*Loyalty… Honor… Dignity…*
Just a few short months after the shifter emergence tensions are already running high. Asked to join Alpha Squad to promote cooperation between shifters and human authorities, Eric King is not convinced of its relevance. How is he supposed to concentrate on his training if his inner bear is insisting he take his squad leader as is his mate?
Given command of Alpha Squad, Major Janine Williams is far from pleased with her orders. But after delving deeper into the strengths of her team, Janine discovers a wild untapped potential lurking beneath the surface. They could find success. As long as everyone works together. As long as she can manage to keep her relationship with Eric, the tough East London bear shifter, strictly professional...
Can Eric and Janine find a way to put aside their doubts and fears of each other? Or will the rising tide of propaganda drown them before they get the chance at a happily ever after?
Join Alpha Squad in this steamy paranormal romance you won't want to put down. If you like Alpha City by Bryce Evans or Bear Patrol by Scarlett Grove, then you will love the Alpha Squad Series by Lorelei Moone!
Major Janine Williams, is tasked with whipping shifters into shape and she takes her job seriously. Too bad others are eager to see her and the shifter community fail. Bear shifter Eric King shows Janine just what physical feats the shifters are capable of. Eric is also determined to to show Janine his physical prowess in bed.
First things first, I loved the story. It’s lighthearted with moments of drama and of course steamy scenes. Just what I expect from a Lorelei Moone audiobook. What I didn’t like was the narrator. Hmm… let me amend that, Audrey Lusk is a fabulous narrator… if this story was an epic fantasy novel along the line of, say The Hobbit or Harry Potter. But for a paranormal romance, this narrator is a complete disconnect for me. Scenes that should have been hot, were just awkward and anything but sexy.
The is a perfect example of the wrong narrator for the wrong audiobook, both very good on their own but a disaster when put together. I still give this book a solid 3 stars because the writing is in line with what I expect from Lorelei Moone. If I had to do it all over again I’d read the book.

Fun shifter tale but there wasn't any developing of the players. I never felt I knew either one, although, if I had to choose, I think Eric was developed deeper. Odd being a female narrator. The story was interesting and was low-heat.
The narrator did a believable female portrayal but delivered a pretty bad male interpretation.
One Thumb Up. Not raising it high, though.

This is another shifter romance from the author. The story was well developed but quirky. Eric and Janine are attracted to each other and Eric knows she is his mate but he is all military and knows he can't force her into a mating. It is funny when they start hearing each other in their minds. I gave the narration a three star because she does not fit the book. Loved the SAS Officer and wolf shifter. I also enjoyed the interaction between Eric and his brother Adam. I got this book via audiobook boom.

I loved this mix of military and shifters. Janine may be female, but her ranking in the military and attitude during training show that she is a woman who's fiercely independent and in no way does she need Eric to swoop in and be her man. I loved that even though Eric has found his mate he doesn't just come in and take over he actually follows Janine's lead. This was a really great story and Audrey's accent and wonderful narration helped set the story perfectly.
Would you try another book from Lorelei Moone and/or Audrey Lusk?
yes...I enjoyed the writing.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
nothing...I enjoyed the book
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
her words are kind of dragged out a bit & she didn't get the male voices very well...
Was Alpha Squad: Boot Camp worth the listening time?
yes...

This story is really good, but the characters could have used some more development.
I'd also would have expected to see more shifting going on, there is some going on but mostly it's just mentioned.
The narration is good but she doesn't get the male characters voices very well.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
(I received an arc in exchange for an honest review)
So... I enjoyed the story, it was short and entertaining. I'm finding that I am a fan of the Shifter Romance genre and may be particularly partial to bears. However, I was not a fan of the narrator of the story - she sort of reminded me of Angela Lansbury. I didn't think that her voice suited the story and it was more of distraction to me - but this could be a personal issue. I totally want to continue on with the series, but I'll probably opt to read the books as opposed to listen to the audio version (if they choose to stay with the same narrator). All in all, I give this 3 out of 5 wine glasses.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
It was really fun watching how the conflicting missions would resolve.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Audrey Lusk?
Idk - while she was great at adapting her voice for each unique character, I wasn't in love with her speaking voice for the narration.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes!

