Publisher's summary

First class petty officer Eric Randall is less than thrilled about taking orders to Okinawa. Three long, lonely years on a crappy island that's thousands of miles from his daughter? Oh. Yeah. Sign him up. But as long as he's stuck here, he might as well make the best of it, so he discreetly checks out the local gay scene, where he meets Shane Connelly.

What starts as a one night stand leaves both of them wanting more, but then Eric finds out Shane doesn't just outrank him, he's an officer. DADT may be repealed, but an enlisted man getting involved with an officer falls under conduct unbecoming a gentleman and could cost both men their careers. They both have kids to take care of, future civilian careers to consider, and retirements on the line.

Still, they can't resist each other. They discreetly spend nights together, and their mutual desire to explore the beautiful island of Okinawa is a perfect excuse to spend days together. As long as no one asks and they don't tell, there's no reason anyone has to find out.

But secrets like this tend to make themselves known...

Great

I really loved book. I enjoy how the author allows insight on what exactly each of the two main characters are thinking and feeling, instead of getting a one sided look from one of the main characters. I think the narrator did a wonderful job.

MM romance with a side of Okinawa

I enjoyed the story but could have done with a little less tour guide and more depth to the stroy. It's clear the author has either been to Okinawa or has a really good travel magazine subscription but I didn't come here for that. I came foe a good MM romance. Also Greg Boudreaux normally does a wonderful job with the narration but I feel like there was no shift between the two main characters and I often times got confused as to who's POV it was.

Great BUT

AWESOME STORY...,. But, it is still considered fraternization between an O1 and an O6. If that is discovered it would destroy the O6s career, so there is no possible way for them to be out in their relationship regardless if both are officers. But overall the author did a pretty good job capturing 50% of what life is like in the Navy.

So happy to see this in audio!

This was one of the books that made me an m/m convert! I absolutely loved the attention to detail the author, LA Witt puts into this story. It’s clear she’s spent time in Okinawa and in some capacity as part of the military.

I thought the romance was to die for! It was full of everything you could want. Hiding, passion, daring, and deep, deep feelings. And the physical times – WOW – there are a LOT of them and they are HOT.

While our MCs do spend much of their time alone together in bed, they also go on dates and excursions and I really believed in them as a couple. In addition to the passion they held for one another, they really clicked and worked as a couple – outside the bedroom.

This is a book for true romantics, fans of military themed stories and fans of truly erotic sex!

Audio

When I saw that Greg Boudreaux (Tremblay) was narrating this, I couldn’t order it fast enough! He’s an amazing narrator and totally at ease with the erotic nature of this story. He’s also knowledgeable about accents and Japanese and able to pronounce the myriad of Japanese words sprinkled throughout.

This is a fantastic way to experience this story and he did an amazing job with it!

Yeah an HEA!

I enjoyed this book in particular because I was a service brat growing up. While I understand what the child of a member of the military goes through, it gave me some insight on what my dad may have been feeling. The narrator did a wonderful job too🙂

2nd Time Around

I have to say that this is one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to in a long while, so much so I just finished listening to it for the second time.

The characters were presented as being “true to life” living life in secret but to the fullest. I enjoyed the history presented and the tour through a country unknown to me. I look forward to reading/listening to more books by this author.

Fantastic

The plot was well-done, the story was well-written, 98% of the time I knew which character’s POV was being presented.
And while I’m usually catching a dozen or more malapropisms or use of words (like betray) in direct contradiction to it’s meaning by other authors in this genre…. I found NO such mistakes to jar me out of the story, here.
Also, it’s heartbreaking to consider the jeopardy two such military men’s careers, future livelihood, and retirement are put in,… not only because of fraternization laws, but worsened because they are gay.

so good

I'm not the best at writing reviews, but this book was so good. The emotions were palpable. the main characters were *chefs kiss* very well written. Almost like I knew them.

So glad I bought this audio book!

This is one of the first MM books I read years ago and I had lots track of it. I had loved the romance between Erik and Shane and the vivid descriptions of Japan. Greg Boudreaux really brought this story and this couple to life. I feel like I’ve found an old friend and will listen to this again and again.
