Publisher's summary

Faking a relationship with an injured hockey player had never been on Eliot's to-do list. When he's sent by his editor at Cocky to interview the newly out hockey legend Danny Harper, though, he gets a little more than he bargained for.

Eliot has been stuck writing a men's fashion and grooming column that no one reads since he started at Cocky - a men's lifestyle magazine - a year ago. Desperate to prove himself, he takes the assignment to interview Harper, even though he couldn't necessarily hold a hockey stick the right way up in an emergency.

Danny turns out to be nothing like he expected - a lonely man who's missed out on a lot by being in the closet rather than the overconfident jock Eliot expects him to be. As much as he doesn't want to be, Eliot finds himself drawn to the other man.

When Danny proposes they fake a relationship to improve his image, Eliot jumps at the chance - not only does he need the money, but his curiosity about Danny demands to be satisfied.

With Danny struggling to get through the season on a busted knee and Eliot digging up the story that could make his career, can the two of them admit their real feelings and find their happy ending?

Contains mature themes.

Short, snappy romp!

These two are so cute. Danny is oblivious and Eliot is a little flirt. It's a pretty standard fake date for reasons, but we both are super attracted from the start. Which is an excellent formula. Eliot being a reporter was pretty fun. It introduced a new angle to the hockey romance than you typically see. But it was still just a fun romp of a romance between these two!

This was fairly low angst which was a nice change of pace from what I've been reading lately. I won't say no angst, we still had some in there. But it was dealt with fairly quickly. At least when it comes to relationship angst. Career and medical angst were there in spades, but because the relationship angst was fairly low it didn't stress me out so badly.

It helped that the audiobook was like 5 hours long. What a short, snappy little book. You gotta love a book that you can listen to during an 8 hour work day!

Great story, terrible accents

The main character was read with a terrible north-eastern accent. Took me out of the story everytime he spoke.

A heartwarming & wonderfully narrated journey!

This was a near perfect story for me. I wish it was either longer or had multiple installments. The characters were realistic and the internal dialog was spot on. Cheaper than therapy and more endearing than a Soap Opera...lol

Cocky

Danny and Eliot make a great team. I enjoyed the back and forth the learning to trust and the honesty these two share.

It was an interesting book one I was able to get lost in. I am kind of looking forward to the next to find out about Ben.

Though this book had hockey in it, it wasn’t really the center of attention which I enjoyed.

Joel does a great job with narration accept he likes to go breathy at times and it can be distracting. Other than that I enjoyed it.

good read!

this is a simple love story of reporter needs athlete and falls in love. I like the story in general I didn't like the narration that much it just fell off and I usually like to Joel Leslie so I don't know what the heck is up with that. I say give it a try for yourself.

sweet and sexy

This was a perfect audiobook to liven up my work day. It was sweet, and flirty, and contained two lovely men finding their person. Exactly what the romance doctor ordered. It’s also narrated by Joel Leslie, so you know it’s going to be a great listen.

Danny and Eliot are not what either expected when they were thrown together for Danny’s coming out story. Eliot only agreed to author the story because it was a chance to further his writing career, otherwise, he would never voluntarily hang out with a hockey player. Jocks have not been his friend over the years.

But Danny is Danny, and Eliot can’t help but like the guy. He’s sweet and a little shy. And Eliot can’t stop thinking about him. So faking a relationship seems like a no-brainer.

They are quite cute together. They enjoy the quiet moments together just as much as the steamy nights. And protecting and rooting for each other comes so naturally.

It’s a lovely story and would be a great read on a sunny weekend.
