Publisher's Summary

In this nerve-shattering novel from the New York Times best-selling author of Alone in the Dark, special agents Griffin Davenport and Kate Coppola are on the trail of a depraved criminal.

When Special Agent Griffin "Decker" Davenport opens his eyes after several days in a coma, there is unfinished business still on his mind. Decker is on the cusp of discovering the mastermind behind a human trafficking case, and he and his partner, Special Agent Kate Copolla, are about to get a surprising new lead from a very unlikely source.

Eighteen-year-old Mallory Martin and her little sister Macy were the victims of an illegal adoption - sold by their addict mother for drugs. But their "benefactor" is not who everyone thinks he is. Mallory has never told his secrets before - the danger to her and her sister has always been too great. But everyone has a limit to what they can endure.

A great addition to the series

This was a great listen. The narration was excellent and very fitting for the story.

I just finished Alone in the Dark (Romantic Suspense 17/Cincinnati 02) so I was acquainted with the characters in the series. Although, I guess you could read this without having the prior knowledge of the rest of the series but it's a great series and even though they bring you up-to-date I love knowing the characters and their evolved connections whether through family, work or romantic relationships really helps bring you closer to the story, like you're involved. Makes it more intricate in my opinion.

I Loved it! The story picks up a week after Alone in the Dark finishes. I really loved the series and this book was a great addition to it. They do bring you up-to-date in the series to get by as a standalone but the Romantic Suspense series is revolved around a group of characters and locations branching off into sub-series of the locations, in this case it's the Cincinnati series. So far I've read all 18 so I suggest you read them in order of the Romantic Suspense series so you don't run into spoilers. It's police procedurals - romantic suspense based around FBI & police colleagues turned very close friends and the tight circle of people evolves as the series moves on and grows.

It had me interested from start to finish. Great plot, excellent character building, interesting characters and very well written. I loved how it's written and that made me want more.

Love this book 3 especially after just having finished book 2. Narrator did an excellent job with all the characters. I hope Karen finishes this series.

Excellent entry in this series and the finest performance I've heard yet from Hillary Huber.

Karen Rose doesn't tell a story,she weaves a tale!

Which character – as performed by Hillary Huber – was your favorite?

Hillary Huber did a great job narrating. Her characters are distinguishable and her voice is pleasant.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

There are not enough hours in z day to listen to any one of her books...

Any additional comments?

This is a really good book. It is fast paced and intricately multilayered. The characters a not always who you think they are and each has their own secrets, even the good guys. This book is about human trafficking and the child porn industry. This book picks up where the last book left off, however they really don't need to be read in order. Enough background is given so that each can be read as a stand alone. The main character in this book is a respected member of the community. He uses this to get close to children with addicted parents. In all of Rose's books there is a romance going on in the background that usually ends up with an engagement at the end. I do not read/listen to her books for the romantic aspects, she writes one heck of a suspense/police procedural that will keep the reader guessing until the end. Even if you know who done it the other question is who will make it to the end because many in her books don't. This is the third book in the Cincinnati series, prior to this was the Baltimore series which has another book coming out soon. Again, if you don't like romance ignore that part or fast forward through those scenes but get the book for the main story, it's worth it.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

worth buying the Audiobook

I am working my way through all these books. The stories are amazing and the audiobooks serve me well when I suffer from migraines. The most important part though is rpthe characters are worth being brought to life in audiobooks. I smile -I get scared- love the romance. Great books. Storylines are not gentle. I am a Karen Rose fan for sure.
