Fiercely independent, Isla heads up her own small band in the San Francisco area. She's never needed help before, but dark sorcerers drive her and her group into hiding, trapping them. Sam's worked for the Coven as one of their enforcers forever. He's been there so long, the Coven is the only mistress he knows. It's a lonely life on the road thwarting wickedness and Black Magick with his guns, his magic, and his horse, but it's been enough to satisfy him. Until now. A group of witches is in deep trouble. They're not part of the Coven, but Sam is sworn to protect all witches and he rides to their assistance with several of his brothers. Nothing prepares him for the outspoken spitfire who ends up riding double with him. She's forthright, opinionated, and downright hostile, but he's drawn to her self-sufficiency - and her undeniable beauty. Soon, Isla is all he can think about. Dark forces are on the move. Protecting the woman he's falling in love with is at the very top of Sam's list. If they manage to survive, he'll tame her. Claim her. Make her his.
What did you love best about Blood and Illusion?
I enjoyed seeing the characters battle their demons (internal and external) on their quest for happiness and fulfillment. I liked how the enforcers found ways to work together with the witches they were sent to rescue, and how in the end, the characters found ways to move past their differences and past "offenses" as they battled evil. There were also a lot of unexpected twists and turns throughout the story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked Isla - she was a strong woman who wasn't afraid to fight for what she believed in. She stood by her friends and didn't back down when she knew she could help. She didn't take the easy road, but also learned to accept help from others and open herself up to possibilities.
Which character – as performed by Hollie Jackson – was your favorite?
It's hard to pick one character. I enjoyed the voice she used for Aethelred, but also for Isla and Sam. She did a great job of using different voices for each of the characters, making them unique.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I would have loved to have listened to the story all in one sitting, but that's never really a possibility. I had read the story previously so didn't mind so much having to stop and take breaks.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed the Coven Enforcers series...should definitely be read/listened to in order.
This series just keeps getting better with every book. This is book #3 and I absolutely loved it. Isla and Sam meet when Sam and other coven enforcers arrive to save a group of witches who are pinned down by evil forces. The story is about their journey to safety and the immediate attraction between Isla and Sam. You also learn some interesting things about some of the characters from the first two books. The narration is awesome as always. I cannot wait for the next book!
