Publisher's summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of the Night Huntress series comes a breathtaking new journey to the dark side of desire.

The night is not safe for mortals. Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows - her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield - and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family’s past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness - and a demon shape-shifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who lusts for a taste of her.

He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human - even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the nightmare together, because once the first crimson drop falls, they will both be lost.

First Drop of Crimson

Jeaniene Frost is a legend - I am addicted to her books and characters. Spade & Denise are fantastic & the fact that Bones & Cat are in the book makes it even more enjoyable. Keep them coming.. PS Audible there must be more than 2 of this authors books out there as Bones & Cat's relationship has moved forward. Get them to audio books asap

A good book

The beginning started slow but it picked up after a few minutes of listening. The narrator was consistent with the characters all through out. You have to listen to this book if you like this genre.

Demons and Vampires and a Country or Two!

Being new to the world Jeaniene Frost has created, I was unsure what to expect here. I generally listen to books I have already read, but this time took a different course. I read the first Cat & Bones book, and thought this might be interesting.

Oh, Denise and Spade are VERY interesting! Denise is a human still grieving for the loss of her husband at the hands of some supernatural creature. When she comes up against a creature even bigger and badder, she turns to the only person she knows who can help.

Spade is a vampire, best friends with Bones. Less than thrilled to have to run to Denise's aid, he only wants to fix the issue, keeping Cat & Bones out of it, and get rid of the human woman. Until he gets to know her.

Unlike some romance authors, Frost really focuses on the story and doesn't make it all about the sex. She definitely knows how to create a compelling tale and help the reader suspend disbelief. I cannot wait to get to the next book in the series!

The book is narrated by Tavia Gilbert. Narrators are always tricky, and she does a great job. The only voice that didn't capture me was Bones' "Cockney" accent, but Spade's British nobility accent and Denise's southern voice are done well. She adds to the story (where some narrators detract from it).

Definitely worth 5 stars!

So Much Fun!

I love the entire series. They are written well and are very entertaining. I do not generally read "vampire" books, but these are the exception.

Excellent Spinoff

We've met these characters in the Cat & Bones Night Huntress series but reading that those books aren't strictly necessary (still, why wouldn't you?). The book stands alone and fills in character development that was only hinted at in other books. Tavia Gilbert is excellent as always.

Story better as an audiobook

If you could sum up First Drop of Crimson in three words, what would they be?

kiss her already

Who was your favorite character and why?

Denise who has been through a lot but keeps on trucking

What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She very good with both male and female voices. I love narrators that make me forget what sex they are.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it seems that the secondary books to Cat's and Bones series are a little longer then they need to be. They seem to have a lot of extra detail that doesn't add anything to the plot.

Favorite, so far

So, I’ve listened to Bones and Kat’s books, Ian and Varitas’s books. This one is my favorite, so far. I love Spade and Denise. They’re my favorite couple of this world. Can’t wait to read about Mancares and Kira.
(Please excuse the misspelling of names if I didn’t get them correct... lol)

Mediocre plot, but likeable characters

This isn't the most exciting book, and it takes a while to get a hang on the mythology, but it was a decent read.

another great story

Any additional comments?

All of the books by Jeaniene Frost are amazing, especially those with Kat and Bones and their friends. I am in my second rotation of reading these and they are just as good this time as they were the first time. I really do like Tavia Gilbert as the narrarator too -- she brings the characters to life!
