Publisher's summary

Lieutenant Apollo Floros can ace tactical training missions, but being a single dad to his twin daughters is more than he can handle. He needs live-in help, and he's lucky a friend's younger brother needs a place to stay. He's surprised to see Dylan all grown up, with a college degree...and a college athlete's body. Apollo's widowed heart may still be broken, but Dylan has his blood heating up.

It's been eight years since the teenage Dylan followed Apollo around like a lovesick puppy, and it's time he showed Lieutenant Hard-to-Please that he's all man now - an adult who's fully capable of choosing responsibility over lust. He can handle Apollo's muscular sex appeal, but Apollo the caring father? Dylan can't afford to fall for that guy. He's determined to hold out for someone who's able to love him back, not someone who sees him only as a kid brother.

Apollo is shocked by the intensity of his attraction to Dylan. Maybe some no-strings summer fun will bring this former SEAL back to life. But the combination of scorching desire and warm affection is more than he'd expected, and the emotion between them scares him senseless. No fling lasts forever, and Apollo will need to decide what's more important - his past or his future - if he wants to keep Dylan in his life.

Book two of the Out of Uniform series.

sweet story, rough edges in writing

had good depth of character, interesting plot, hot sex scenes. the tension was mostly good, sometimes a little contrived feeling, especially since he really did need grief counseling, but then was able to get over it all in a couple of weeks. The wounded back was an odd plot element. I have a bad back. hot pounding sex would not be something that happens the days that are so bad the doctors and pills are involved, especially for a seal that would only seek help if it was serious pain like a 8-10. most of the book works ok together to make a sweet interesting story. there were some rough edges.

Best of the series, IMO

This was my favorite of the "Out of Uniform" series, and after having read it twice, listening to it has brought to it a whole new dimension. I fell for Apollo as soon as he was introduced in "Off Base", and this story brought the character alive (The hot single dad thing may have had something to do with that).
The narrator, Cooper North, does an excellent job with the story. His reading is vibrant and alive, and he understands the characters and the story. I was quite impressed. The only criticism I have is that the argument on the sidewalk should have been a bit more intense, but that is a minor observation, and takes nothing away from my overall impression of his performance. A very enjoyable presentation. I highly recommend it, and will look for more by this narrator.

The third time is a charm

I’m listening to this whole series for the third time. It’s hard to be critical of them, but I had to say this about this particular title the narrator/performer Cooper North is just extraordinary! He gives life to his characters. I confess I’m a fan boy. I will have to check out some of the other work he has done.
Annabeth, Albert craft wonderful stories that I invariably find a place to cry.at 😊 you simply cannot go wrong with any of the titles in this series
Enjoy yourselves.

Wonderful! Perfect narration!

Sigh. This is just what I needed! I’d been in a bit of a slump – either the books weren’t hitting me right or they were too angsty or too short or too silly or… But this one was Just Right!

Annabeth Albert is fast becoming one of my top-tier-favorite authors. I’ve yet to be disappointed and I’m really enjoying this series (as I’d LOVED the gaymers series from which this is a spin-off).

Things that pinged my radar: Hot, alpha, military man with a tremendous soft side and a great father to boot. Equally hot, younger guy with confidence coming out his ears and determined to do the right thing – whether it’s in his personal or professional life. (Men who like kids – so, so sweet!)

While I worried for awhile that the pining would get to me, I realized that Apollo had been deeply in love and that needed to be honored. I did wish he’d have cut the crap a bit earlier than he did – but – I loved how Dylan handled it. He didn’t settle for second best and he knew his own heart enough to ask for what he wanted.

As for the hot times – Whoooeee. So. Hot. Lots of dirty talk and sex in front of a mirror! Way, way, way smokin’! But the feels were there, too. There was definitely an emotional connection that went beyond the physical.

So… all in all this just hit the spot for me. Hot. Sweet. Touching. Great writing. Fantastic!

(And these covers.... YOWZA! So HOT!)

Audio

Cooper North is an excellent narrator. His voice is really well suited to the younger Dylan. He doesn’t do a lot of accents or anything to make the various characters unique, and that is a bit disappointing.
I didn’t love his version of Apollo – only because I kind of had an idea of what he sounded like in my head and it was something more deep and rumbly. He did a nice job of making him sound “older” and you could always tell who was speaking.
However, Cooper North is good with emotion and timing and is very easy to listen to. This is definitely a great way to enjoy this story and though it wasn’t exactly as I’d have wanted it, it was still very satisfying.

Great story

I couldn't put it down. I've listened to several gay romance. this is one of the best. Good plot and character development. Erotic parts good but not overdone. Narrator was great with all the voice changes. Definitely listen to this again and buying all the rest of the series.

Slow burn with fantastic narration

I have been dying to read a MM military book and was thrilled to find At Attention by new to me author Annabeth Albert. Cooper North did a fantastic job narrating this best friends brother trope read. Apollo is an uptight, type A personality, Navy SEAL who after losing his husband tragically 2 years ago has struggled to balance raising his two twin girls as a single dad and continue with his career. Dylan is his best friend Dustin's younger brother who has had a crush on Apollo since he was in high school. Now circumstances find Dylan living with Apollo and helping him with his girls for the summer. Their chemistry is undeniable and the sexual chemistry is off the charts, but will Apollo be able to let go of the grief that has haunted him since his husbands death and let Dylan love him? Check out At Attention and watch these two men find their HEA.
