Publisher's summary

Florida private investigator Ric Alvarado's life is spiraling out of control. His beautiful new assistant, Annie Dugan, is far more interested in fieldwork than filing, and despite Ric's best efforts to ignore the attraction, sparks are flying between them. Then one of Ric's clients turns femme fatale and tries to gun down an innocent man. Thanks to quick thinking and even quicker reflexes, Ric comes to the rescue, only to learn he's done a very good deed for some very bad people.

Suddenly Ric finds himself deep undercover with Annie, working for notorious crime boss Gordon Burns. One mistake from Ric's painfully inexperienced partner could leave them both dead.

FBI agent Jules Cassidy's life isn't in much better shape. For years, the FBI has been trying to prove Gordon Burns' ties to terrorist activity. Now, thanks to Ric and Annie, Jules has found a way into the lion's den. But in the course of his investigation he comes face-to-face with Robin Chadwick, the charismatic but self-destructive and closeted movie star for whom Jules feels a powerful attraction. Robin is in town promoting his latest film - and Gordon Burns is a star-struck movie buff. With Robin and Jules' help, Ric and Annie are soon entrenched in Burns's organization, surrounded by killers who may already have executed an FBI infiltrator. Before long the couple realizes that many more lives besides their own will be at stake if they make a false move. As the heat between them reaches dangerous levels, so do the risks they're willing to take - in the line of duty, for the sake of loyalty, and in the name of something that runs even deeper.

Another Winner in Troubleshooters Series

Great blend of Romance & Suspense. Ric Alvarado from earlier book & his Annie start their adult relationship. Jules & Robin finally work through their issues to become a couple. Serious suspense & action abound. Narration works for series, but could be a little better differentiation between male & female "voices". Worth buying: I had paper books, then ebooks, now I've collected audiobooks of this series.

Loved it!!!

My son is gay and married to a Sergeant for the Nashville Police Dept. it’s not what my late husband and I expected, and with the exception of being disappointed that I have no grandchildren (yes, I know there are ways but ultimately it’s their decision), I’ve unequivocally love and support them as my husband did before he died. This book so mirrored their struggle and finally their decision to live their lives on their own terms. I am a huge fan of Suzanne Brockmann, and her story and the way the performers enacted it in their reading was outstanding. I love to read bit with a job in which I have to drive a lot, there’s nothing better than to listen to one of her Troubleshooters novels. Even when it’s one I read before, the characters are funny and sound so sincere I find myself laughing and crying. I’m not a big writer of reviews, but I had to for this book. In a world where tolerance is taking a back seat to democracy, freedom of expression and the right for all Americans to seek love and happiness in all its various forms, a novel like this reminds us why we have a Constitution and are still considered a global leader in freedom. I only pray we all remember this and treat each other accordingly. Great job as always Ms. Brockmann, Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Eubank. You guys made my day!

Force of nature

This story is the least likely to be believable of the series but still entertaining.

Force of Nature

This story involves two sets of main characters. Suzanne Brockmann does an excellent job of bridging the characters. The narrators are fabulous and it was fun to listen to it being read.

not the usual crew

A cameo from Sam, a little Max and lots of wonderful Jules (and Robin-meh). But the main story is 2 non-operatives in Fla with almost no SEAL- type excitement. It's OK, but I really missed the Cali crew.

Horrible narrators

I couldn’t even get started with this one. I think this would be a great book if there were different narrators. Maybe I’ll get this one to read, rather than listen to.

Annoying ...

I gave up five hours in. Irritating. Annoying. Junior high characters. There’s not too many books I’ve failed to finish ... this is one.
