Publisher's summary

Many years ago, Sue-Ellen fell in love with the golden-haired boy held prisoner by her uncle. She did everything she could to keep him safe, even forsaking her family.

But would Samael do the same? When he finally escapes his prison life, she thinks they'll finally have their happily-ever-after.

Wrong. So wrong.

A mating between them has been forbidden because she is a mere shifter, while he is the gold dragon the world has been waiting for. The one foretold.

What the world doesn't know is that Samael plans to conquer humanity - unless someone stops him, and she might have just found the only weapon that can.

Golden Dragon King Remael and Sue-Ellen

Upstart Golden Dragon Samael is so arrogant he assumes he can order Sue-Ellen around without impunity. When she again refuses to mate with him, he throws her into an inescapable pit. She lands on a huge Dragon who just happens to be the boy she befriended and tried to keep safe. Remael, as it turns out, gave up everything just to keep her safe. He was thrown into the pit by Samael so Samael could have a clear path to Sue-Ellen. After both come away from the pit they face many challenges to be together. Liked this one very much. Can't wait for the next book.

Too much time in the dark

Sue-Ellen: “Don’t you dare!”
Brandon: “I have to- it’s in the big brother rule book!”
I already knew I’d have to suspend disbelief quite a bit to look favorably upon Sue-Ellen, who passed up rescue in book one in order to stay with a prisoner. Because telling them about the prisoner so they could rescue him too would have been far too logical, not to mention eliminating the need for this book. 😜

“Can’t a man have a hole to himself?”
Both MCs prove to be dim bulbs, repeatedly played as dupes in this installment. It made for some fun little plot twists. On the other hand, half of this story had them stuck in a hole, in a dark cave system.
Dark, dirty, and just the two of them didn’t exactly bring the action and the fun.

The other negative for this and the other two books in this middle trilogy is having the MMCs be evil, glorying in their power, manhandling and threatening women, and imprisoning folks for weeks, months, or even years before they’re featured in their redemption-romance story. Befitting the comic book vibe of the series, however, their behavior is merely evil with a small e; besides the imprisonment of folks, their bad behavior is mostly posturing. Final note: books 4-6 are available in a collection, which will be the better deal once the individual books leave the Plus library.