I look forward to reading more from the author!

Entertaining, fun and enjoyable short shifter military story. This is an spin off of her other series, Scottish Werebear. You don't have to have read that series to enjoy this series. The story flowed smoothly and never felt choppy. This was just a quick entertaining listen with a little steamy romance and a HEA.
The synopsis gives a pretty detailed outline of the story.
The characters were okay. Being a shorter story there isn't much time to really develop the characters. Eric was a good character and likable. Janine was just there. I did like that the setting for this story provided some time for H/h to get to know each other and before they acted on their attraction.
Now that the shifters have come out and the world knows things could get really interesting in future installments.
Audrey Lusk does a good job with the narration. Clearly spoken. Her English accent is good. She has some really good character voices. Her female voices are good. Some of her male voices are really good and others need work. Although we all want our big bad Alpha guys to have deep sexy voices sometimes just a bit of difference is better than trying to do a voice that is too deep and makes them sound creepy/dumb. Enjoyed the Scottish male accent. As the story goes on her character narration evens out and is more normal/smooth and not as "forced" sounding as it is in the beginning. Overall though her narration was enjoyable.
Repeated lines in chapter 2.

The secret has hit the world in a wave of panic and fear. The response form a task force aimed at controlling the fear and panic of humans, keeping the peace, and punishing those that can’t or won’t quite follow the rules. I loved getting a glimpse at some of the previous series couples/characters. I love that things continued to the next step with more love and more mating and more adventure.
Eric and Adam find that they are heading for a new world of adventure and love. Eric just never expected that he would be working so close to the one that would be his for life. Janine has been chosen to help with the leading of the Alpha Squad. She just never expected to find that she would have so much to gain or lose all in one assignment. This was wonderful shifter romance with action and revelations. Janine and Eric both learn somethings they did not in the beginning. If quick reads are what your looking for then stop right her and pick up Alpha Squad: Book Camp. Up next we will she what Adam gets himself into.
The Narrator of . . . Review of . . . ALPHA SQUAD: BOOT CAMP (Alpha Squad, #1) . . . Audrey Lusk had the perfect natural narration accent that transported you to the English countryside. She handled the various characters with clarity. It was easy to discern which character was speaking. I could determine male and female. The cadence was nice and time clean. I found a small issue with the editing of the audio. There was a hiccup in the reading, with repeated lines, late in chapter 2. Once past that issue things ran smoothly.
Would you listen to Alpha Squad: Boot Camp again? Why?
Yes. Well read, great characters, and a good dose of humor.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Janine because she's such a strong character.
What does Audrey Lusk bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She brought a unique voice to each character which gave more depth to the personalities of the characters.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The parachute scene.

In a world where shifters have recently exposed themselves to humans, plans are in place to seamlessly merge the workings and needs of both communities. One such scheme is the newly formed Alpha Squad.
Major Janine Williams is given command over the training of a motley crew of humans and shifters to form the squad. While being given the responsibility to form a well-prepared and trained team, she is also given orders to ensure the squad fails (which instinctively goes against her personal ethics). With politicians and military generals watching her team's progress closely, Janine has to carefully balance what is expected of her with what is expected of the Alpha Squad.
Sounds complicated? Add in a profeasionally ill-timed and inappropriate hot attraction with one of her trainees, Eric King. Out loud he is almost the ideal recruit but he has something others don't. This bear shifter is Janine's true mate, something she, as a human, isn't quite prepared for. That isn't challrlenging enough. Throw in a mysterious voice in her head, and what is a woman to do?
As a one off, this book isn't all that unique. However it is the start of a new series with interesting characters and powerful adversaries and, as such, warmly invites you into its world.
