Publisher's summary

Bridget Flanagan knows how to assess risks, but are the consequences of exposing her heart too dangerous?

Bridget has a passion for safety, and in the world of oil refineries, that makes her great at her job. So when her big promotion goes to someone else, she heads out on the town to forget her troubles. Jack Gibbs seems like the perfect man to distract her.

At least until Monday morning when she discovers Jack is her new boss. There's no way she's going to keep seeing him, no matter the connection between them. She's been burned before.

Jack can't understand why Bridget's so against their relationship. They positively sizzled during their one night together. He knows he has to be careful now she reports to him, but she tempts him in every way.

Can Jack convince Bridget to give him a chance, or is the risk too high?

Rules are Meant to Be Broken

Bridget has 2 rules in her life....1. never sleep with a guy on the first date and 2. never have a sexual work relationship, of which she breaks both rules.

The story begins with Bridget getting overlooked for a job promotion and her best friend taking her out to a bar to help cheer her up. While at the bar, Tayna meets Hal and starts dancing, while Hal's brother, Jack starts up a conversation with Bridget. The conversation ends up with Bridget taking Jack back to her place, where he stays the night, then come Monday morning, she finds out that Jack is her new boss, that the company hired instead of promoting her to that position.

Bridget holds her own with the guys at work and proves to others that she really cares about the fact that folks come home to their families in one piece, as safety is her main concern at the plant they work at, and ultimately ends up saving Jacks life when there is an explosion one day at the plant.

Many moving pieces to this book, all of which made it work. I did not like the refugee part of it and feel that politics should not be included in fiction novels, as this is why people read them-to escape, not dwell on issues of our country (this is my only complaint about the book).

Keeping the rules will keep her heart intact.

This is a great romance. Very realistic about life and love and what can happen when work and romance intermingle. She has had her heart broken and her work reputation harmed so she decides to make some rules about keeping Romance out of the workplace. It is all good until she meets Jack, her bestfriend's boyfriend's brother. There is lots of chemistry and the sparks fly but then, on Monday, Jack turns out to be her new boss. What should she do? Keep her rules or keep the guy. A great book and read very well by the narrator. I will definitely read more in this series.

Rules!

Break the Rules by Claire Boston pulled me in immediately. I enjoyed the instant chemistry of Bridget and Jack. So often women are overlooked for promotions in male dominated industries, and that was no exception for Bridget in this book. With Jack being her new boss, she fights their attraction, while building the passion. I thought the imagery was great, and the banter fun, the passion is intense, and there is some suspense. Kathryn LaPlante performed this book flawlessly. She gave the characters distinguishable voices, and I could hear exactly who was speaking. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Book 2!!! I need it!

The first in the Flanagan Sisters series, Break the Rules is sexy, sizzling with a back story to keep your interest piqued! Working in the male dominated world of oil refineries, Bridget Flanagan works in the safety division. Now walking into to work, she finds the man she met over the weekend for a night of passion is her new boss! This is not going to work, her first rule is no dating your co-workers. Jack and Bridget work well together and circumstances keep putting them together both in and out of work. Will she be able to resist the attraction? This couple is full of passion and banter. I felt their chemistry and was rooting for them the entire book! I loved their work, the way Jack stands up for her, the constant fight for the safe workplace, the disgruntled employees, the struggle for a woman to be heard...it's all woven together so well, the listen flew by and I fell for all of it. It's got a little suspense, a lot of emotion, some family angst and just all around good narrative.

Narrated by Kathryn LaPlante, the story flows easily. She is talented and gives the story the emotional pull and passion. I loved her ability to give each voice it's own personality. She gives a wonderful performance.

Entertaining

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. The narrator was the best part of the story for me. The emotions were brought out so well that you didn't miss anything. The story was entertaining although the sex came too soon in the story and a little too often. The concept of the story was good and stood on its own.
