Donate body to science. Check.

When 17-year-old Kaitlyn checked the box, she never suspected she'd have her life - and her body - stolen from her. She awakens one day in a secret laboratory to discover that her body is now half robot and is forced to hide her own secret: that she still has human emotions and a human mind. If the scientists who made her find out, they'll erase what remains of who she was.

Kaitlyn finds an unlikely ally in Lucas, a handsome, brilliant scientist who can't get over the guilt he feels knowing she was once a vibrant, beautiful young woman. He never expected a science project to affect him the way she does. As he tries to help her rediscover her past, he finds himself falling for the brave girl struggling to find her place and acceptance between the human and computer worlds.

Trigger warning, just not worth it

This book is just ok to somewhat troublesome. You know the "still a better love story than Twilight" joke? does not apply. Twilight is better. The premise sounds cool, and there is nothing wrong with the performance, though there's nothing exciting about the performance either. Kaitlyn would have died but instead has been turned into a cyborg super soldier by some shady top secret scientist types. She is convinced if they knew she still has emotions they would lobotomize her so she spends months acting like a robot. She and one of the scientists fall in love, etc. While ok in concept, the amount of time the scientist spends drooling over her long shapely legs before he knows she still has emotions is troublesome. He acts unilaterally supposedly in her best interest but all he really does is deny her agency and try to preserve his job. Kaitlyn will get mad at him but then within minutes be like "well we only have a little bit of time together so I'll forgive your attempts to lobotomize me because you 'rev me up': *shudder* The writing style was overly dramatic and cringey. Also, there were a lot of rapists in this story. There is one rape scene and several other scenes of predatory behavior/ attempted raping (and in one when she stands up for herself she is told she over reacted and needs more training in how to deal with society). The reviews of the second book all seem to be "dear God so much rape" so I don't intend to read the next and am planning to return this book once I've finished this review. I know this book is fairly cheap, but it still isn't worth it.

Unique and beautiful story

I didn’t think that I enjoyed fantasy or romance. Clearly I was wrong because I loved this book. The story is unique, scary, sweet and so interesting! It keeps you on the edge of your seat to find out what will happen next. Eva Kaminsky is a fantastic narrator. I loved the voices she chose for the characters. She made me be able to picture them and truly get a sense of their personality. Great job to both author and narrator!

Romance Novel

Too much Romance....too little plot, character, sci-fi. Could not finish it... Buyer Beware. Not my genre.

I enjoyed it very much! A fun "read"!

It is definitely young adult fiction… I love the simplicity and innocence of the main character even though she's quite complicated. I was very entertained and never upset, which is my goal for stories. A mini vacation!

The narrator was very good, which makes a HUGE difference for me! I have avoided some very good audiobooks because the narrator sucked, I mean was less than satisfactory.

I will tell you that if you're looking for something a little dark, gritty and mature, this is not for you.

Boring as heck

I'm at least five chapters in and NOTHING HAS HAPPENED I get that she's not allowed to do anything ,but I don't really want to hear endless internal dialogue about HOW HOT THE NEW ROBOT GIRL IS and how attracted the new robot is to THE HOT DUDE that takes care of her . I have better things to do with my time .

A good concept, written like a romance novel

I enjoyed listening to the program and the narrator did fine. The only thing I thought was a bit strange was that this obviously Sci Fi story had these weird smut style comments laced through it. There were random thought processes like, "Oh, I can't look at their lips for too long without imagining them trailing down my body." Unrealistic and sexually clichéd things like that took away from the story instead of adding to it.

Great Listen

Compelling story that winds around the ethics of cybernetics and humanity, without feeling bogged down with drama. The characters are interesting, and the narration is fantastic. This is an easy and quick listen.

• is, "in my humble opinion" given author: Julia Crane an... 8.0 + for story, very + (+ pos./ - neg.)
Kid 14+ and Family+ friendly!
Excellent book very fascinating Sci fi fantasy,  some explicit words, no count but not many. Story does [Contains sensitive content] have the explicit words this one hardly has any if any. some descriptions of scenes semi graphic, contains a couple descriptions of rape scenes. Character's were fleshed out wonderfully,  giving the minds eye 20/20 vision or better.

Narration is by: Eva Kaminsky - I give her a perfect 10.0+ very well done.
100% understandable, because of the voice accent was not noticed and English was spoken well,  no foreign language or undertones.
Narration speed adjustments not needed / necessarily.
*Some audiobooks 1.4x speed seems just right.
Story formula was great. She carried the entire book, no music, background music or sound effects.
Character's were fleshed out wonderfully,  giving the minds eye 20/20 vision or better as well. No comedic sense if any, exemplary narrators storytelling.
I hope this is helpful

Interesting concept

This is an interesting story of a girl who dies, leaving her body to medical science and is turned into a cyborg that is trained to be the ultimate soldier. Hiding that she still has feelings and desperately trying to cling to, and understand what emotions she has left, we follow Kate as she tries regain her humanity and freedom. The narrator did an excellent job of making us feel her loneliness, confusion, determination and sadness, while at the same time giving a somewhat robotic feel to the character. She give individual voices to all the characters and brought the story to life. I enjoyed this audiobook, even though there were some holes in the plot, and I was creeped out a bit by Lucas lusting after Kate before he even knew she had any feelings.

Science Project

This wasn’t what I thought it would be from the blurb but it was an interesting book. I liked Katilyn and Lucas and their situation sure seemed hopeless. The narration was decent and the world building was as well. I would listen to more from the series.
