Publisher's summary

Dragon Prince Nikolai Vassago's day starts out fairly normal: get up, kick some ass, fondle his beard, take some names.

One minute he's participating in a run-of-the-mill mission, and the next minute, he's rescuing Brooklyn, the woman that is fated to be his, from the clutches of a criminal mastermind.

Nikolai is quite pleased with his fated mate. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Brooklyn.

Living in a religious commune for the majority of her life meant Brooklyn wasn't exposed to all of the outside world's craziness. The moment she turned 18, she was off and running towards whatever new experiences the outside world could give her.

In her quest to experience it all, she tends to jump into situations without weighing the potential consequences until it's too late. Brooklyn just wants to be free to make her own decisions and live her life as she pleases. But in her quest to save herself from the limitations of her old commune life, she lands herself in a dangerous situation, and Nikolai swoops in to her rescue, throwing her on the back of his dragon and flying off into the night.

He's a man-with-a-plan kind of guy, and she's a fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants (not on the back of a dragon!) kind of girl. Nikolai, however, has fate on his side, and whether she is ready to accept her fate or not, it won't be denied. Brooklyn's stubborn, though, and Nikolai will need to use all of his powers to show her that she's exactly where she needs to be.

Contains mature themes.

I really wanted to like it. I really did, but...

It’s just so disjointed? Poorly organized? Mishmash? There were gaps and things happened without explanation or description, making me think I missed something, but it happened over and over again. Magical powers were used sometimes but not when they would’ve been useful. Through all of it, I don’t know what the main characters even look like. And then there’s the narration... the h left her Amish community when she was 18 or 20 (inconsistent in the story) but she’s sassy, argumentative, crude, and has a southern accent? She was allegedly beaten by her family and arranged to be married when she was Amish and had an uncle and brother that were cruelly violent. Neither arranged marriage nor violence happen in Amish communities. The whole story was weird and didn’t make sense. Honestly, I can’t believe this got past editors and I don’t know why it has so many good reviews.

So much a*al play

I have listened to quite a few of this author’s books at this point and there is always sooo freaking much focus on the a*nal sex. I skip through it. If you’re into it, enjoy. If not, be prepared to skip.

Immortal dragon rider!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌎🌍
Character development: 🤐🤫🫣
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Nikolai - he is a dragon rider who bonded to his dragon, Perdita, when he was nineteen. He is immortal, like his dragon and he has some of the dragons powers, such as the ability to manipulate peoples minds by showing them illusions, telepathy, telekinesis, ability control heat and body temperature. He is also able make zones of protection around himself and channel another dragon or dragon riders powers when touching another dragon or rider.

The heroine: Brooklyn - she grew up in an Amish community but hated it. When she was sixteen years old, she left for Rumspringa and had herself declared emancipated. She stole some money from her father when she left and her father blamed her uncle for it. Recently her uncle kidnapped her and tortured her.

The Story: Nikolai was in charge of the mission to rescue Brooklyn, who is best friends with Blythe from I Like Big Dragons and I Cannot Lie. He brought her back to the dragon sanctuary and she was in a coma for weeks. He knew from the start that she was his mate and tattoos appeared on both of them when their bond formed. Brooklyn was now immortal as well and has some of the same abilities that Nikolai.

Brooklyn’s uncle had put a tracker inside her and tracked them down since the dragon riders didn’t find the tracker for a few days after they brought her to the sanctuary. Everyone in else had cleared out of the sanctuary to be safe.

This book was kind of fun and was definitely different than your standard dragon shifter romance books. Though the world wasn’t really explained all that well. For instance, what is the purpose of the dragon riders? They seemed like some sort of police or military force when they were rescuing Brooklyn but it never really explained it very well and I didn’t read the first book, so maybe it was all explained in that one.

This book was told in two points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Mason Lloyd and Kendall Taylor. I have listened to many books narrated by Mason Lloyd, he is a terrific narrator who always adjusts his voice to the character. Kendall Taylor was good with a youthful sounding voice which matched Brooklyn very well.

4.5 ⭐️❕

This series has been a departure from what I’m accustomed to from LLV but it’s been an excellent surprise. I’ve discovered a new genre in her dragon series that I’m thoroughly enjoying. Each book has pulled me deeper into the world she has created and LLV sets a scene that effortlessly draws you in and gets you invested in what’s happening with the characters in her story. I can’t wait for the next book!
