Publisher's summary

In this pulse-pounding and thrillingly sensual novel, New York Times best-selling author Lara Adrian returns to the mesmerizing world of the Midnight Breed, following new characters into a dark future where an uneasy peace can unravel into war - and a great betrayal can mask an all-consuming love.

Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn - when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them - the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.

Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift - and even lethal - justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.

Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again - or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides - between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.

MIDNIGHT BREEDS THE NEXT GENERATION - WOW x 3

As an avid fan of the hunky vampire Breed Warriors I was completely shocked and blown away as I started listening to this story as BAM it's set two decades forward from the last book and we see The Order, made up of the Breeds together with their new generations of fighters, as they have to face an even deadlier enemy in a darker more hostile world. If you're expecting the 'same ol same ol' story then you'd be wrong so hold on..... because (if you download this) then you are about to be blown away by a 'can't stop - just one more chapter' listen.

Ms Adrian's gifted writing has taken the entire cast of characters and catapulted them (and us) into an exciting, thrilling, emotional and altogether more sinister world which unfolds before us and is made up of humans v vampires. We find Mira fighting but still broken hearted years after, Kellan her friend and first love's death, only to discover that things were not as they seemed. There's shock, betrayal, anger, and disbelief coupled with forgiveness, passion, sexual desire, heartbreak, sorrow, redemption and undying love but the inevitable prophecy shown in Mira's eyes must play out and the ultimate sacrifice has to be made.

All the old familiar loveable characters are there but they are joined now by their offspring and there's a glimpse of exciting new ones still to come as The Order continue to entertain and thrill us paranormal fans as together they fight for the good of the planet against unseen new deadlier evil enemies - and long may they continue to do so.

Worth a credit? Yes definitely, and the previous books are a good foundation to this new world, but this could be a stand alone start of a whole new series as we see the deadliest of vampire wars begin.

Next Gen Breeds - Blew Me Away!!!

After reading Darker After Midnight (book 10) I was completely satisfied with the "series ending" but was sad to say good-bye to the Breed. I didn't think there were anymore stories left to tell and I was happy the author decided to end it before it got old and too tired.

So when I saw Lara Adrian wrote another Midnight Breed book, I thought "what the heck, this can't be good". Boy was I wrong! Edge of Dawn and the next generation of Breed Warriors BLEW ME AWAY! This book was non-stop action from start to finish. Despite all the old familiar faces and characters we've come to love, this book had a whole new twist.

I won't give away any spoilers for the die-hard fans, but there is a huge bombshell in this book that just made my heart stop! This is how you take a great series into a whole new and exciting direction. Just brilliant!!

I can't wait until the next installment!

Better to read on your own

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

My time reading the book on my own would have been much more enjoyable.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The main characters were both warriors according to Lara Adrian's view but the narrator made them both sound like teenage twits! I have all of the other books in this series and decided to try audible for the latest installation and that was the worst decision. If you enjoy this series, either purchase as an ebook or prepare for an annoying audible version. I will never purchase an audible book narrated by Hillary Huber again.

Little disappointed in female character/narrarator

What did you like best about Edge of Dawn? What did you like least?

Hillary Huber does a good job on the male voices but her female voices come off as whiney to me. Mira's voice was grating on my nerves when she was a child in previous audio books and her voice as an adult doesn't differ from a child. She's suppose to be a bad*** warrior - but she whines. I felt like some of the narraration was sing-songy and it seemed kind of patterned. Hard to explain but I love this series and I had to push myself through some parts of this one.

I like the introduction of the new warriors and the direction the new series is going in. I was just disappointed in Kellan and Mira's story - I'd been looking forward to it. I also felt that
Kellan's story line of becoming a rebel leader and the reasons behind it to be weak and could've used more umph. Something was just lacking to me. There needs to be more meat behind Kellan's story. What the heck was he doing for the past 8 years and why didn't he just go to Lucan to begin with?! Doesn't make sense and I had trouble letting go of that question throughout the entire book. I would've like to have seen Mira be more of a warrior and Kellan to use better sense.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I'm interested enough in the series to check out the next one because I still have hopes that it will get better. I will probably read the book though instead of the audio because my issues with the audio kind of ruin it for me.

Would you be willing to try another one of Hillary Huber’s performances?

not sure. I think I'm tapped out. The cadance of her narraration seems to be predictable. She does a decent job expressing the male voices but the women really come off as weak.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

doubt it.

Not a favorite.

I love the original Midnight Breed series but not all fired up about the kids. That's just my personal taste. But for this one, Kellen is some kind of stupid. His vision would never had come true if he had NEVER left! It only came true BECAUSE he left. And Mira just gave in to that BS immediately after she heard it. I'd have been making him work a lot harder to prove himself after that stupid behavior.

Not bad.

I like the other books just a bit better, but this wasn't bad. Nice lead up to the next one.

I didn't know vampires were from the Valley

What made the experience of listening to Edge of Dawn the most enjoyable?

The story was great and an excellent bridge to continue this series.

How could the performance have been better?

I almost stopped listening several times because the narrator had some of the worst voices associated with characters! The main female sounded like she was a combination of Zooey Deschanel and an LA Valley girl. I kept waiting to hear "Oh my God, Becky, look at her butt," as the next line. The male voices sounded like she was speaking through gritted, clenched teeth with intention gruffness. All the male characters sounded the same except for the horrid Texas accent. Would never, ever buy anything by this narrator again.

Another Great one!!!

Mira and Kellan how awesome. Thank you Lara for continuing the series. I am addicted to these stories. It was also nice that she incorporated the Original Order and now we get to be a part of their kids and how they have matured have become an integral part of The Order. Hilary Huber is perfect she brings this story to life for me. If you have not heard the entire series you are short changing yourself. Happy listening I am patiently awaiting the next one.

Absolutely Wonderful!

As always, Hillary Huber delivers spot on narration, which makes an already great story a perfect listening experience. I still believe that she could refrain from mentioning the name of the character (from the extensive list of characters) she is representing and the audience would be able to tell like they were listening to an old friend on the phone. She's that good and that consistent.

The previous Midnight Breed novel provided so much closure that it seemed as though we might be at an end of the series. I expected a spinoff series might be in the works but had not thought there could be such seamless continuation, much less so with a two decade time jump. Lara Adrian just proved me oh so wrong.

This story centers on Mira, who was still a mere child in the last book and Kellan, who was still a teenager when we last met him. Mira's sweet, hopeful nature has been warped by the loss of the Breed male she would have called mate. She's now a warrior in her own right and out for vengence.

There's a new threat on the horizion (well, at least one) and a whole new generation of Breed warriors prepared to fight along side the one's we know and love. I loved it, loved it, loved it and can't wait for more!
