Publisher's summary

In the dark of night, a blood war escalates within the hidden world of the Breed. After existing in secret for many long centuries, maintaining a fragile peace with the humans who walk beside them unaware, a single act of retaliation has put the entire vampire nation at risk of discovery. It falls to the Order—a cadre of Breed warriors pledged to protect their own and humankind alike—to stop Dragos, the power-mad vampire at the center of the conflict, before his push for domination can explode into catastrophe.

At the center of the Order’s quest is Sterling Chase, once a morally rigid enforcer of Breed law, now a warrior fallen from grace, whose biggest battle is the one he wages against his own savage nature. With addiction beckoning him toward eternal darkness, Chase’s path to redemption has never seemed more out of reach. But when his eyes meet those of Tavia Fairchild, a beautiful witness who identifies him at the scene of a mission gone terribly wrong, Chase finds himself drawn to the woman—and convinced she is something much more than she seems.

Pulled into a vortex of intrigue and danger, she can neither resist nor understand, Tavia is uncertain whom to trust. And while everything sane and logical warns her against getting close to Chase, she cannot deny that the handsome, deeply haunted male stirs something primal and ravenous within her. But even as she surrenders to her cravings, nothing can prepare her for the shattering truth of who—and what—she truly is.

As the Order’s enemy mobilizes for the battle of the ages, Dragos and his Minions unleashing a hell on Earth like nothing ever seen before, Chase and Tavia are thrust into the heart of the violence. With time running out and the streets running red with the blood of innocent lives, both Breed and human, together Chase and Tavia must find a way to defeat Dragos once and for all—or die trying.

Spend some more time among the Midnight Breed.

Best of a very good series.

I'm not sure if it's because this really is the best of the series or if hearing it instead of reading it makes it more intense. Whatever the reason this one kept me at the edge of my seat. She tied up some long over reaching plot lines and it was a good ride, well worth the wait. Can't wait to see where the series goes from here.

Kept me at the edge of my seat

It was no wonder that they signed another two books only days after announcing that the series may be cancelled. This book was the culmination of everything the breed feared and desired. You won't want to put it down once you start.

I loved it!

Would you consider the audio edition of Darker After Midnight to be better than the print version?

I prefer audio in any book, especially this series

What did you like best about this story?

I've been following this series since I listened to book 1 and I was so exited when book 10 finally became available. I loved everything about this book, all the plots and twist and turns, especially towards the end when Dragos finally got what he deserved.

What about Hillary Huber???s performance did you like?

Yes I did. I think she is a very talanted narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was. It was extrenly hard for me to stop listening, even at night when I needed to go to sleep,

Any additional comments?

Cant wait for the next book in the series. One thing I wish for, however is less profanity.

Wishing for more

What does Hillary Huber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Hillary is at the top of my favoraite Narrators list. When I'm forced to read a book in print (because it's not available on audio or I can't tolerate the narration) I find myself imagining how she'd read it. She catches all of the inflections and nuances just right. She give the characters depth and personaltity and reads the dialog like a dialog.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Please Don't Say It's Over!

Those of us who have read or listened to The Breed series have been waiting for Sterling Chase's "happily ever after" for quite awhile. However, this listener thought that this was the conclusion to an awesome series and I didn't want that. But not to worry. Even though this book tied up the loose ends nicely and brought us to a conclusion of sorts, a glance at the author's website shows books #11 and #12 to come so the world is not yet safe. (hooray for that!)
Chase is one of the good guys. He has always had a sense of honor even though he has been through some pretty horrible events. So he was due for some good stuff to happen and in this book, Chase found his perfect mate in Tavia. Tavia is a strong, likable character that is a great heroine, and she goes well with the tortured Chase.
Once again Hillary Huber is the narrator and she does an excellent job with the voices and accents. It is always nice when a great narrator reads the entire series.
Lara Adrian has not been repetitive in the course of 10 books. She came up with a fresh plot for every book. What an imagination she has!
I highly recommend this book, and the entire series. Not only did this series interest me enough to purchase every audio book, it has interested me enough to listen to every audio book again and again.
Buy the book, buy the series. You won't be disappointed. It's 5 stars all the way.
