhere you are excited to get to and not getting out of the car.

Potential to be an Awesome Listening Experience

What did you like best about Ghost Dance? What did you like least?

I really liked the story. I enjoy both time travel and romance genres. Together, they make for a fun and riveting adventure. E B Brown creates an intriguing storyline with time travel and hints at how we can change things by our actions (Emi and Connor's mother). I liked what was developing between the two main characters (don't want to spoil anything). I want more and will investigate more of E B Brown's titles for this series.

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy Ms. Dees narration.

What other book might you compare Ghost Dance to and why?

I am a Sara Donati (Into the Wilderness) fan. The native americans and English fighting to find their place on 'American' soil. Throw in time travel.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

No. Something was definitely off with this narration. Mostly a flat read without expression or change of rhythm (non-dialog parts). But then the dialog was off too. The narrator became loud, when it wasn't necessary. I've only ever heard a narrator say 'harumpf' in a children's narration. The mouth noise was very distracting from beginning to end and at one point, the narrator became hoarse and still continued on. Honestly, I could not wait to get to the end (Overall 3.5 stars). While I really enjoyed the storyline (overall 5 stars), I was very disappointed with the narration (overall 3 stars).

Do you think Ghost Dance needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Absolutely. I can't imagine anyone would be satisfied with just reading E B Brown's Ghost Dance and not be intrigued for more. I will read the rest of the series. If Brown goes with another narrator, I might give it another shot at listening.

Different

Ah the book was a bit different. Time travel yet also with a twist. The whole book is leading you in a journey to correct a mistake made. Yet you reach the end of the book not knowing what mistake was nor how it was she fixes it?? So your left hanging I'm guessing to buy the next book?? Don't care for the way it just kinda dumps that on you with the sudden ending. But that's one reason I gave it a lower rating. I would not have minded so much if she had solved the mystery and we had been lead to solve another from there but gee really? Still not a bad read I'm just crazy enough to want both a happy ending and the burning question from chapter 1 to be answered. Why did she have to go back in time to fix her mothers mistakes?? I received this book at no charge in exchange for an honest review.
