Publisher's summary

The war between good and evil has raged for millennia, but now evil is winning, and the Marked Souls are caught in the middle.

Liam Niall never wanted to be a leader, but after surviving the horrors of the Irish potato famine, he found himself possessed by a demon in search of redemption. Now, he heads the Chicago talyan in their fight against evil, though he grows weary and plagued by self-doubt.

Then he meets Jilly Chan. She's a mentor to local homeless youth and waging a one-woman war against the drug-dealing slime that preys upon her charges. She's already half-taken by a demon, so Liam reluctantly tries to guide her into full power. Even as the proudly independent Jilly struggles to remain true to her own soul, Liam's fiercely passionate touch soon leaves a mark of desire on her flesh as enduring as her new demon tattoo.

On the fence..

I've listened to both books by Jessa Slade and would recommend them if you're willing to listen intently. I recently listened to these for a second time and guess after a year of listening to Showalter, Moning and Feehan books, these just don't compare. They aren't horrible and I don't regret the purchases. I think my biggest problem is the narrators incorrect inflection and speed throughout the books.

Repeat

I have to double check when I was reading or listening to the book because it sounded almost like the same book except for a different background it appeared to be a repeat of the same one just not sure how to explain it but both of the new characters seem to have the same personality as the old one and spoiler somebody had to die just like the first one
I usually finish a series whether it’s good or bad but I think this time I’ll pass on it

Story is still too long and a little confusing...

Going into Book 2 of the Marked Series, I know the terms now and some of the characters, but even still at times I zoned out. The battles felt a little monotonous and the back and forth between Gilly and Liam was annoying. I liked her character for the most part, although if a guy keeps saying he isn't interested or wants to keep it professional, I would seek out other companionship. Even if Liam was a complete mindf#%k with his...I can't be with you...then...SEX AGAIN! Anyway, I take it from other reviews that all the books are like this with the whole, not really a relationship, just sex and then a profession of love at the very end of the book cause that makes total sense... Sera, as a female who had walked this path before Gilly was at times helpful and at times, someone you just wanted to smack. The "big bad" has made another appearance along with new demons, but we as readers still don't have the big picture. Echo is still a grade A jerk and RANDOM but the heroine of this story who has this big heart and love for her street kids, never actually went to help them when they called for help at the end of the book...

Very good story!

Very excited about this story! It is well written and I’m excited to get on with the rest of the series! And the narrator is very good as well!

Character Voices

Why not change Jilly's voice instead of Cera's. It just seems like that would have madw more sense than giving her a different voice than she had from the first book.

Good story but bad voice and anger characters

The voice for the male character sounds like an old man. The female hero was constantly angry. The writing kept me listening hoping some good was going to happen. But I don’t like negative characters complaining.

Not worth the credit

Not sure if it's the writing or the narrator. I thought I mistakingly purchased a childrens book again. Could not follow along at all!
