Publisher's Summary

Times are hard in Montana in the mid-1800s, and when Nettie finds herself impoverished, desperate, and alone after the death of her husband, she flees the town of Helena to escape the clutches of the local saloon owner. But living off the land quickly proves much more difficult than she'd hoped, and after days without food she resorts to stealing from Jack Abrams, a gruff mountain man and trapper who lives a secluded, uncomplicated life in the woods.

Jack doesn't take kindly to being stolen from and when he catches her red-handed, Nettie ends up lying naked over his knee for a long, hard spanking. To her surprise, however, after her punishment Jack offers her food and shelter in return for cooking, cleaning, and doing as she is told. But Nettie is determined to never rely on a man again, and with a belly full of food and renewed determination, she abandons him to take another shot at living in the woods on her own.

Jack knows the headstrong girl won't survive without his help, especially when she chooses a grizzly's winter cave as her shelter, and he can't stand by and idly watch her demise. When his irritation with her foolish pride boils over, he decides it is time to show her how thoroughly a man can dominate a woman silly enough to venture into the woods alone. Jack's stern chastisement and bold mastery of her body leave Nettie begging for more, but is she truly ready to give up her freedom to be claimed by the mountain man?

Publisher's Note: Claimed by the Mountain Man is an erotic romance novel that contains sexual scenes and spankings. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

Hot historical audiobook

Listening to a book is different from reading it yourself. You create voices in your head to define the characters. Well, at least I do. Listening to an audiobook locks you into the narrator's idea (and execution) of the characters. You're also locked into his/her reading style. I heard Ken Solin narrate His Lady: Boston Doms Book 5 and thought his rough style fit the setting of the book. I wasn't quite as comfortable with his narration on this one. It's not that he was bad; I just expected more emotion and more depth.
The story itself is great. I loved the characters of Nettie and Trapper Jack. At first I admit I had some questions about Trapper Jack's views on women and what women can and can't do. Then I remembered: this is the old west. And his views were dead on for the time period. He was rational and practical and unemotional in trying to convince Nettie that she couldn't live alone in the wilderness. Of course, Nettie was pretty ditzy, too. She had no clue on how to survive on her own but refused to understand her ignorance would be deadly. As the story develops, the troubled histories of Trapper Jack and Nettie explain much of their temperment and views of marriage and dependence.
The emotional connection between Trapper Jack and Nettie is not insta-love or even insta-lust. Instead, it builds over the course of the book as each person's insecurities are revealed and dealt with. The final chapter is the culmination of the journey they began with a theft and a spanking.
Speaking of spankings, there are multiple scenes of spanking or domestic discipline as well as steamy sex scenes. Both types of scenes are well done, descriptive and explicit. If that's not your thing, you might want to skip this book. But if you enjoy your historical stories with sex and a dose of discipline, this is an excellent place to start.

Hot and delicious story with an awesome narrator!!

I already knew the story was fabulous, but Ken Solin did such an amazing job narrating it. Wow, the steamy scenes just came alive and I was so disappointed when it finished, even though I already knew it was coming. Nettie’s character was so stubborn and poor Jack had his hands full. The journey they took to find their HEA is just so well written. It's well worth a credit!!!

If I lived in the woods....

Amelia Smarts does it again! If I lived in the woods, I would want my own Trapper Jack! I had heard about this book before it's audio release, but was unsure it would live up to it's reputation. It did and more. From beginning to end, Amelia Smarts has a way of drawing you in with her spunky, independent women and alpha men. Then, just when you think you have a favorite hero, Trapper Jack comes along! Nettie who is trying as hard as she can to escape her past of being a prostitute steals Trapper Jack's chickens for food. When he in turn catches her, the fun begins. He definitely believes he is in control of their relationship and has no problem taking it. But as in all of Amelia's heroes, he also has the nurturing, tender side. His aftercare is what makes you fall for him every time. Nettie and Jack have a bumpy road together, but you know they are meant to be! This book was just too short! I would have loved more!!!!

Kenneth Solin pleasantly surprised me with his performance of this book. I did speed up the narration, it was way too slow for me, but with the slight increase was much better. He did give Trapper Jack a good alpha voice which was definitely necessary to make his character bigger than life. Amelia Smarts does it again!

Wonderful story, excellent narration

For those who love spanking romance tales, this book will delight you. Trapper Jack and Nettie both have some heartbreak in the their pasts but they find their way together in a delightfully loving tale.
Nettie steals his chickens at his wilderness cabin to keep from starving but of course he catches her and the ensuing tale is a joy to read.
Trapper Jack's alpha maleness is audibly accentuated by the awesome Ken Solin's voice styling.
Amelia Smarts has given us a loving dominant tale that warms the heart and proves once again that she is a superstar of spanking romance with the A++ novel. THANK YOU AMELIA!!!

I have mixed feelings about this one

There were parts I really liked and parts I felt ambivalent about. The spanking for fun was great, but when it was a punishment... then not so much. It was accurate for the time period though.

Overall I really enjoyed it, the character interaction was interesting (and hot) and all the survival skills information was useful for the story and real life.

The narration matched the story well, I enjoyed the character voices and the overall delivery.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher and/or author and/or narrator in exchange for an honest review.

Quick, steamy romance

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

This book was of a Romance between a Burly trapper man and an out of her element lady which was a easy listen.

The story itself was quick paced and interesting with a bit of romance and sex and how to live in the wilderness. It was a good book for a quick and steamy romance with a bit of sexual play.

The narrator did a great job with the characters and the narration. It was smooth and easy to listen to.

I would suggest this book for anybody who needs a quick, steamy romance.

Wonderful Plot Spoiled by Silly Spanking Season...

Well, given the reviews that I have read about this book, I am definitely in the minority. I'm not really a fan of corporal punishment (spankings) to adult women. In fact, I find it rather silly in books, especially given this excellent storyline by Amelia Smarts.

Nettie's story of struggle and perseverance IS VERY interesting, leading this listener to want more. She meets Mountain Jack after he accidentally traps her. Their feelings toward one another and their misunderstandings about the other's actions, as the story progresses are full of intrigue, angst, heartbreak and an evolving/devolving relationship, etc. A wonderful plot WITHOUT the abundance of 'silly spankings.' This 4 or 5 star plot garners a 3.5 because of my above reasons. (Please note that erotic writings do not offend me.)

Kenneth Solin's performance was very good. It felt and sounded very slow at regular speed. This seems to be an ongoing issue with me from many narrators. It is easily remedied by speeding the playback to 1.25x or even 1.5x speed. Solin's performance receives 4 stars from this listener.

Overall: please read my 2nd paragraph. I will average the story and performance – 4 stars

If Amelia Smarts wants my opinion; drop the spanking completely or commit/write racier material.

Note to potential listeners: this book contains sexual situations – mild compared to many books in this genre.

I received this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

Great read

Claimed by the Mountain Man by Amelia Smarts was a good read. I enjoyed reading Nettie and Jack's story. Nettie flees her life after her husband dies but finds herself in trouble. That was when she meets Jack and nothing goes as she's planned. This was a good read.
