Publisher's summary

Megan Kimble was traveling a long way to find the next chapter in her life, one that would not include her brother, Matt. Losing him now was tragic, even more so since she had finally freed herself from the abuse and the shame of a bad marriage. She had spent years hiding things from Matt, so he wouldn't know about her horrible life. Keeping her secret world of bruises, cuts, and broken bones, much like the one she now sported with a large white cast.

Dealing with her loss was hard, but, now she was thinking of taking over Matt's new business venture. This could be the fresh start she needed, a new town, a new place to forget the pain and maybe she could learn to trust again.

Todd Jordan was a successful businessman, who had once lost it all, and now he had just lost his best friend and business partner. But, then she came into town broken and scared, and for the first time in a long time he was looking forward to his future. Breaking down Megan's barriers would take patience and strength, and he would need that strength to keep what he loves safe.

I really enjoyed the story line a wonderful listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes it was an outstanding listen with a great plot what held my interest. The author wrote about some very serious day to day issues which I felt she handled wonderfully.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Megan even through all she dealt with she came out strong and standing when others would have given up. I really love the whole Jordan family, they are a family who stood by each other. They knew what the word family means.

Which scene was your favorite?

LOL I would have to say when Megan's ex got what he deserved. I do have to say there were a few others, when Megan and Todd met, when Todd's sister could stop people in their thoughts and make them move on rather fast.

Any additional comments?

I felt this was a very touching read about some serious issues. The author gives you normal people dealing with normal day to day issues. Abuse is never an easy topic to talk about I did feel the author gave it justices. I felt really bad for Megan not getting to tell her brother goodbye nor being able to live the wonderful life with him that he gave her.

With this wonderful plot that the author gives you and the narrator bring it to life you could feel the pain of each character. I have to be honest when I first started listening to this book I didn't care to much for Tanya Eby but within the first few pages I came to really enjoy her voice. I loved her Boston accent along with the others she did a lovely job.She pulled me right in and I didn't want to put it down. For me this was a wonderful outstanding listen that I really enjoyed. A lot of that was due to the narrator.

While listening to this story you got to know more of what Megan dealt with. I felt I came to know her better through the audio than I would have reading the book. Megan was a very sweetheart that thought she had picked a wonderful man. Having to deal with her issues myself I knew just how she felt. It is never easy when you have a wonderful loving man and on your wedding night he changes right before your eyes. I would never have thought this was possible had I not seen it through my own eyes with friends and family. I found this story to be very believable with today life issues. It was a pleasure to see Megan take her life back I do wish more women could be like her.

Todd he was such a wonderful man that any women would be proud to call hers. I loved his protective side and how he took care of Megan. I loved that he knew when to give space and when to stand firm. He might be an alpha male but he wasn't over the top alpha. He was just a wonderful all round sweetheart of a hunk of man.

The author gives you wonderful supporting characters which will keep you smiling. She throws in a little humor and gives you a wonderful small town that you wish you could be part of. There really wasn't anything I didn't like in this story. In fact I enjoyed it so much that I bought a few other of the audio's in this series. I can't wait to find out what all the author has in store for me as she brings this wonderful town to light.

Ehhh

Pretty predictable from the start. But if you’re looking for a really quick read with a lifetime movie plot - this is the book for you!

Finding Oneself

Any additional comments?

Meg comes to Pride to mourn the loss of her brother. She quickly finds out that small towns are very welcoming to new comers. She meets the Jordan family who were Matt's closest friends. Todd Jordan is enamored by Meg and he realizes that her relationship with her ex-husband was abusive, so he knows that he needs to take it slow with her. They begin a friendship which then turns in to a wonderful romance. There are ups and downs for the characters, but it was a great story.
I'm sad to say though, that I did not like the narrator. I did not like the way she did the males voices. It made them sound like they were old men. She also seemed to rush through the story with quick reading.

Narration is not enjoyable

The narrator's performance is not enjoyable - I'm sure the book could have been slightly better with better narration

Sweet storyline

The storyline was very sweet. Unfortunately, some parts I needed to go back and listen to again because I had missed what was happening. I was too focused on the horrific Boston accent to pay attention to the words. As a New Englander, I would have preferred if the narrator hadn’t even tried the accent. It would have made listening much more enjoyable.

Feminist grade: C+

Overall, it was a nice story. My biggest issues lie more with the pacing. It was way too fast and the guy, at least to me, seemed too pushy and quite thoughtless. He would say that he would take it slow but then rush like a madman. I do not see him as a feminist lead-more like a lead from the 80's. Also-no talk of consent. I mean at least an "Are you sure?".

Narrator awful voice

I love the story line. But the author really can't do make voices. They should have had a male read along with her. Be aware it's hard to listen to. but it's a good story. I feel bad for leaving that review. I personally don't like the narrators voice.

So sweet

What a sweet and at times sad story. I listened to later books in this series and lived going back to listen to the beginning of the series to the couples that were already together in later books. Excellent author and narrator!

Good Start

Overall opinion: 3.5

Not a bad start to the series. Girl comes to town for her brother's funeral and ends up taking over his business. She has had a rough road and is wary of men for a good reason. Will she find love or stay closed off?
