What won't he do for a second chance?

Former model Kelly Hurley has finally put the ashes of the past behind her. After a passionate but turbulent marriage to rock star Vaughan Hurley that ended in heartbreak and divorce, Kelly rebuilt her life in Portland, where she settled so their two young daughters could be close to their father. Just not so close Kelly couldn't truly make her own way without interference from the man who shattered her heart.

Now Kelly's finally ready to move on, and she's planning to marry another man. But not if Vaughan has anything to say about it. Vaughan knows he was a fool all those years ago. A young, selfish - and prideful - fool. Even as he buried himself in the fast, decadent rock-star lifestyle, he could never drown out the memory of Kelly's beauty and love. Or the sweet, searing heat whenever they touched. For years he's had to deal with the pain of seeing her only because of their daughters, but it was never enough. Now Vaughan must prove that he's the only man Kelly needs, before he loses her for good. And there's only one way to do it....

Sweet and endearing

Sometimes I wonder how not so liked characters from earlier books in a series can be redeemed. This book definitely did it for me. I liked how character strengths turned into flaws and vice versa. Net/net very enjoyable and light but I cried nonetheless. Definitely keeping this book and most likely will listen to it again.

I like Lauren Dane's books because they are usually hot and edgy. This is on the lighter side but still sexy I won't mind reading similar ones from her. I always like Kate Turnbull's performance and this is no different. Very good delivery overall and feel satisfied to have listened to the right book at the right time

Loved this one

I loved this one best of all. We got snippets of disapproval of Vaughn’s wife in other books. In this one we get the whole picture and the change is handled really well. The narration enhances the story and it’s sexy. Loved this book.

Second, Third, Fourth Chances? Will They Make It?

NOTICE: THIS REVIEW IS OF 3rd BOOK IN SERIES - MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!!

Second chances, are they to be given? Especially when one party is injured so badly… Kelly met Vaughan one night after a concert. She had a healthy career as a model and he was instantly attracted to her.

When Vaughan brought his very pregnant bride to his parent's house – the Hurley clan was not impressed. Vaughan's mother thought Kelly was a gold digger who carried on with Vaughan until she could get pregnant and on the hook to an easy life.

Kelly had the baby and Vaughan turned out to be an absentee father – as a successful rock star he purchased a place for Kelly to live with their daughter though he was only in and out. She stayed to remain in close proximity to his family, for their child's sake. After putting up with that for a while, Kelly decided that perhaps another baby would keep him around more often. As we all know that doesn't work!

So Kelly gives up her modeling jobs in exchange for raising her daughters. Vaughan was always good about sending money to support them, but was rarely home. As they continued to fight, Vaughan encourages Kelly to file for a divorce. He wants to be free of her. However, she was very much in love with him, their girls and the idea of a family - white picket fence and all, was always forefront in her mind. That all changed one night when she walked into their house to find her husband with another woman who had her hands in his pants. Just as Vaughn had wanted, finally, maybe Kelly would get the hint.

She did and she granted him the divorce that he wanted, but she had to file.

Now, armed with wisdom and humility Vaughan wants back into the lives of his former wife and their children. She has never denied any sort of contact with Vaughan or his family to their children. She had given up her career - far away from New York & giving up her life's dream of modeling. One day, years later, Vaughan shows up to visit with this girl any promises he's going to stay this time and Kelly could count on it!

Kelly has heard this before, so she warily allows him into the house under the pretense of seeing his daughters.

This clever story tells of how Vaughan is trying to get his wife back. The antics that follow are sometimes hilarious, sometimes hard, sometimes sweet and generous. Kelly is raising two children and has hardly has enough time to understand it all. Can she and Vaughan even be roommates? She didn't want someone who's just there for certain reasons.

Follow their journey, learn about their accomplishments and many setbacks on their way to find if a love/lust from years ago can be rekindled into something now.

The narrator was good but female characters, but a bit lacking with the male characters. I wasn't too distracted at all by the narrator's voice.

Lauren Dane left some characters at loose ends so I'm not sure but that she might be continuing the series. If she does, I'm on the fence.

