4/5 Stars Romantic Suspense w Fun Characters

Summary: Grayce Walters, paranormal vet, gets a vision from Mitzi that Ewan Davis is in danger. He, of course, is a hot fire investigator who's looking into a suspicious fire down at the wharf.

Additional Comments:
- Writing quality is very strong overall.
- The mystery itself is fairly straightforward. It's not a police procedural or anything so the main character's investigation is confined more to generic snooping. She does do some pretty stupid things overall, but it's all because she loves her man ... I guess we can at least understand the why of it.
- The repeated use of strong language got tedious for me. (But I will say that the narrator did a nice job with the performance.)
- The touch of paranormal in here was well done. I think more could have been done with the connection to Grayce's sister, but the dreams/visions were decently described.
- Twist at the end kind of cheapened all the character(s) did to investigate up to that point.
- The idea of doing acupuncture on pets is intriguing. I know zip about acupuncture in general, but the descriptions sounded reasonable.
- Fun side characters - Davis's aunt and Grayce's friend James are outlandish in their own ways
- Content warnings: very strong language, adult content goes beyond the "mild" setting (I'd probably categorize it as medium level in at least 1 scene)

Conclusion: Good romantic suspense/ mystery story if you can handle the descriptions of sex and the repeated strong language.

Great start to a series

I was really looking forward to this book and was not disappointed at all. Certain books just grab hold of you from the start and this is one of those books. It pulls you in from the first sentence and never lets go. It's an entertaining, well written story with plenty of suspense, intrigue and mystery along with a great cast of characters. Add in a little romance, a bit of humor, a touch of paranormal ability and it's just an all around very enjoyable listen. It's definitley worth your time and credit.

Well rounded and immediately likable characters. Both human and animal.

This is the first book by Jacki Delecki that I have read but it won't be the last. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Em Eldridge did a great job with the narration. She has one of those voices that was made for narrating books. It's pleasant and easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Her narration flows smoothly. Great character voices both male and female. She brings the characters, their emotions and the story to life. Hopefully she will be narrating the rest of the series. Very enjoyable.

An Inner Fire was a good book. I enjoyed the story and loved how the hero's pets we're actually full fledged supporting characters. The human supporting characters were also a lot of fun. Narration was terrific. I was given a free copy of this book and am freely leaving this review.

Captivating Romantic Suspense!

An Inner Fire by Jacki Delecki is an engaging and enthralling story set in modern day Seattle. I believe it is ideal for anyone who enjoys procedural dramas with a bit of romance thrown in. The story centers around Grayce who is an extraordinary veterinarian. She possesses great intuitive gifts and studied martial arts from a master. After witnessing a suspicious fire on Seattle's waterfront, she meets Ewan, the handsome by-the-book fire investigator and his dog, both of whom immediately takes a liking to Grayce (the dog usually dislikes females). Grayce eventually helps Ewan realize that the fire is part of much larger criminal enterprise.

I really enjoyed this book because it is well plotted and well written, with a few surprises thrown in to make it interesting. What I loved most is the dialog between the two main characters, which flows naturally as if the reader is listening in on their private conversations. I also really loved the secondary characters, especially Grayce’s cross-dressing best friend and her street-wise assistant, as well as Ewan’s Aunt who raised him after his parents died when he was young. I was so entertained by this story that I couldn’t put it down and listened to this book in one day – all 10+ hours – forsaking all other plans for the day.

Em Eldridge narrated this audiobook and she did a wonderful job. Her narration flows naturally, and she is easy to listen to. She really brought the characters to life, giving each character their own distinct voice. In summary, I highly recommend this audiobook!

I LOVED IT!!!

Wow!!! Romance, mystery, suspense and pets all in one! This book was so good and had many of my favorite criteria in one story. I really thought this book was well plotted and the characters developed. The imagery in this book was so good too! I was pulled into this story from the very beginning. I am a pet owner of multiple dogs and cats, so this book really appealed to me. I would love to find a veterinarian like Dr. Grayce Walters. The narrator did an excellent job with the various characters. I love it when they have distinguishable voices for the characters. This book is a standalone listen and part of a series. I think both the author and narrator are very talented. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I was provided with this review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely look for more books by the author and narrator in the future.

Great start to this romantic suspense series

Romance, mystery, comedy and animals, you cannot go wrong with a combination like this! Jacki Delecki has started her Grayce Walter series with a bang! Grayce is an animal acupuncturist who has an ability to speak to animals and heal them. When she witnesses a fire, she meets Ewan Davis, the fire investigator. And the sparks fly..pun intended. This mismatched couple is endearing from the start. Davis is a facts man, an investigator who relies on certainties. Grayce struggles with her relationship with Davis because she does not feel comfortable revealing her abilities, and when Davis's dog Mitzi relates to Grayce, there is an inner turmoil that she needs to deal with. There are quite a few twists and turns in this mystery to find out who started the fire and why. Surprise at the end, which always makes for a good book. Lots of supporting characters, but I really liked James. James has lots of attitude and is very sure of himself. He is a true friend to Grayce, always available in her time of need. Mitzi the poodle is the star of the book for me, that pup is amazing. Man's best friend is an understatement for this dog. Lots of fun listening to this one.

Em Eldridge is an wonderful narrator. She has a full, rich voice and is able to convey feelings easily. I loved her performance.
