Publisher's summary

If it was still beating. Angus MacKay has been undead for almost 500 years and it's not often something, or someone, surprises him. Until Emma Wallace. The sight of this luscious agent from the CIA's elite Stake-Out team was enough to stop Angus in his tracks. But then he discovers that she's a vampire slayer, intent on killing the "monsters" who killed her parents. And it's Angus's job to stop her.

The only good vampire is a dead vampire. It's been Emma's motto since she committed her life to the destruction of these things. Now Angus MacKay wants to convince her differently. Sure, he's a sexy Highland warrior who seems to have stepped off the cover of a romance novel, complete with brogue, kilt, and sword, but he's also one of them. And it's her job to kill him.

The war is on, but will it end in the destruction of one or both of them... or in total surrender to a passion for the ages?

Bite into another Love at Stake novel.

Negative points for narrator

These books are a fun diversion from reality but the narrator choice for THIS one ruins the fun. WHY, when the main character of THIS book is Scottish, did they choose a narrator who can NOT do a Scottish accent? The narrators for the other books (so far) have done FINE Scottish accents so it makes NO sense that this narrator was chosen for THIS book. Makes me believe that the publisher takes a "who's up next" attitude toward choosing narrators and they should be ashamed! It's a disservice to the author, reader and to the otherwise capable narrator.

Right Story, Wrong Narrater

This book really needed someone to do accents. I am completely distracted by the American woman not even trying to get the voice right. I cringe very time she reads the male lead that should be a Scot. I KNOW there are narraters who can do this. Why wasn't one used???

Horrible narrator

I really liked this series, but I have never heard a narrator this bad before. I got really bored with the story after listening to the robotic voice, and couldn't wait for it to be over. If the book had a different narrator I'm sure the story would have been better.

Love the Book/Story - Not so Much the Narrator

This book series is one of my favorites and I have read all the books in the series, in some cases multiple times. This particular book (Angus MacKay's story) has always been (and remains) one of my favorites. I have the entire series in audio book format and have completed the first two and just started this one. Although I had read some of the previous reviews regarding this narrator, I decided to hold back my judgement and listen for myself. I realize that often times, perception is key and is different for each indivudal.

Sadly, however, the previous reviews regarding the perforamance for "Be Still My Vampire Heart" were not wrong. Although the performances in the previous two books were not perfect, they were still good in the fact that the narrators were able to differenate between characters and used accents that matched the characters. Ms. Rawlins, however, has fallen very short in this regard.

Not only does she not deliver the necessary accents, she seldom varies the delivery of each character. Not only is it very hard to determine when one character voice changes to the next, but her overall delivery comes across as flat. I have listened to many different books over the past years, and this performance is not close to what I have come to expect.

I listened to the first three chapters, which is enough to know that I don't want to continue with this book. Fortunately, I have read the book and will be able to move on to the next book in the series without losing any continuity.

Way to ruin it...

Would you be willing to try another one of Donna Rawlins’s performances?

Absolutely not. The midwestern accent gets old quick and her accents are off. It's very clear she doesn't quite connect with the characters. For example: a scottish character that says "ye" its not some old-timey yee. It's just part of the accent. They don't always say the whole word. Oh, and clit-OR-is. The mispronunciation got me every time.

Any additional comments?

This is a book I've read previously. I like to listen to audio books as I drive, but don't want something I haven't read before, because I tend to miss stuff. As a read, this has always been one I particularly enjoyed, but the narration just makes it drag and make me wonder what is taking so long with this plot... A shame. If you like the series, go read it on your own. Definitely worth it.

I love this series but.....

Would you try another book from Kerrelyn Sparks and/or Donna Rawlins?

Kerrelyn is a yes but Donna is a HECK no

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Donna Rawlins?

Almost anyone but Donna

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The actual book is great but the narrator can NOT do accents and can never seem to keep the accent during the entire sentence

Absolutely the WORST narrator I've heard yet!

Would you try another book from Kerrelyn Sparks and/or Donna Rawlins?

Yes

Who was your favorite character and why?

I find this series has a great ensemble of characters and without them the characters that the individual books in the series focus on wouldn't shine quite as bright without them. So I don't think I would be able to pick just one.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I was so put off from the narrator performance of the accents that I couldn't even finish the book all the way which was very up setting since I've read this book and love it and most all Kerrelyn Sparks books and enjoy listening to the audio versions of the books. If I could give the narrators performance zero stars I would since it was the only thing lacking. And fed only reason the overall rating is as low as it is is because the narrators performance was so bad which deterred you from how great the book really is.

Do you think Be Still My Vampire Heart needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Obviously it already does so this question is irrelevant.

Any additional comments?

I REALLY hated the narrator performance and if bad narration makes audio books unbearable for you like it does me you should NOT by any means waste a credit and especially any money this one unfortunately.

Good book

The only thing I didn't like is that this narrator took a really good book and made it very hard to listen to. Overall this was a very good book and Angus and Emma are two of my favorite Kerrelyn Sparks caracters, very engaging.

The voice artist did a great job.

The artists ability to commit to the different characters personalities. They did and a great job!
