Publisher's summary

Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For 12 years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.

WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.

Couldn't and wouldn't stop listening!

Would you consider the audio edition of Captive in the Dark to be better than the print version?

Honestly i Love both, but listening bought more of my imagination to life. i was focused on the characters and their interactions, the raise and fall of the narrators voices. i could feel what the characters were going through. great narration.

What other book might you compare Captive in the Dark to and why?

I'd compare it to Twist Me by Anna Zaries. another dark romance.

Have you listened to any of Emily Durante’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no i don't think so. but she did a great job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes i did.

Any additional comments?

i couldn't wait to read and listen to the next book.

Very Very Good

This was a really good book I didn't think I would like the subject this much it is a well written story.I fell for Caleb even though he was so hard to love at times I still fell for him. I loved how the book showed both points of views and how it kept switching back and forth. MY god the ending... Talk about a cliff hanger

Slow moving but necessary to the foundation!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes and I have already!

What other book might you compare Captive in the Dark to and why?

None I have ever read but it has awake a whole new world of erotic to me and I cant get enough.

Did Emily Durante do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

She did well but I felt like something was left to desired

Did Captive in the Dark inspire you to do anything?

Download more dark erotica!

Any additional comments?

I like this book the least out of all of them because it moved so slow. And by the time I was excitedly caught up in the book wanting to know what next it was over!! I'm happy I read it because it laid the foundation and build up for book #2. Book#1 was necessary for me to fall in love with Caleb and Liv and make book #2 sooooo delicious!

Everything was perfect!

The narrator not only successfully voices the story, but does so in a way that envelopes you deep into the stories center.

Unsettling....Yet it captivates you.

It is amazing how this author can captivate you with a subject matter that is so dark. I think it is because you can really imagine this happening. She makes Libby strong but at the same time powerless. This has you struggling to understand why you love to hate this book. Caleb is so broken and dysfunctional that you at times want to shoot him and others think thank goodness he is caring. I like the adage in the book that it is better to stick with the evil you know. This is so true for Libby. This book is excellently written and keeps you interested from start to finish. I knew from other listener reviews that this was going to be about rape, kidnapping and somehow turn into a love story. I was just not sure if I would be like the others and love it. In the end I did loved it. I think it was all in the way the author wrote about the subject matter. The only criticism is that it just ended abruptly. I had to double check that I did not skip ahead in the book. If the other books were not out, I would be upset. This is so worth the credit if you can handle the content.

Not bad.

New author for me.
This was an interesting listen. I didn't start to like it until near the end of the book when things got chaotic. It wasn't a bad listen but 🤷‍♀️
Warning for sexual abuse and abuse.

This Book…

has me questioning my damn morality. The topic of this book is absolutely horrible, but I’m so committed to it. I’ll deal with myself after I finish the series.
