Publisher's summary

This isn't another "I hate you because I secretly love you" story. Boy really does hate girl. And this isn't just a forbidden love story. This is obsession at its darkest.

I don't believe in fairy tales and Prince Charming.

I believe in fear.

He taught me how to be afraid.

We first met on a playground on a wonderful summer day. It was the first time he hurt me and it wouldn't be the last. For 10 years, he's been my tormentor and I've been his forbidden. But then he went away, and yet I was still afraid.

Now, he's back, and wants more than just my tears. You see...he thinks I sent him away so now he wants revenge...and he knows just how to get it.

Great bones but the heroine was annoying AF!!

Jesus!
Lake is officially the DUMBEST character I have ever had the displeasure of reading about…

It wasn’t a well written character… a few words here and there would have made a huge difference…

It had really good bones but I think I want to hear Willow’s story and even Sheldon or Dash… this may have worked from Kieran’s point of view… because Lake, for a “smart girl” acted like a 10 year old pretending to be 17 🙄

The spicy scenes were cool but I don’t think I needed to hear her inner monologues…

I’ll find Willow’s and see what happens because as great as these started the stupidity that’s Lake was a bit too much…

Burn it!! Ban it!! Never read this author again. Don’t let your daughters read this

Why would you write something like this? There is nothing nothing sexy about physical, sexual and mental abuse of a child. I don’t give a flying fck what he went through as a child. No excuse is good enough. Other reviewers called her Whiney or weak. Really? The victim of abuse is whiney! These are the same people who ask why victims of domestic abuse don’t just leave. That’s like asking why an alcoholic doesn’t just stop drinking. Why a cancer patient doesn’t just stop having cancer. Cant write anymore just too pissed-off.

Fantastic

This was my first audio book and I am so glad I chose Fear Me.

I love this book (and series) when I read them on my kindle. When I heard they were now available on audio I knew I had to experience this story this way. It blew me away. Totally loved it.

Hearing someone read this dark story was airly hypnotic. Totally hooked.

Crazy, Sexy, and Dark

I'm very conflicted over this book. I really enjoyed the beginning and Kieran, Keenan, and Dash were so crazy and interesting despite their long list of faults. Let's be their real, their all complete assholes and I loved them.

Kieran and Lake's relationship is complicated. Lake's has tormented by Kieran for like ten years. He did some real horrendous things that go beyond bullying. He terrorized her and made life a living hell. But it was clear that Lake liked Kieran anyways, she was drawn to him and he to her. Let me say holy hot damn, these two were like a raging inferno bound to get burned.

There were things I liked and didn't like. But overall I still really enjoyed the story. It was twisted and dark. There was drama, hot as hell sex, and suspense. I liked Lake's relationship with Willow and Shelton and how messed up all their relationships were. Fear Me is both addicting and frustrating in the best worse way. But I have to say Ava Erikson made this book so much more enjoyable and easier to get into than when I first picked up this book. She helped me slip into this story and get hooked. This is not to say the author's writing was good because it definitely was. When I first picked up this book, it was hard to get into it at first, but as I listened to Ava Erikson I was drawn into the story faster and easier. She does an amazing job voicing Lake and bringing this story to life. Highly recommend the audiobook especially if you're on the fence about this one.

DNF

I couldn’t. I just couldn’t. I’m also frustrated because this book came heavily recommended by an author I love and I just... wanted to throw my phone across the room and scream out my frustration. Like... high pitched, agonizing, rip my hair out screaming.

The #1 reason why?

This is a story about a weak a** FMC and a seriously abusive male lead who has no redeeming qualities.

I ended up reading reviews for the next books, actually spoiling myself, something I NEVER do, just to see if this nightmare fixes itself in book 2.

Why did I even continue to try, you ask?

Well. The writing was phenomenal. And the narration? Wow freaking wow. The narrator is up there now with Zach Webber and Tracy Marks for me. She was incredible! I really wanted to finish this.

What pissed me off too? This is being pimped as an “enemies to lovers” story. I didn’t see that. I just saw abuse. And when I read spoiler reviews for book 2...? Reviewers said nothing changed and the FMC still took the abuse. The male lead didn’t really change.

I LOVE enemies to lovers - and this was not it. At all. This was just straight up abuse. Extremely well written and well narrated abuse, but abuse.

