Publisher's summary

Another Shot is a contemporary romantic novella based on the classic story of Ruth and Boaz.

My name is Rae, and this is my story. Regretfully, it begins on a sad note. Everything was taken from me when my husband died in a tragic car accident. The only person on Earth who could have possibly been hurting more than me was my beloved mother-in-law, Laura, who lost her husband and only sons in the same accident.

Laura was forced to leave Arizona and return to New York, and I decided to go with her. I packed my things with no prospects or expectations; all I had was the undeniable urge to remain with her. As a result of becoming a widow at 23, I was in a surreal frame of mind; and making a new start with my mother-in-law seemed like the only logical decision.

Less than two weeks after the accident, we were on our way to New York. I trusted we'd make it somehow, but never imagined someone greater than us already had a plan in place: a plan as romantic as a fairy tale.

Wonderful!

What a nice contemporary story based on the book of Ruth. I love it and Kate Rudd did an awesome narration. This is the first of Brooke St. James books that I’ve listened to and it won’t be the last.

Cute story, good narration

It was cute how the author put in all the elements of the original Ruth story. The romance seemed quite a bit rushed, though, considering this was supposed to be a modern retelling set in the real universe. I generally only like mutual LAFS set in an alternate universe setting, like sci-fi or shifter or fantasy.

I was a bit thrown by the slight accent of the narrator at first, since the MC is supposed to be a natural born AZ resident and the major metro areas of AZ have no accent to speak of (unlike say, Long Island, Chicago south side, Boston, Twin Cities, etc). I guess since most of the characters were NY Italians, that's what they went with for the narration.

cute and very sweet

This was a very cute and modern twist on the story of Ruth. I love reading books like this - a biblical story with a modern twist! The narrator did a good job with the New York accents.

Short and sweet

I don’t usually listen to Novellas because they’re so short, sometimes you don’t really feel the connection to the story and characters. But I really liked this one!

Not biblical at all!!!!

This has nothing to do with the purpose of why Ruth and Boaz story was told. Ruth and Boaz lived for God. Naomi came back to God. Even in modern days God still is. Yes they have similar situations but they cannot compare. This story defeats the purpose of why Ruth and Boaz was told. it wasn't what I expected. Disappointed really. Don't get me wrong the story is nice but it's best on it's own. This is just a story of a man and a widow. Ruth and Boaz is so much more than that and I was really looking forward to hearing it in a modern prospective. Just because you mention God once or twice in a sentence doesn't mean God's in it.

Wonderful short story for a Christian Reader

Beautiful reworking of the familiar story of Ruth retold for a modern world. Engaging from the start and fresh cultural twist. I especially liked the emphasis on family in this rendition which was believable to me. I pray you find joy in the reading or listening.

Love love love it

What a great retelling of Naomi, Ruth and Boaz Bible story.
Sweet and clean.
I loved it. The narrator did a great job with the New York Italian accents.
The characteristic of Ruth comes out in Ray.
Dominic is the modern day Boaz.

I’m looking for more from this author Brooke St James

Sweet

I really enjoyed this modern day story based on Ruth and Boaz. It was it's own story, though there was some correlation to the biblical story. I also enjoyed the narrator. She did a good job with both male and female voices.

Another insta love, that I loved

I don’t know why Brooke St James insta love stories are ok with me, when other stories I read are not.

I love the characters she writes.

This is about Rae who just lost her husband of one year. Her mother in law lost all of her sons and her husband in the same accident. When it’s clear she needs to move back home to NYC Rae is determined to go with her. She’s the only family she has left and she is not letting her go.

When she’s there she meets Dominick, her late husband’s cousin. She is surprised when she catches feelings for him. He feels the same way pretty much from the moment he sees her.

I loved their sweet story. It was done tastefully and respectful of her late husband.
