Publisher's summary

Deacon has an ugly history, a history that broke him, leaving him a ghost of a man. Out of necessity he left the normal world to descend into the criminal world and found he fit. So he stayed. Cold as ice and living off the grid, Deacon has no intention to connect, not with anyone. Then he returns to some remote cabins in the Colorado Mountains and finds they have new owners. One of them is Cassidy Swallow, a young woman willing to work hard to live her quiet dream in a house by a river surrounded by aspen and pine.

Suddenly Deacon finds he's at war. Cassidy's pull for him to connect is strong. He fights it, but he loses, always coming back for more. But when he does, he gives her nothing. From the first time she sees him, Cassidy knows Deacon is dead inside. She knows he’s the kind of man who could destroy a woman. But one night when Deacon's control slips, Cassidy takes a chance. He might break her. He also might be her dream come true.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Stella Bloom sucks listeners into Cassidy's ruminations on the hospitality industry, her failed romances, and her addiction for John Priest. Bloom's reading is as juicy as listening to your best friend talk about her love life." ( AudioFile)

Best book by far in this series

I liked these characters. This book is more like the Kristen Ashley I enjoy! The other books in this series were disappointing. I liked John Priest aka Deacon, and I like Cassidy - two believable characters. I liked the storyline as well. Hot sex scenes, fun dialogue, and interesting characters. The only downer was the reader. I just don't like her style. To me it's like fingernails scraping a chalkboard. The female voices for the secondary characters she used were horrible. Here are these buff, hot guys...I do not think their wife's would have those screeching loud voices. Yikes! Just not in to her reading /performing style.

She is back

This is the author I know and love. The story line was great. The narrator was much better than the one who was unable Raid. She spoke at the right tempo. I will, read this, along with Knight and Creed again.

Love This Series

I first read this series last year and I'd forgotten about this big ole cliffhanger. Deacon is a compelling character with his heartbreaking past. Cassidy is simply adorable. Feisty, smart, and beautiful. And she waited a long time to have the man of her heart.

The intimate scenes sizzled and the narrator was very good. The only male voice that sounded male-ish was, thankfully, Deacon's. But her performance was great.

Now I can't wait to hear about the illusive Nick. Time to open a bottle of wine and settle in. TTFN.

Gets better and better

Kristen Ashley is writing superb storylines! I can't decide if I like this one or Raid better. Those two being my favorites of this series. I truly love the characters. I was bawling towards the end of this one, not to mention the laughing out loud through out. Stella Bloom did an excellent job.

My only...complaint ?...is when the other characters from before come into the story, the "voice" being so different kinda throws it a bit. But not enough to deduct stars!!! Enjoyed this book and performance a lot.

My favorite in the series

I really liked Knight and Anya, hot hot hot, but Deacon took my heart. Maybe because I am always attracted to the strong but wounded type. Deacon and Cassidy were just meant to be. There are some references to some songs towards the end of the book. I looked them up and oh my goodness, I purchased them for my IPOD and listened to them and then replayed the end of the book. Yup it was that good. There were some moments from Deacons past that were so graphic it was hard to get the visual out of my head for a long time. Wow sign of a great writer yea?

My fave in this series

Deacon is my favorite in this series. His dark, dark history brought tears to my eyes. Cassidy is the bomb. She's quirky and funny and takes no crap. I fell in love with Deacon right along with. This is a definite Kristin Ashley read. Stella Bloom brought this to life making me feel everything Deacon and Cassidy experienced.
