Publisher's summary

In the new Carpathian novel from number-one New York Times best-selling author Christine Feehan, a woman falls prey to the seductive allure of the past - and a vampire warrior's intoxicating embrace....

The moment Charlotte Vintage walks into his club, Tariq Asenguard's blood is set on fire. The ancient Carpathian had given up hope of finding his lifemate, but now he will do anything to make Charlotte his own. What Tariq doesn't know is that Charlotte is using herself and her best friend as bait - to try to draw out the bloodthirsty killers who have already murdered Charlotte's brother and mentor.

Charlotte is familiar with Tariq. Not only is he one of the richest and most eligible bachelors in the city, but he's also a renowned collector of old carousel horses, which Charlotte restores. Their shared passion opens Charlotte up to trusting him with her life and with the desire she can no longer control. But it also makes her vulnerable to a centuries-old curse that will unite her and Tariq in a war against the enemies of humans and Carpathians alike....

Suspenseful...

I have been reading these stories, and this author for many years. Until now, I have always read them in order. Unbeknownst to me, there was a novella titled "Dark Crime," that was published in the anthology "Edge of Darkness," that actually comes before "Dark Carousel." There are things that are referred to in "Dark Carousel," that I had no clue about, because I didn't know I was supposed to read "Dark Crime" first. Don't make my mistake. It left me confused and frustrated. Now I feel like I need to listen again to this book to put it all back into context. I am writing this review a few hours after finishing "Dark Crime," and a few weeks after listening to "Dark Carousel."

Nonetheless, this was still an excellent story and I love hearing about these ancient Carpathians. The narrator does an excellent job with the book. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect score is because of the confusion I had while listening to the parts of the story that referred to events that the reader is supposed to be familiar with. I understand that "Dark Crime" is coming out as a stand-alone book in early October. IMHO, it should have been published on its own before this book was published.

Much better

I liked this book a lot. Especially the fact that this woman wasn't a crybaby fool like so many others. I can't stand the repetitive insecurity of some of the other life mates in these books.

Love book and

Love Jim Frangione's voice, but almost mixed me up considering I've heard him narrate for JR Ward series I have downloaded too. But great fit for great book. Love seeing multiple relationships starting and continued follow through from last book of series I listened to.

Interesting twist on the Carpathian series

If you could sum up Dark Carousel in three words, what would they be?

scary, heroic, fascinating

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that in the end they destroyed part of the master vampire

Have you listened to any of Jim Frangione’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

not sure

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me sad what happened to the children. But the moments with the dragons were sweet and funny

Any additional comments?

I know that this one was maybe a little darker than I would like, but there was a beautiful payoff at the end.

These Lifemates

I'm getting sick of these modern, intelligent lifemates acting like fools. If you see a big scary vampire and your lifemate gives you a warning you're not intelligent enough to heed that warning? In this book something occurs which was kept quiet for I think 2 or 3 chapters. Please if these women are so intelligent let them heed warnings especially regarding vampires. It's so frustrating.
