Publisher's summary

Beautiful, sweet Shay and dark, dangerous Tanner don′t have a lot in common. He′s a suspicious big city cop come home to his family′s ranch and she′s a bleeding heart who works for a group that seeks out ranches to conserve after the owners have passed away.

But the suspicious death of Tanner′s uncle at his ranch throws the two opposites together and sparks fly.

Working as a pair, using Shay's sweet personality and town connections, as well as Tanner′s experience, they set out to find justice - they never expected to find love along the way as well.

They both say it will just be temporary but when Shay is put in danger, Tanner realizes that he′ll give up just about anything to save the woman he loves. But will he have to sacrifice his life to save hers?

SADLY, IT'S NOT UP TO HER USUAL STANDARDS

I usually thoroughly enjoy an EL book but I'm sorry to say that I think this one will completely miss it's target market as although It's under the Romance section there wasn't a very strong romance and there was certainly no hot n heavy going on either. It was really a who dunnit and by the time you eventually find out who actually had dunnit you really couldn't care less.

There was a couple of murders, stolen gold coins, kidnapping, mild romance and even all that didn't hold my attention to find out the who, what and why's of the plot. There was a lot of - sneakily looking at or watching each other and then plenty of mental anguish and turmoil as to their feelings for the other person.

Worth a credit? Maybe if you're looking for a murder/mystery then maybe but I like more romance and passion - so sadly, it's a NO from me.

Disappointed Again

I have enjoyed several of Elizabeth Lowell's books. Her last one was boring and this one is as bad. The story is barely entertaining. but the narration ruins that. I have over 1,000 books in my audible library and I have yet to listen to one with such lackluster narration. Between the story and the bland narration, I had to force myself to get my credit's worth and finish the book. Elizabeth, what has happened?

Narrator is not the best.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator. I did not enjoy the reading by this person.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Betsy Zajko?

Susan Erickson

What would have made this romance irresistible?

A different narrator.

Narrator Ruins Story

This is a wonderful story ruined by the narrator. Her phrasing was terrible and she kept reversing small words - sometimes it mattered, sometimes not. I have always loved Lowell's novels. I was really looking forward to this one. I ended up buying the print version of this book so I could enjoy it.

Story is ok

The narrator’s tone was very nasal and grating. It detracted from the story. Reading the book instead of listening would probably be better.

Entertaining!!!

I enjoyed listening. Elizabeth Lowell has been one of my fave authors. She never fails to entertain me & this one is one of them.
Although the narrator sometimes combine the voices of Tanner & Shay i can’t distinguish which one is speaking. Overall, looking forward to another one by Ms. Lowell.
