Publisher's Summary

When Theodore Davenport decides to switch his mundane job for a career, he walks into Holden House Publishing with enthusiasm and determination to succeed. As he settles into his new role, makes new friends, and dreams of making it to the top, everything is going to plan. Until he meets James Holden, CEO of Holden House. James Holden hasn't been able to stop thinking about his encounter with the timid man he met in a club bathroom last week, and when he discovers the one haunting his dreams is an employee, he can't seem to stop himself from pursuing him. Just a little fun - that's what James tells himself. He can't afford to care for someone who can never reciprocate, not once they find out who he really is. James believes nobody deserves the burden of being attached to him. He's a complicated man. Damaged. Difficult. Demanding. Broken. Is Theodore strong enough to confront James' demons? More importantly, is James?

M/M romance. Not suitable for listeners under 18 years of age due to language and sexual content.

Please note: This book contains scenes of self-harm, mental illness, and suicidal ideation which may be uncomfortable for some listeners.

    "Broken but not Beaten"
What did you love best about Broken?

The story is good. The book is even better due to its exploration of how people and families live with mental illness.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Broken?

Not that I liked what she said, but James' mother portrays many people's opinions when she lectures James during his hospitalization.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Joel Leslie?

I listen to Joel Leslie's books often. I find his voice whiny but he tells the story well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me proud of both Theodore & James.

    "Beautiful heartbreaking story"

I first read this book a year ago and it is one of those books that you keep thinking about long after you finish reading it. The characters are realistic and the main character, the one who considers himself 'broken', is spot on.

I really had no problems with the book other than as an American I sometimes had trouble understanding the narrator. But that was my problem, not his. I highly recommend this book to every to gather a better understanding of mental illness and how it can be accepted by society.

    "Wonderful..."

This books main character, Mr. Holden, could be me. His negative thoughts and worries reflect so much of my daily struggle. I wonder if the author read my mind while writing this. lol

Recommend it especially if you know someone that suffers a (spoiler alert) mental illness.

Very emotional content, read with caution.

    "A Wonderful Story"

Broken is about a gay CEO who is struggling with bipolar disorder. It's very relatable, romantic, and hopeful. As someone struggling with a mental health problem, I could relate to the main character. I love this book. Not only is the story amazing, the narrator (Joel Leslie) did a terrific job. After hearing this book and Femme by Marshall Thornton, a book he also narrated, I now look for books that he narrates. You don't have to have a mental health problem or be gay to enjoy this book. It's a very good book. I highly recommend it to adults.

    "Heavy, but so very good."

It's an intense book, at times very emotionally draining, but I don't regret reading it for a moment. Mr Leslie does an excellent job of bringing emotion and tension to the story and the characters.

    "Really amazing audio"

I absolutely loved this book when I read it. Now having the audiobook it just adds a different dimension to the story.

Joel does an amazing job of bringing the characters to life and his voice is so like the voice I have in my head as I'm reading!

I am a fairly recent convert to audio books but am so excited to now have a Nicola Haken book on my iPad so I can now listen to Theo and James and it's my new obsession when I am cleaning or driving!

Congratulations Nicola on your first Audiobook - it's amazing!
