Publisher's summary

You thought their story was over...but a love like theirs has no end.

Fate doesn't own Jake McKallister. At least, that's what he tells himself. Life is better than ever. He's at the top of his game, performing to sold-out crowds the world over. He has his health and a solid, fun-loving family to keep him grounded.

And he got the girl - the beautiful, quirky girl he's just made his wife.

Yes, life is good. If only fate would stop screaming in his ear.

Lucky is the best word for Casey McKallister. She has an awesome support system, a nerd's dream job at a prestigious accounting firm, and best of all, she's married to the hottest rock star to ever roam the Earth.

Yes, life is perfect...until it all comes crashing down around her.

They say love conquers all. That's what Jake and Casey are counting on.

Not my favorite

I am a bit of a unicorn...a guy who not only likes these books, but am passionate about them. This series in particular...it's my favorite. That said, I think it should be kept in mind that this review is being left by a person with man parts. I was just unable to appreciate a good deal of the scenes and content of this book. All the feels, just didn't apply to me personally this time around. Apparently there is a limit to being in touch with my feminine side. It was a good book, made me chuckle as her books have all done....it just wasn't my favorite. Overall, I'm so happy to see it getting outstanding reviews, because I wish nothing but success for this author and I definitely want more.

THIS DESERVES SO MANY MORE STARS

I’d been tempted before with Book 1 in this series, in fact it had been in and out of my cart so many times and I knew that one day I would eventually get around to listening to it.. however it was recently on sale so I excitedly snapped it up. And WOW no wonder there’s been so many 5 star reviews.. I, like most of you, absolutely fell in love with all the characters, the family dynamics, the plotline, the humor, the chemistry and rapport, the writing style that seamlessly blended highs and lows perfectly, the pace.. oh I could go on and on and on. So it was a definite ‘one click’ moment for this second slice of Jake and Casey’s love story.. and boy oh boy J. Bengtsson didn’t disappoint - in fact she totally blew me away.

There was so many emotional angles to this rollercoaster story which was overflowing with feels as Jake and Casey overcame many hurdles, let secrets of the past out, went through a devastating heartbreak and slowly settled into married life. Their bond remained strong as they supported one another during some bleak times and difficult decisions, their love was constant, their sexy times were passionate and their HEA was perfect. And eventually the dynamics and character growth, the twists and turns, the laughs and tears and the passion and the romance all lead to a very sweet Epilogue.

Worth a credit? Absolutely YES.. it’s a sequel not an extended Epilogue and there are whole new unexpected life dramas for the Rockstar and the Accountant. It’s a dual POV love story narrated by two very talented well loved narrators and I’m about to go back and buy the other two books in the series too.

Now bring on Cake: The married years

I laughed and cried so much listening to Cake: The newlyweds. It was awesome learning more about life after marriage for Jake and Casey. J Bengtsson writes stories we can relate to instead of farfetched fairytales. Jake and Casey overcame so much as newlyweds. This time around Jake isn't the only one with issues Casey has some of her own. I love the McKallister's and The Caldwells and I didn't want this book to end. I hope the next book is about Keith. As for the narration, Andi Arndt and Joe Arden did a excellent job. Thank you J Bengtsson for another amazing book with this complex fun loving family it was a very deep, enjoyable, and emotional read.

Best book in 2018!!!

First let me say I L-O-V-E-D it!! I laughed, I cried and freggin busted out laughing with tears running down my face. It was amazing!! Casey is a nutball and Jake is a nutball for her and I love them both...in addition to their nutball family, lol. I’ve gotten so many people into this series and if you live on an island somewhere and haven’t listened to or read the first CAKE book, PLEASE evacuate the island immediately and get the book...get the series...just do it! I love how relatable the story was, the emotion, the fear of marriage and all that comes with it. I love the sibling rivalry and the points of realization. This book was EVERYTHING! Gosh- I can go on and on about this book but if I do, I’ll give something away but I’ll say this- I’ll never look at German Chocolate Cake the same!!! LOLOLOL!! Oh and let’s not forget about the narrators, Andi Arndt who is my ALL TIME FAVORITE female narrator KILLED IT! And OMG!! Joe Arden...swoon! Admittedly, he’s not my #1 but I do love his voice and he’s PERFECTION in this book. I don’t think my #1 could’ve done Jake any better. J. Bengtsson, IDK how you come up with this stuff but your talent is truly remarkable! I wish this was a movie...even though it would be a super long one but still!

Worth a credit? Nope- it’s worth 2 credits! GET IT!!!

Love the Series but not this one

Honestly the first book captured my heart! I love the series but this book didn’t do it for me. Casey’s POV here is so different from the first one she annoyed me with her whiny & needy attitude. Joel Arden (favorite) is on point he is so hilarious amazing performance.
Andy Arndt I love her and also one of my narrator she’s really good. Casey I wanna smack her and put senses into her, the things she made Jake do that’s not how you treat not just your fiancé/husband who’s rockstar, some of them were so unreasonable. The plot! I would’ve preferred more scene between Jake & Quinn it’s relatable and Casey not so relatable it’s unbelievable!! Just no really disappointing that Jake character ended this way.

expected more

this was a good book, but didn't compare to the others for me. there were definitely parts that I teared up and parts that made me laugh but if I compare it to the others it just wasn't as good.

as always, perfect narration by these two.

Fell short of my expectations

I have enjoyed most of the stories in this series, especially Fiercely Emma, sadly I did not like this one. Casey annoyed me in a way she did not in Cake. She came off as silly, self absorbed and insensitive too often in my opinion. The story also felt forced more often than not. I don’t completely regret the listen, despite all my moments of teeth gnashing and eye rolling, as I was quite invested in Jake and eager to see how his arc resolves.

How Do You Top 3 Home Runs in a Row?

In all three of the previous books in this series, J. Bengtsson hit it out of the park with the bases loaded. Undoubtedly some of the best characters, writing, and storytelling in the entire romance genre (and should appeal beyond the genre as well).

Given that remarkable achievement, some disappointment was probably inevitable. "Newlyweds" is in no way a strike-out, pop fly, or foul ball--it's a good, solid, base hit, maybe even a ground-rule double.

My main problem was the character of Casey, so wonderful in the first book, who for the first half of the book acts like a complete ditz. If I'd been Jake (who remains wonderful), I'd have been filing for divorce right after the honeymoon, or if not then certainly after the office Halloween party. The second half of the book, however, is more grounded, Casey is back to being a strong and relateable character, and there is more of the extended family we've come to love. This series has an unforgettable cast of characters that grow with each installment, and I was once again enthralled.

Please keep up the fantastic work, J. Bengtsson! There is so much rich material here for you to mine and for us to enjoy. Can't wait for the next book!

This is at least a 10 star book!!

After listening and loving the first three books in this series I was wondering how in the world it could get any better. J. Bengtsson just blew this one out of the water. You laugh, you cry, you fall in love, you catch up with the family that everyone wants to be a part of. You cheer them on and wish our favorite CAKE couple good things. This is even before mentioning that Andi and Joe did a fabulous job. I can't wait until the next book. I think this is a must read series. So worth the credit / money and time.
