Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of Archer's Voice. Becoming Calder is the first part in a two-part romance series. The conclusion, Finding Eden, is available now.

There is a place in modern-day America with no electricity, no plumbing, and no modern conveniences. In this place there is no room for dreams, no space for self-expression, and no tolerance for ambition. In this place there is a boy with the body of a god and the heart of a warrior. He is strong and faithful and serves his family honorably. But he dares to dream of more.

In this place there is a girl with the face of an angel and a heart full of courage. To her family she is the vision of obedient perfection. But she dares to want that which she has been told can never be hers.

Becoming Calder is the story of good versus evil, fear versus bravery, and the truth that the light of love has always found its way into even the darkest of places.... From the beginning of time, to the end of the world.

BOOK 1 OF 2.. IT'S A UNIQUE BREATHTAKING EPIC SAGA

I will try, but I will surely fail, to put into words just how truly magical, captivating, romantic, mesmerising, powerful, emotional and unforgettable this sweeping saga is.

This is the story of a little boy called Calder who was growing up in a closed off Religious Sect called Acadia and the evil mad Leader of the Sect who brought a little girl called Eden into the Community one day proclaiming that she is the 'chosen one' and will be his bride when she turns 18. But as soon as Calder and Eden's eyes met, even at a young innocent age, there was a strong pull of friendship which, over the years, turned into a breathtaking beautiful love.

But living in the Sect was hard, there were the privileged members who had all mod cons and the workers who had nothing. They were preached at by the Leader that the Gods have spoken to him and the end of the world will happen and that he is going to lead them all after death to the promised land..... providing he marries Eden. However, over the years people see how Calder and Eden start to look longingly at each other and they all disapprove - especially the Leader. So he finds ways to torment Calder regularly coming up with new ways to single him out, torture him and try to break him. Calder is beautiful inside and out and he won't be broken because his whole world is Eden and Eden's whole world is Calder and they long to live freely together so make plans to escape.

Which is where your emotions are truly going to be tested and, as if the story wasn't heartbreaking enough, this is where the story will fill you with joy and happiness, shock and devastate you, bring you to tears and eventually have you sobbing for the doomed lovers. Dual POV and a team of great narrators who brought the whole emotional and very powerful story to life. This is book 1 so there's a mother of all cliffhanger endings and you might as well download book 2 Finding Eden while you're downloading this book because you won't be able to move forward until you've finished them both.

Worth a credit? One thousand times YES it's deep, it gives you a true sense of how members of Cults are brainwashed, it's very very romantic and touching, it's nerve wracking and pulse pounding, it's emotionally draining, there's twists, shocks and tragedy and it's very well written. Mia Sheridan is an awesome Author and, from now on, she will be an auto download for me.

Great story

All I will say is you've got to hand it to the author. This book was wonderfully written, the story compelling and riveting. You'll be biting your nails and on the edge of your seat through much of it. But that ending? Geesh! If you don't immediately get the next book, you're nuts. lol Now, on to the next installment.

Emotionally Gripping Love 😍

I was so engrossed in this poignant story. It not only consumed me but caused me to loose sleep because I couldn't stop listening.
The characters are so memorable and well developed that it's very easy to get emotionally attached and stay interested. Colder, Eden, and sander just capture your ❀ while you root for the to get out of this dysfunctional situation.
I had so many reactions with this book because of all the emotional layers.
I was swooning, anxiety- ridden, heart broken, despondent, and angry.
I should have known what I was getting into because Mia is so skilled at putting her vivid imagination into words.
Everything she writes is captivating poetic bliss.
Jennifer and Anthony did a flawless job portraying these wonderful characters.
I'm just glad the sequel "finding Eden" is also available on audible because I can't wait to devour it as this one left me in a cliffhanger.
Cliffhanger and all this book is still worth a credit of its own.

Young Love and a Desire for Freedom

This audoiobook started off really slow. I had to keep checking to make sure it was a Mia Sheridan book because I wasn't engaging. About 40% into the audiobook and I got hooked and then it was just angst filled.

Stories featuring cults often require world building and character development, but once it hits the stride, it was so difficult to stop.

The characters Eden, Calder and Xander were so fascinating that their plight was causing me stress. I didn't even realize when I had gotten sucked in until I was finished my audio at 5:21am.
I was so hopeful for them because I was moved by their courage and desire for more. There is always a couple of people in a cult who see beyond the veil and then fight for freedom. These 3 were those rebels and I was rooting for their success.

I wish I had more information on the prophet Hector and his group of oppressors Elders. The abuse of power, enjoyment of crushing hopes, self-esteem and ultimately spirits was disheartening. But I would have appreciated more background to their journey to becoming abusers.

This audio ended in a cliff hanger and I will jump into the next shortly. Maybe that audio will have some answers as to why Hector unraveled etc.

My Love for Mia's Stories is Unending

I was pretty blind going into this book and I am pleased to say I LOVED it! It was the perfect mix of drama, intensity and angst - all centered around a beautiful love story.

I was completely enthralled with this story, these characters and the setting. The idea of people aquiescing to the lifestyle of the setting is both fascinating and frightening. It definitely kept me engaged throughout the story with a need to know how it would conclude.

There is some unresolved conflict in the end and I am pleased that I have the next installment in the series, Finding Eden, ready to go.

The narrators did a fabulous job with the alternating POV.

surprised at how good this one was!!!

loved the love story between the two main characters. Their challenges were different from other books but and their love for each other seem so much more special. I have already downloaded the 2nd book can't wait to get some closure. I was crying by the end of this one and am hoping for some sort of happy ending in the next one.