Notes: mature themes & strong language

I loved it

This is one series that for me every book was five stars. Vaughan Hurley is one part of the rock band, Sweet Hollow Ranch along with his brothers. Eight years ago he walked away from his family now his ex wife Kelly told him she was getting married and he wants her back. Kelly Hurley was a top model when she met Vaughan Hurley and quickly ended up pregnant and then married to him. Both of them were young and Kelly being a new mother had to grow up fast Vaughan never wanted to he never realized what he had until it was almost gone. For eight years Kelly has raised his children by herself with him being a part time dad. Vaughan let his family think that Kelly was a gold digger that left him for nothing especially his mother Sharon he never told them that Kelly caught him with another woman or that he really never wanted a family. I also felt sorry for the way her mother raised her and how she is still treating her I would have cut her off. I also liked her friend Stacy she was a straight shooter. This was a really good book that I stayed up all night long listening to. After their daughter has emergency surgery Vaughan moves in with Kelly and the kids more importantly he wanted to be there with them. Kelly's boyfriend Ross was a real piece of work he felt threated by Vaughan he wanted her to cut all ties with him and even wanted to adopt her kids cutting Vaughan out of there lives, but Kelly was not having that and gives back his ring. Vaughan and Kelly both realized that both of them have changed a lot and although they still had a lot of sexual chemistry. I loved how Vaughan finally told his family the truth about Kelly and although she never kept the girls from seeing his family in fact she moved across the country to be close to them his family didn't treat her right. I loved that they got their happy ending. This was a really good series and I think that this is the last book. The narration on this book was very good . If you like reading or listening to hot rockers than I recommend that you read this series.

Very Enjoyable

I love Lauren Dane. I am loving this series even though it's not really like her other books. It's a little light on the kink but it still has great writing and great characters. The story was sweet. Kate Turnbull did a great job narrating it!

The Best 2nd Chance Romance Ever

This book was phenomenal, the best 2nd Chance Romance I have ever read/heard. Vaughn and Kelly just showed what love can do if you want it enough. Kate Turnbull was a wonderful narrator bringing all the emotions in this story to life.

Meh..

I just didn't enjoy this series as much as I enjoyed Lauren Danes other works. The first book in the series was promising but as they progressed, the writing declined. They lack the tangible passion most of her books ooze...I'm not saying these books are bad, they just weren't the creme of the crop in my humble opinion.

Guys sound like whining girls...

I very much enjoyed Vaughn and Kelly. She had loved this man from day one. She had given herself completely. She was owed some truth, honesty, and respect. She was owed a true apology.

Vaughn was a grown man still confused about his feelings. It took another man wanting to move in and take care of his family for him to real sit back look at what he had done wrong for years.

Kelly deserved a medal dealing with the hostility from her ex in laws.

Narration was still bad. Men sounded like women. If not paying attention some characters had the same sounding voice.

Anticlimactic, but still great

What about Kate Turnbull’s performance did you like?

I love Ms. Turnball's narration of the story. Each character has their own voice and "feel" and she does it seamlessly.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were a few moments that stuck with me. Sharon's apology was awesome, heartfelt. It's interesting, I don't think I've heard a heartfelt apology in years, if ever. I enjoyed understanding Kelly's growth. There were a few bold moments with Vaughn that stuck out. It seems that she put a lot of time in making herself a better, more healthy person while also becoming a better mother. That's admirable. Her insights were thoughtful and educated.

Any additional comments?

My issues with the book were minor. I understand that Vaughn was the primary issue in their marriage, but I don't see where Kelly took any responsibility for her part. Even her relationship with the Hurley's could have been better or less confrontational if she had stood up for herself over the past 8 years. She could have set Sharon straight without belittling or demeaning Vaughn. Vaughns redemption and growth was wonderful and it showed that unfortunately, they were too young, inexperienced, and immature the first time around. Just because Kelly stepped up and became the woman/ mother she needed to be didn't absolve of her of her culpability in the relationship/ marriage. I also didn't like how with all her growth and insight, she was still ready to marry a man she didn't love...not admit she was still in love with Vaughn..her righteous anger with Vaughn had to be expelled, yes, I agree, but I didn't see where he had issues that he got to expel with her.

Regardless, I loved the story. Since it was the last book, I wish we got some updated info on the rest of the gang..did Patty propose, what did Mary and Damien have, what's up with Ezra and Tuesday? I need a trip to Hood River.
