Publisher's summary

After thousands of years, they're back...

Awkward outcast omega Emery Jones isn't expecting to find anything more than adventure when he leaves his favorite hiking path and follows a strange series of markers through the woods...and he's certainly not expecting to come face to face with the most gorgeous man he's ever seen. He's instantly smitten, but there's one problem - his dream guy insists that he's a dragon prince from another time, and Emery is his fated mate!

After thousands of years in stasis, Coryphaeus of Novis, the draconian Crown Prince, has been awakened by a kiss from his fated mate. But when the shy little omega denies his draconian heritage and tells Cory that dragons are nothing more than fairytales, Cory knows that the world isn't as he remembers it. The dragons that once ruled the world are gone.

It's too bad the threat they previously faced hasn't gone extinct, too...

Alpha Awakened is the first book in the Waking the Dragons series and features literally rock-hard hunks, a mom who knows way too much, a perilous threat that transcends time, and a HEA just as legendary as the dragons in it. This 52,000 word audiobook contains mpreg and is intended for adults only...did you really expect anything less from Susi Hawke and Piper Scott?

Let our dragons sweep you off your feet…and into the starry night skies of Eureka Springs!

Great narrator, interesting story line

I listened to the audiobook of this, and I'm not sure if I loved it or not. The narrator was actually super awesome. He did a great job at differentiating the voices, and I felt like he captured the characters well. What I wasn't so sure about was how the dialogue overall sounded when it was read aloud as opposed to reading it. There were a lot of repetitive phrases and sentences that were said that after a while it got a bit annoying to listen to(for one example-Coryphaeus talked repeatedly about how much he needed to protect Emery. I got the point!). I don't know if I would have noticed it as much if I were reading it rather than listening to it. The overall story of the dragons was interesting, though, and it kept me intrigued. There are questions that haven't been answered in the big overarching story, so I would definitely be interested in reading more. I REALLY enjoyed the voice of the narrator, so I will definitely be checking out more of his books.

Dragons! Great start to the series!

4* Story: I read this book when it first came out and enjoyed listening to it this time. I felt that this book gave a good introduction to the rest of the series and to the dragon history in their world.
Alpha Awakened introduces you to Emery Jones (a quirky omega who loves hiking and wants an adventure) and Coryphaeus of Novis (draconian Crown Prince). Cory has spent thousands of years in stasis and awakens from a kiss by Emery to a changed world where dragons are nothing more than fairy tales.

4.5* Narration / Performance: I want to be completely clear that this was my first audible book, so I can’t really give a good comparison of Colin Darcy’s narration to others in the field. Following that note, I felt that the narrator did a great job of giving each character their own distinct voice; I could tell who was who, even while listening over a few days. His voice was easy to follow along with and his enunciation was perfect.

4.25* Overall: I love reading Hawke & Scott’s books, but I’m not sure that I loved the dialogue being read aloud versus in my head – it didn’t seem to flow as well as it could have. Overall, I enjoyed this story (and the rest of the series) and would recommend it to those who like this genre or these authors.

This is a fun book to listen to, it puts a new spine on the world of dragons I hope the next in the book in the series is just as good.

Enjoyed listening to this story.

Enjoyed listening to this story and it is a great start to a new series. Cory and Emery were a great couple, loved how they worked on Emery not knowing what was going on with him, and Cory was hoot with being from another time. Colin Darcy did a great job narrating.

Really good

This story is really good. I typically don’t like mpreg stories but this was great. It focused less on the pregnancy and more on the story. Seeing the world through Cory’s eyes was the best. I wish there was more of that in the story. Book two is definitely on my list to get.

interesting story, not the best writing or narration

I liked the concept of this story. The narration really didn’t do the book and favors. I wonder if it would have been better to just read it. Might try that for the next book

The antagonist storyline had zero development. There was really no exploration or discussion of who the bad guys were or what motivated them. Also the very vague hint that the government/man somehow also being the bad guys was sort of just hinted at a couple times but never explained or done more with.

I gave it a listen since it’s alpha shifter, mpreg etc. Short enough to just listen to the whole thing without losing much time. But like I said i’ll not be finishing the series via audiobook

Love in the modern world

This was a good story about a dragon that is woken and finds his soulmate in the modern world after being asleep for centuries. I really like Emery and his ability to adapt to the changes he undergoes after waking Cory. Cory on the other hand has quite the learning curve but seems to do well.

I'm not a fan of Sam, a dragon expert that Cory's mom brings in to help. He's anxiety and paranoia drive me nuts. However, Colin Darcy did a great job of narrating each of the characters, especially Sam and Cory. It was very easy to distinguish who was talking based on his performance.

I enjoy the fact that we get to see the whole pregnancey in the book, not just part of it. Even though I know the next story belongs to Sam, I do look forward to the next part in the adventure.

So good!!!

I have read the text version of this one and really enjoyed it so I was eager to listen to the audiobook version to see how it stacked up! I am happy to report that the audio totally enhanced this book and made it a joy to listen to! I had never listened to this narrator before and am always a bit cautious at listening to someone new but Colin Darcy was an excellent narrator! He really brought these characters to life in a new way for me and I am so glad I listened to it :)