My idea of enemies to lovers is... you fight, maybe mild abuse, and then the male character does a 180 and fixes his screw ups. My absolute preferred enemies to lovers is a strong alpha male character and a strong female character... fighting. Creating hot tension. Even getting violent with each other, that’s fine. But the female lead stands up for herself for the love of god!!!!

When the female lead just “takes it” - hell no - I can’t handle it.

Anyway. I guess my big shock was how many 5 star reviews this book has. I don’t understand how abuse is sexy. It’s not. And I’ve never been abused. So that’s not even a trigger for me.

I’m also finding more and more that I cannot tolerate dark romance.

problems with the audiobook

Around the 11th hour the book starts and stops all on it's own, kind of annoying, but the book before this mark has no problems running. The story overall is good, and the narration is just the same.

Unbelievably good!

Expert narration elevated an already excellent story to make this tale one of my favorite of all times. Young adult, Lake Monroe catches the eye of an unwieldy Keiran Masters, who wants to make her life intolerable, tormenting her over the course of 10 years. This underpinned with unbidden and to a degree unwanted attraction. If you want a total, over the top alpha male with near nuclear possessive tendencies, you have it in this antihero. With that, the steam level of this story was fire. The story was original and unfolded into a complex story I did not expect.

Ava Erickson delivered a masterful performance with range and versatility for women characters such that heroine Lake, her friends, and even mean girl enemies sounded differently; and equally, she recited the men in the story with aplomb. The interaction between the two -- Lake and Keiran came to audio life, making this voice narration one of the best I've listen to.

Rolling my eyes…

I couldn’t enjoy the good parts because I knew that soon enough another super improbable and dumb scene would rear it’s head. The MFC’s way to process situations and prioritize is so selfish and unbelievable. Like instead of being wanting to know her tormentor’s secrets or having sex on the brain… how about ask about the possibility of two students being murdered by her tormentor. I just couldn’t follow her logic or haphazard morals.

So Good! So Dark! You'll hate to LOVE it!!

The writing in this book is soooo fantastic! As my first BB Reid book, I was extremely impressed! And those sex scenes... HOLLY HOTNESS MAN! I'm surprised my iPhone didn't just burst into flames or combust! Seriously... the heat between Lake and Kieran was out of this world hot! Yes, it was also incredibly dark!

I have never in my life been so confused by a book... I disliked Kieran so much more than I think I have any other character... ever. Well, how the heck did I end up caring what happened to him? Feeling pain for him? Sympathizing with his feelings because there's no way I could understand his feelings or his actions. So how did I end up caring for a character that I wished would implode? BB Reid, that's how... she somehow created this dominating, alpha male character like I've never read before. Reid made him.... somehow... likable? Or perhaps you just feel for him? Either way, you don't just feel disgust... ok, you do feel disgust for most of the book but somewhere around 60% you realize you don't want his death to be as bloody. I don't know how she did it, but she did... that's talent!

I grew to love this whole cast and crew. They were all so likable. Lake I just completely adored and really rooted for her. I LOVE Willow. I mean, shouldn't we all be so lucky to have such a loyal friend? The secondary relationships were just as intriguing as the main characters. I'm thrilled to see that I'm going to get a book on them too. I loved everything about this book. I removed 1 star because some of the story seemed a bit too far-fatched... I know, I know... I'm annoying this is FICTION... the sky is the limit! There is no far-fetched! But... it was the lack of parental involvement for really anyone but Willow's mom. I mean, how can everyone be scared of this one high schooler? How can no parents stand up for their child? I don't know, but that was my complaint.

Also, I listened to this book on audio and holly amazing Batman! This audio performance was one of the BEST I've heard and I'm an audio addict (Seriously, I have a problem)! Ava Erickson is the narrator and I had to double check that there wasn’t some male back up thrown in... there isn't one! Woot Erickson! You pulled off voice changes super impressively! I could FEEL Lake's pain in her voice, I could feel her fear, her hurt, her outrage. She had superb voice changes for every character. I just can't get over the guy voices. I mean you could feel the contempt Kieran held for Lake... just fantastic work! Seriously impressed!

I received a discounted or free copy of this audio book with the hope that I would leave my Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my Opinions.
