Publisher's summary

Laird Keir McQuade is a newcomer to his title, and has much work before him to restore the McQuade honor. Finding a wife is an excellent start. He's duty-bound to go to court and swear homage to his king anyway, a perfect opportunity - were not court women trussed in stupid fashions and corrupted with false mannerisms. Of course, not every lady hides behind a powdered face...

Helena Knyvett may be a daughter of the aristocracy, but in truth she is little but a pawn in her brother's ploys for power. Her smallest acts of defiance carry a heavy price. But one honorable man among a crowd of dandies could give her all she needs to change her fortunes - and set her free...

Among the ruthless ambitions of England's powerful, love at first sight is a dangerous game. But the treachery, scandal, and treason that follow can unleash as much passion as it does adventure...

Narration a complete fail. Story was a win

I advise against the audible narration - I believe Bruce Mann is actually a robot. How could anyone have allowed this series to go out with this narration?? Mary Wise deserves better and so do we. Where do you go for a refund?

Super Steamy

Enjoyed the story about the court of James 1. Wine always includes tidbits of history with her story. I liked the info about the tower. Wonderful love story just a little too steamy for me plus a little mystery. The narrator did well on voices and I felt the narrative was pleasing not like Justine Eyre who tends to moan after ever sentence.

Need a new narrator

I could not follow the story well due to the narration being so poor. Please choose another. This is the only time I feel I wasted my money on a book

Oh wow!

I am not one to write bad reviews or be ugly in these kinds of posts but this was BAD! I made it 2 minutes into the audible version and switched to the kindle version! The narrator was horrendous! Sounded like a nervous school boy reading for a play! No inflection no passion... Was a complete and utter waste of my audible credits, I would like a refund!

Monotonous

Could not get half through the 1/8 of the first chapter because the performance was so bad. It irritated me to listen to this performance. The performance was very poorly done. Taking this book out of my library.
