Publisher's Summary

Abandoned as a child and unable to remember her past, Morgan was raised as a hunter, one of an elite group of fighters sworn to protect humans from the dangerous paranormal creatures who invade our world...creatures such as herself. Her life changes the day she's summoned to the Academy of Assassins, a school that trains witches and hunters to eradicate paranormals who prey on humans. Her first assignment - find and eliminate the killer who is using the Academy as their own personal hunting ground.

As Morgan delves deeper into the investigation, she will need to dodge assassination attempts, avoid the distraction of romantic entanglements with the devilishly handsome security expert, Kincade, and his maddeningly overprotective teammates, while keeping the volatile magic in her blood concealed from those who would use it for their own purposes.

When the danger increases and the school is threatened, Morgan must unearth her missing memories before someone finishes the job they started so long ago - killing her and unleashing a plague that will consume the world.

Good new series - 3.5 stars

This is a refreshing story about a female hunter, Morgan. As a female she has a few strikes against her. Her life is shrouded in mystery. She cannot remember anything before the age 10. There is action and Morgan does a really good job of kicking ass. She is fast, strong and fast healing.
The Academy is home to many interesting species: werewolves, witches, wizards, hunters, fae, hellhounds and others.

Girls at the academy are being killed and they have a connection to Morgan. Her job is to find the killer.

*****Spoiler*****
The story loses points because of the cumbersome method that Morgan interacts with her male teammates. She drools over and sexual objectifies her teammates. She is the only “human” who can run with the wolves and sooth the vicious wolf. The fae admires her skill with weapons and she can make friends with a hellhound.

All her teammates have endured an emotional or physical abuse because of their species. All of them are without a mate. With soothing touches and words, she empathizes with their hurt and forms emotional intimate relationships with them. There is the usual struggle where the men want to protect her and Morgan chafing at their efforts.

If she can get over her teammates being sexy, it would be a much better story.

Definitely a new favorite!

A nice twist to old lore. I loved the integration of the more bizarre and not so used paranormal creatures. The author combined every creature to fit naturally in her fictional world. I'm impressed and will enjoy listening to more of her books.

Worth the money

Good story line and cast of characters. The narrator did a great job of changing the voices for each person.

It would have been so good...

*contains spoilers*

I thought the performance was pretty well done - the reader switched between voices really well throughout the novel... although I thought the cousins voice was very questionable.

The story itself has an awesome concept I think, but was ruined with some of characters choices. Morgan was supposed to be this very strong powerful character and yet she didn’t come off that way. I might compare her to Richelle Mead’s Rose Hathaway or Laini Taylor’s Karou? Personally, I hated Kincade and because he was such a major character in the story he was hard to ignore - he is best compared to Sarah J Maas’ character Tamlin.

I’m not a feminist, though I did find some parts a little bit ridiculous. Morgan never really makes an actual attempt to defy Kincade and just goes along with whatever he says, even when he basically let Asher throw himself into the rift... again. It seems that any time a character that we are lead to like goes near a rift, they are placed in a scenario where Morgan can help them but is prevented from doing so by her ‘team’ for her ‘protection’ even though she is a trained fighter. It was almost irritating how quickly she got over her anger at the people preventing her from doing anything significant. Not to say she should whine and mope or brood, but she calmed down too quickly when her previously best and only friend was left to possibly die.

Overall I think the book was well written, it was very detailed (perhaps even too much so). The concept was great. And though I didn’t like most of her characters, some of them I really enjoyed like: the werewolf, the siren, and the hellhound. Wouldn’t recommend it to someone who likes when characters voice thoughts and opinions... as that never seems to happen in this book. Though you should definitely read the other reviews as this is only my perspective.

****Academy of assassins****

Academy of assassin's is a fast paced story with lots of kick ass actions and hot assassins and of course our feisty powerful heroine. It's thrilling and heart pounding fights scenes and sizzling chemistry between Morgan and her men. Traci Odom is magnificent in her narrative.
