Publisher's summary

On paper, it's pretend. But my heart knows what's real.

His proposal came in a little black envelope with 13 unlucky words: You still owe me that favor, doll, and I'm cashing in. Marry me.

In a normal life, I'd never get hitched to Calvin Randolph. Not with his heart-stopping blue eyes, infamous player reputation, and an ego bigger than the part of his anatomy he loves boasting about the most.

Been there, done that. All except the last part, which he's left to my shameful imagination for seven years apart.

Of course, the fake fiancée contract I just signed is anything but normal. Neither was the tragic day our schoolyard romance died, when he made an unspeakable sacrifice.

He saved my life. He paid a terrible price. Now, I owe him big.

He's come to collect in make believe: the blushing lies, the sideways glances leaving me breathless, the teasing kisses every time his teeth grab my bottom lip in front of the world.

It shouldn't be this hard.

It's just pretend. It's just a few weeks. I can totally resist the demanding, cold, obscenely handsome man he's become.

We have our rules. But the simple one I kept to myself might be harder: don't fall in love.

I already did that once. I know the risks. I won't let it happen.

Because if his charm steals my heart again, if I let him go all the way when his lips trace scary promises on mine, this paper engagement becomes real enough to ruin us....

Alpha male heat advisory, emotional powder keg, and hard won happily ever after inside! This is a stand-alone full length novel with no cliff-hangers. Discover the fire and mystery Wall Street Journal best-selling author Nicole Snow brings to romance!

Ok

Not my favorite story. I didn’t hate it nor did I love it. It was just ok for me. I felt like this story was all over the place.
As far as the narration, I had to speed it up because it was read so slowly.

Narrator a bit weak

First off I must apologize for being so frank. I really hate judging a book Mainly because I have never been an author or a narrator for that fact. So I don’t know the actual work that goes into it. The story was sooo good but I did feel that Ms. McClendon was not do much for the story.

Narration ruined it for me

The book was OK. The narration was very difficult to get through. I’m one of those people that once I start I can’t stop listening though. I ended up putting a higher speed on the playback so that I could get through it faster.

ran on a little long

honestly when I felt like the story should have ended happily it just added a little bit more drama that was utter nonsense and it made me just want the book to be over

Crazy How Adding Narration To A Story Gives You

A different perspective! I love that; I love how it has me considering various possibilities.
Having read Fiance On Paper before, and enjoyed the unique, dark and heat filled take on an IMO overly written storyline, this way I felt more frustration towards the characters. Especially Maddie
For someone who was supposed to be grateful for all that Cal had " done " for her, she was very judgemental, and like to remind him of his past, while telling him it was okay to let it go AH? While I felt he liked to play the self-loathing card for something, he would " do over again if meant saving her" ( hmmm ) lots of contradicting! Made me a little crazy, But also made me we want to finish the audio all the same day even more. ( yes, I know, I mentioned I have already read the book, SIGH, its an issue, no need for professional help. I like me. )
Regardless- I still love this book, to me, it feels like a naughty grit filled love story that was seven years in the making with twists and manic turns, that had my emotions all over the place and kept me wanting more.

Heroine was ungrateful

**this review has spoilers**
Loved the guy! He was her hero and protector and she was an ungrateful brat. Ran away anytime she got mad. Ruined the story for me. So I gave it a 3 star. I just couldn’t buy that she loved him as much as he loved her when she would leave so easily. Not into one sided love stories. This one was a miss for me. Sorry. And the constant going back In time was boring. I wish they would have just explained it in the beginning then moved on. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because she was a virgin. I’m glad she at least saved herself for him for all he gave up for her.

Feels long, female narration a bit monotone

It feels long. I think it could have done without several of the flashback parts of the story. Or they could have shortened them. It wasn't necessary to have lengthy dialogue in the flashbacks. Of course they may have felt long because the female narration wasn't expressive or interesting. I found myself looking forward to when it woulf change to the male's voice. Also the way the characters spoke to each other wasn't very realistic. So it was hard to believe much of the conversation. It didn't feel like natural conversation at all. All in all it wasn't the worst audible book I've experienced, but it didn't make me look forward to listening time like I enjoy for my books to do. I did end up fast forwarding through a lot of the flashbacks and listening for only key details, which is how I know they definitely could have shortened them or excluded some of them altogether.

Performance not adequate for me

The story seemed to be okay, although I could not come close to finishing this book. I was not able to listen to this performance. The female character's voice was okay but way too slow for me. Very slow. The male's voice did not fit the character for me at all. I just could not listen to this book.

Weak story, dislike the performance

The story is weak, but could have been ok if the narration was different. I don’t like Ellie McClendon’s male voices - they haven’t fully passed puberty yet and sound immature, literally and emotionally. In this genre, an immature male voice is a total turn off, no matter the scene.

The story has potential with the story of what happened in their past (even only half knowing what that is), and even some of the present parts of the story, but there are leaps in logic that don’t make sense or can’t be believed or are just too sudden. But with all the little negatives and the narration, I’m giving up on this book a little over half way through.

I’m giving this 3 stars only because there really is worse out there, and I think that different narration could have helped save this book.
