Publisher's summary

Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For 12 years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.

WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.

It took me by surprise

I loved this series! I had to listen to it twice all way through. I think it’s first book like this I’ve listened to or read. You won’t be disappointed but you need strong emotions to get through it. It literally sucked me in.

The narrator ruined it for me

I wish they had gotten a guy to do the male narration. The woman who narrated it killed it for me. I couldn't set up the scenes in my head the way I wanted all I kept thinking about was this woman trying to sound like a man. *sigh* overall it's a great book, but I can't deal with the woman narrating it

I have a few questions.

So, Kaleb asks her if she would surrender her freedom for another girls captivity.
This is a false argument.
She is not responsible for any actions her perpetrator makes!
She is always allowed to say: yes. Because whatever he does or doesn’t do is IN NO WAY her responsibility.
For him to dis/agree to this oughtn’t be a problem for Kaleb. His personality wouldn’t have any problem disregarding her will. But it could have allowed for kaleb to grow as a character.
This book is dark and emotional but allowing Kaleb to grow would have made its million times better!

Narrator hurt the story

I think I will just read the next book. There was something I didn't enjoy about how she narrated this. Maybe it was the flatness of her voice at times or the way she narrated Caleb, I don't know. I was really into it for a while, but when I had to speed it up because I wanted to just get through it, I knew that wasn't good.

I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I'm a firm believer that a narration can make or break a book. Sadly, it's the latter in this case.

certainly left wanting more...

this was honestly a hard read for me and I considered calling it quits several times especially during the first few hours. I struggled through and was happy to discover things picked up a bit towards the end though this one ends in a massive cliffhanger and of course the second book is conveniently NOT included in the romance package as this one is. I really would like to read on and finish their journey but not sure I am willing to actually spend any credits on this series as it just seems to be lacking in several areas and I know there are better out there. but as for a free read included with the romance package it is a good one just be prepared for a not so happy or fulfilling ending

Wickedly Amazing, finished in a weekend!

What made the experience of listening to Captive in the Dark the most enjoyable?

The content was so unexpected. You felt the confusion that the character felt, there were moments that shocked me, made a little uncomfortable, yet added SO much to the story. The author placed the OMG moments so perfectly and then reeled you back in wiht every word.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the twisted chemistry that developes through the story.

Which character – as performed by Emily Durante – was your favorite?

My favorite character was Caleb, I think this was mainly because you saw his good side trying to peak out throught his messed up personality. Livie was amazing too because you saw this timid young girl develope into someone completely unexpected.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES! If only I had nothing to do over the weekend, I would have listed to it all at once, it was so captivating.

Any additional comments?

This book was definitely shocking and at times I felt disturbed that I was enjoying it, but the more you listen the more you are intruiged by the story and it all begins to come full circle. The book was always straddling the line of "appropriate" and often crossed it, but that is what made it so exciting and such a page turner. LOVE this book, cant wait to listen to the rest.

Not Romance

I was anticipating a dark romance. I got the 'dark' but not the 'romance'. In saying that, the book was well written and the narration was fantastic. The story just wasn't for me.
