Critic reviews

" Deadly Obsession is the third story about the Kinncaid family and is a heart-wrenching tale. A well-written, in-depth romantic suspense, Jaycee Clark's Deadly Obsession is one of those stories that will linger in your mind and heart long after the story is over." (Sinclair Reid, Romance Reviews Today)

A DARK OBSESSION FINALLY BROUGHT 2 LOVERS TOGETHER

When Christian goes from an abused child, frightened runaway teenager to a now stalked and abused woman it blows her once happy life apart and makes for a very nail biting listen. As you immerse yourself in these character's lives, through the dramas, turmoil and enduring love you will have been entertained but it'll also leave you emotionally drained.

Brayden and Christian spend a blissful night together but in the morning he is in denial about his feelings however everything changes when Christian is viscously attacked and nearly raped by a mystery man. He knows she's hiding secrets but he could never imagine how dark and devastating they would be but fear is making her unwilling to share as she is desperately trying to protect the family she has grown to love.

There's a lot of tenderness and some sexy and touching scenes throughout this listen and the romance was already established early on but grew and became stronger through all the traumas. This is definitely a spine chilling thriller as, once again, the Kinncaid family are there to lend their support and pick up the pieces - including the black sheep of the family brother Ian who was always in one disguise or another.

Worth a credit? Yes, although I prefer a slightly lighter listen this was definitely a well-written Contemporary Thriller/Romance that'll have you on the edge of your seat. I'm looking forward to book 4 Deadly Games which is Ian's story (yippee) and should prove very interesting.

A rating....

My Review:
Overall.... 4.50
Performance... 4.75
Story.... 4.25

So far, this has definitely been the best of the series. I loved this book...probably just because Christian and Brayden have had such a long relationship. She had been part of the family since she ran away from her family in her teens. To the other Kinncaid brothers, she's like a sister, which is why Brayden is so discombobulated by his new sexual feelings for her. He doesn't know what to do with this, but knows he doesn't want to do anything that could threaten Christian's standing in the family, so he steps back from his feelings for her. Something she does not appreciate at all.

I liked the by-play between Christian and Brayden at the beginning and LOVED how she stood up to him. She's always been there for him in raising his daughter Tori and just assumes that she always will be, no matter what happens between them emotionally. I love that she stood up to him on that and showed him that he couldn't take advantage of her. And watching her entire life-story unfold was heartbreaking. She's been through so much and has come out as such a strong character. I loved her.

And with this entire series...Kinncaid men...one word- YUMMY! Brayden doesn't change that at all. I love these guys and how protective they are and how they all work together to protect their women...including Ian, the black sheep who always shows up to help out. (I can't wait for his story!)

And, as always, Johanna Parker was AMAZING at her narration. I love her voices...both male and female. They work for me and she is definitely up there as one my favorite narrators.

THEY JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER

Where does Deadly Obsession rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Well, as far as Romantic Suspense goes it ranks pretty high. I am a big fan of romance, but when romance is mingled with some explicit sex scenes, sitting on the edge of your seat suspense and true tenderness then it doesn't get any better. This has it all, a little on the light side of the sex scenes, but everything else fit the bill so it kept me enthralled.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Deadly Obsession?

The first time Richard takes Christian, I'm not much of a flight kinda gal so it really stirred the ole' fight response in me. And, of course, Ian Kincaid's appearances are always memorable, but he out did himself this time.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration was really good. I think that her male voices could have been a bit more male (which is the case with most female narrators), rare is the female that can do sexy, gravelly, sultry, angry, and gruff male voices. That said, I believe the narrator does a great job with Jock Kincaid.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Boy, not sure at all.

Any additional comments?

This series is the only Jaycee Clark I have ever heard or read and am hooked. Audible needs to get going on the rest in the series. I am waiting for Ian's story and I am assuming I'll have to go through the other more obvious Kincaid men.

deadly Obsession

I am really enjoying this series. Christian Bills showed up at the Kinncaid home and was taken in by them and became more a sister and nanny for Tori, Brayden's daughter. When that line is crossed between Brayden and Christian, the morning after everything goes wrong and Christrian bolts and moves out. Now she has a stalker but this stalker is from her past and is extremely dangerous. This family has been through a lot and these brothers have had to work for their partners but these women also work for their men. Great story!

If you like stalker-thriller stories, this is one

I didn’t read or listen to any other books in this series but the author does a good job setting up context.

********SPOILERS AHEAD*************

Our hero Brayden isn’t the stalker so rest assured if the obsessive stalker hero trope isn’t your taste.

The writing does a good job of setting up the suspenseful mood and Johanna Parker does a good anxiety ridden panic voice. A lot of gasping and shortness of breath kinda narration. She also does a distinct creepy voice when the story switches to the stalker’s perspective.

I think one of the reasons most people rated this book low was because Christian didn’t report the stalker even though she knew who he was. I guess part of the author’s reasoning was that she knew what he was capable of and needed 100% absolute solid evidence against him before taking action. Not to mention all the shame and guilt she was carrying. But I felt 2/3 in, she should’ve just revealed it—that would’ve provided the necessary precautions the Kinncaids could’ve made to protect her and themselves.
