Publisher's summary

Taliesin Wick knows exactly what she wants to do with her life. Even when her house-flipping father puts their home in Austin on the market and moves the family to Pennsylvania, it's nothing but a minor wrench in the cogs of her dreams.

Then she meets Nate Thorne.

From the moment she first spied Nate playing guitar on his front porch, Tali was drawn to him. The sorrow in his songs, the deep sadness in his beautiful eyes...she can feel Fate pulling her to him.

Something haunts him. He never talks about the sins of his past, but she knows he doesn't trust himself, especially not with her heart. Tali can't imagine the sweet, loving boy she's come to know being the awful monster he thinks he is, but what if he's right? What if learning his secrets changes the way she feels about him?

Tali doesn't know if their whirlwind of bliss is just a summer fling, or something much more, but she does know falling in love with Nate is going to leave the kind of mark you can never erase.

Very good listen!

Any additional comments?

Based on the title, I had some preconceived notions about this listen. Boy was I surprised. Pleasantly so.

The book had somewhat of a heavy subject matter but it was written in such a light and whimsical tone that you never get bogged down with anything. The narrator was really good when she was telling the story. She was challenged a bit when it came to narrating the characters (I really did not like how she narrated Nate) but the story was interesting enough that it won't stop you.

The big mystery/Nate's pain point was interesting and you can see it coming. It was very welcomed though, like an old friend. I really did enjoy this listen.

Great Contemporary Love Story With Some Drama

I really enjoyed listening to this book. The characters were well developed and their personality very engaging.

The story is told in Tali's POV. She is a confident teen that just graduated from High School and is on her way to Pennsylvania from Texas. She has everything planned out until she sees Nate. The boy with the sad songs & hurt eyes.

They get together quickly & fall for each other fast but Nate is hunted by his past. Can he overcome his past and move on with Tali?

The story doesn't end with any cliffhangers. It is a HEA ending. A little drama & some serious subjects are dealt with towards the end. Nates secret is pretty heavy... But Tali is mature and helps him.

The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life!

Boys Don't Cry

Any additional comments?

Enjoyable YA romance with a HEA
I consider it YA because the characters 18 to 20 years old.

You never know how your actions or words will really affect someone.
Hind sight is 20/20 as they say.
Nate is dealing emotionally with the consequences of actions he regrets. While he has changed from the person he was, he has mostly withdrawn from everyone. Until Tali moves in across the street.

While they have issues in their relationship, I really liked how mature Tali was. Not that she didn't act like a normal 18 yr old, she just handled serious situations with a level head.

Nice twist that Tali and Nate have a "connection" before they even meet.

Tricia DiSandro did a good job with the narration. Nice voice. She was able to convey the emotions of the characters. All her character voices were good except Nate. Did not like her voice for Nate.

Light breezy young beach read....

What made the experience of listening to Boys Don't Cry the most enjoyable?

The author definitely gave the characters some unexpectedly charming attributes.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I honestly, thought the author touched on a very serious and sad subject enough to give it some consideration but still kept it light enough that it will be understood for the younger young adult the book is meant for.

Have you listened to any of Tricia DiSandro’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not, I.itially I was a bit surprised at the young tone, and it took me a little bit to settle in to the book.... I am glad I did tho as it had some great points approached from a unique place that I appreciated.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to it over the course of a road trip so I can't say that I didn't...

Any additional comments?

I felt like the ending was little abrupt and would have liked it to have followed with the pace of the rest of the book, aside from that I think I would recommend this book for a good summer read:)

Loved the characters

Which scene was your favorite?

The epilogue was my favorite, I wish I had more of a look into their future but it was cute seeing where they were and what their plans for life were going to be.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved how mature Tali was and how she handled her life and Nate's secret.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The book is based on two young adults, one who had just graduated highschool and the other a year older. I really enjoyed the characters especially Tali and how mature she was about handling situations, usually characters her age annoy me at times. I loved that both Nate and Tali were nerdy with their video games and shared the same interests but they also had lives outside of the games.

YA Drama

Audiobook - Narration, Tricia DiSandro
I would rate her as a good/OK, her characters tended to sound a little angry or annoyed, but good, clear narration.

I've read a ton of books and I think because of that, there were several themes that rang familiar to me. I enjoyed it and listened to the entire story, but I didn't feel a real connection to the main characters of Tali and Nate. I enjoyed the bits with the little brother and sister probably the most, but just couldn't bring myself to experience the emotions that I was supposed to feel regarding the H/h relationship. There were parts that I was thinking - this should be sad enough to make me cry - but nope... nada... nut'n.

BUT, as I said, I did finish it and this may just be a case of 'it's not you, it's me' so don't let my thoughts keep you from reading/listening if other reviews compel you to do so.

Not My Cup Of Tea

I did not realize how YA this was. It really did not srike my fancy at all. I read some reviews and thought I would try it since they thought so highly of it, by the time I got to chapter three I felt like ugh what is this? The story centered around two teens one of whom had just graduated high schol and the other a year older. I did say she graduated from high school but she acted just like her young brother. Calling him names and reacted to his name calling just like a nine year old. Well the rest of the story was not much different. Guess you have to form your own opinion. I can't tell you how much I did not like the story although the narrator did a good job with the characters. The story left me begging for so much more.
