Spectacular

This recording of one of my most favorite books, lives up to my expectations and that is a first time for me. When I begin an audio version of a book that I have already read, I am usually disappointed within the first five minutes. The narrator was the perfect choice for Caidence Harris which was paramount as the novel is told from her point of view. She really is perfect. I would have liked a slightly deeper voice for Robyn Ward, but that is completely subjective. Overall, Ms. Cordileone pulled off what I thought was impossible. I enjoyed the audio version of this book just as much as I did when I first read it.

For me, the Audible version actually made Robyn a little more sympathetic than she is in the book. The narrator was able to highlight what may have been going on in Robyn's head a lot better than I had imagined, so I felt like there were a few "Ah - ha!" moments for her character. This version made it more clear that Robyn was hoping that Caid was a lesbian and showed her disappointment when she concluded that Caid was straight. This was much clearer than how it was on the written page. The narrator also did a great job of navigating between Caid's inner monologues and what she was actually saying in a way that was not confusing.

The recording itself is first rate. The sound editing is virtually seamless. So often in audio books, there are pops and shifts in ambient sound when there are edits and I find those so distracting. I have a background in film/television post-production so I am really picky about these issues. This is the best recording on Audible that I have heard to date.

If you read the book, I think you will definitely love this version as well. It adds a new layer of depth to the work and is a joy to listen to.

I didn't think I could love this book more!

This book has been my favorite for years. I first read it online, then paperback, then ebook and now audio book. I've read it probably 6+ times over the years so I couldn't wait to listen to this book when I heard Dog Ear audio was producing it with Lisa Cordileone narrating. I've loved Lisa's other work on books by Robin Alexander.

I didn't think I could love this book more - but the audio adds another star to a 5 star book. I caught nuances that I missed or glossed over after reading it myself - maybe too many times? Lisa doesn't just read, but she acts too. Adding a laugh, a sigh or a groan when the author writes it in.

Sure the book isn't perfect. Caid has the worst luck. Robyn is frustrating at times but because the book is written in the first person by Caid, Robyn can be a mystery. (Check out V Reader's review. They give a great insight on Robyn that the I totally agree)

If you liked (or loved) the print versions - listen to the book. If you've never read the book (really?) and are looking for your next audio book, listen to this book. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Amazing

So glad this was finally made into an audiobook and done correctly. Lisa Cordileone is one of my favorite narrators. If you loved the book, you will love this narration.

Top in my book!

Always one of my favorite books in the canon, this recording does credit to the fine writing. Lisa's voice and the technical precision of the recording make this a delight to listen to over and over again. So thrilled to have this to enjoy! Many of the novels are too thin in substance to hold one's attention for long. The story, the romance, and the atmosphere of Hollywood make PLAYING a more enduring classic. Lisa's lilting voice is captured by the crisp recording of her voice. Can't wait to listen to it again and again.

Wonderful, wonderful book

I read this book twice on Kindle (it's that good) and got it as soon as it came out on audio. Lisa Cordileone's voice is still playing in my head for some of my favorite scenes. She's a sensational narrator, and her reading takes this book to an entirely new level.
