Publisher's Summary

Inside burning buildings, Captain Caleb Holt lives by the firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner. Yet at home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules. Growing up, his wife Catherine always dreamed of marrying a loving, brave firefighter... just like her father.

Now, after seven years of marriage, she wonders when she stopped being "good enough." Countless arguments and anger have them wanting to move on to something with more sparks. As they prepare for divorce, Caleb's father challenges him to commit to a 40-day experiment: "The Love Dare." Wondering if it's even worth the effort, Caleb agrees, for his father's sake more than for his marriage. Surprised by what he discovers about the meaning of love, Caleb realizes that his wife and marriage are worth fighting for. His job is to rescue others. Now Captain Holt is ready to face his toughest job ever... rescuing his wife's heart.

Based on the screenplay by Alex and Stephen Kendrick, this audio version of the Fireproof novel includes subplots, characters, and back story not included in the movie.

What did you love best about Fireproof?

To me, this was much better than the movie. It wasn't as "in your face" with the religion, and that was a good thing. This didn't feel like a bible lesson.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fireproof?

For me it was when Caleb confronted the Doctor. No need for violence, just go and tell him that if it's a competition he wants, then it's a competition he's got.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When she was at the store and realized who the real hero was.

fireproof

I haven't seen the movie yet, but i loved this book and the lessons it taught. Even if you aren't a christian, this book still has meaning. I feel like lots of people could learn valuable lessons from this story. Read it! It's really good! I also enjoyed the narator. He did a good job.

Understandable Communication

I truly enjoyed this book and as usual the movie didn't completely do the book justice. It was much more detailed. I didn't struggle at a point or two with finishing. Near the last 4-5 chapters, I felt like I couldn't stop. My younger sister suggested this book to help me build better communications in my current relationship. I've learned so much more! I'm going to recommend this to almost all of the married couples that I know and those planning marriage.

Excellent message, awful writing

Almost insulting writing here. I love the message of a marriage coming back from the brink, but this authors writing is absolutely atrocious. The narrator is one of the worst I've ever heard, even worse than many Librivox homemade recordings. I actually wouldn't recommend this to anyone, not because it's not a good story, but for fear that the good story will get tainted by the horrific execution.

So, so disappointed.

Go with the abridged version

Excellent story and not to be listened to only one time. Paired with the Love Dare journal, it's an incredible resource in making a marriage work. But, you'll probably be better off going with the abridged version as the unabridged version has a lot of filler material that's not always germane to the story. But still a great story!
