Publisher's Summary

Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball - or that Prince Charming would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.

Who was that extraordinary woman? Ever since that magical night, a radiant vision in silver has blinded Benedict to the attractions of any other - except perhaps this alluring and oddly familiar beauty dressed in housemaid's garb whom he feels compelled to rescue from a most disagreeable situation. He has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, but this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her. Yet if he offers her his heart, will Benedict sacrifice his only chance for a fairy tale love?

    "Excellent, Touching!"
If you could sum up An Offer from a Gentleman in three words, what would they be?

    Finding true love

What was one of the most memorable moments of An Offer from a Gentleman?

There were so many memorable moments. When Benedict rescues Sophie from the son of the household she was working at, and from the son's drunken friends, was one.

Have you listened to any of Rosalyn Landor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She always gives a great performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and did. I started listening to it in the afternoon and did not finish until the wee hours of the next day.

    Any additional comments?

The book was wonderfully written and the performance perfection.

    "Entranced the whole time!"

Even though it is an obvious reselling with nice variations of the Cinderella story, I thoroughly enjoyed it and was never disappointed but always hung on every spoken word. I love Rosalyn Landon's narration, she is absolutely one of the best for natural sounding male voices and making females voices fit their character personality. I love this family and have only read Antony and Daphnes stories so far, will look for others now. Charming and romantic with great chemistry and intimacy between the Benedict and Sophie.

"Much better after "Cinderella" goes away."
Would you listen to An Offer from a Gentleman again? Why?

Maybe. The recreation of the Cinderella story may not be as disconcerting as it was the first time around. After the too obvious, the story was much better.

Would you recommend An Offer from a Gentleman to your friends? Why or why not?

Maybe. It is fun. It is fluff and it was so much better after the author got away from the exact Cinderella story.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The scenes in the jail and then in front of the magistrate. The truth comes out!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

The first part of the story so paralleled the Cinderella story that I could not lose myself in the tale. After it changed, I enjoyed a typical romantic story.

In my opinion this was not the best of the Bridgerton series. It was a little over the top with the Cinderella theme and went on too long for the story it was trying to lay out for the reader. The performer did her usual excellent job with the book. She made the time spent worthwhile. I love Rosalyn Landor's performances.

"it was a little hard to get in to this one"

it was a little hard to get in to this story and I put it down for months but I got more then half way through it and then was truly intrested in finishing it . Other stores in this series are much more intriguing and I never put down but this one left me wanting. in the end it did finish well. I just wish it did not take till chapter 16 to pick up.

I love Julia Quinn and this is one of my favorites. Benedict and Sophie make me cry but the HEA is everything it is supposed to be.

    "Disappointing"

    Cons:
-- The plot is endless. Nothing happens for looooong periods of time while Nicholas and Sophie moon over one another.
-- Ms. Landor's rendition of Nicholas is so nasally and pompous that I found him unconvincing as the character is described.
-- Nicholas rescues Sophie from rape, behaves gallantly and kindly ... and then, after a few days, commits classic, frank sexual harassment by using his power to force her to stay with him in hopes she will become his mistress. And if she doesn't, he threatens to accuse her of theft and she'll likely be hanged. He continues to bully her through most of the book and he's actually kind of a selfish, self-absorbed, insensitive prick.
-- The coincidences are a bit much, although even those seemed to be wasted by the author in advancing the plot... such as it was.

    PROS:
I like the character of Sophie and the way the narrator portrayed her. There were some other well-done characters and the resolution was contrived but satisfying, but the plot was just too drawn out.
