Publisher's Summary

"Love can carry us through all of this. It doesn't age. Its back doesn't go out. It doesn't get arthritis, or need a motor. It doesn't lose its hearing or become forgetful. It is what keeps on when the years get late and our hair is grey. It's what can heal and buoy us through anything. I want to be old with you, yes, but I want to feel young with you forever."

I finished reading the words and found myself speechless. I was a single mother, yet this selfless bachelor had come into my life, and he had literally changed everything. I'd never known a love like this.

    "Not certain what I expected!"

I think I was born in the wrong decade to appreciate this book. Parts of this book I really enjoyed and parts grated on me. I cannot imagine dating someone if they were still married. I think if they have not shed their baggage, run away as they might never get divorced, is called letting go and escaping! I thought the female lead character was shallow and immature even though she was in her 30's. Both the author and narrator were new to me. I was provided with this review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily written this review.

    "Sweet Light Romance"

Gina is finally getting back on her feet after her divorce, taking a new job as a security guard. On her first day at the job, she glimpses a charismatic man on the security cameras, and his friendly smile captures her instantly. Over the next several weeks, she watches him over the cameras before they finally meet. When they do, she discovers he's just as friendly in person. But Gina is determined to forgo any relationships until she grows stronger as a person.

The first hour and a half of the story was told rather than shown, like a best friend reciting the events of a bad week, with all the conversations and events summarized. When Mark and Gina went on their hike together, the story began to be fleshed out more. The dialogue really started to shine and Gina became a hoot. Her inner dialogue had some truly funny moments, from her slang phrases she sounded just like a spunky southern girl. She's fun loving and impetuous, and drags Mark right along with her.

The narration was done well, Courtney Parker read at a good pace and her voice fit my image of Gina. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

    "fantstic romance!!!"

This book is the reason I love romance stories - I had a huge smile on my face when I was done listening to this one. The journey to romance with a single mom and the most wonderful hero. The characters are easy to relate to. The narration was perfect! I really enjoyed this audio and can't wait to check out more by this author and also by this narrator.

    "Sweet romance"

Loved this story! It follows the evolution of the character's relationship from friends to lovers over years. I love how they bring in other characters in their lives especially her children. A very moving story, I laughed and I cried. The narrator was excellent. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

    "The Stranger's Kindness"

☂️ This book introduces us to Gina, a divorced, single mother of 2. She is sleeping with a man who promises he is going to divorce his wife. Gina is starting a new job as a security guard on the graveyard shift.

The 1st night she is working she sees a man who is very attractive. She will end up finding that the man is called Mark and after developing a friendship with him, she must reevaluate her priorities – as well as morality.

That is the basic backdrop. I didn't particularly care for the heroine, in the beginning her behavior was selfish and seemed to be without thought for her children. Mark is a saint and puts up with a lot of crap. Other characters add a lot of depth to the story.

After the 1st couple of chapters I was tempted to shut it off, but *I received a copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review* so I plugged along. The main character had some really serious character flaws but by the end I liked her. (I didn't love her, I liked her.)

    4 stars for the story

The voice performance was very good. Courtney Parker was able to perform the male characters in a believable manner. The female characters seems to come easily to her.

Overall experience is 4 stars as well.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review. If you found it helpful, would you take a moment and select – yes – below? Consider following me on Audible, as well. Thank you!

    "Contradictions and immature characters"
    Any additional comments?

I do not even know where to begin this let’s start with the characters Mark a bachelor doesn’t need a women in fact jokes about them but one look and he is a night in shinning armor who will bend over backward for a women he doesn’t know? He also has a girlfriend that lives somewhere away from them, but from the writing you think he is a playboy with a different girl each night. Gina is thirty something but acts like she is twelve the things she does as far as getting his attention and how she deals with her ex’s and friends etc are things we did in middle school. Every time I thought this was going somewhere I found it wasn’t as the character went out of character and changed their whole attitude. Gina’s emotions were all over the place first she wouldn’t leave the shmuck and then she would break up with him and go back. When she found out he was married she still didn’t break up with him. Her daughter talked about how he scared her and you thought she saw the light no one would hurt her kids and then she brought him back into their lives. She tells Mark they can’t be anymore than friends but then just about attacks him. The whole plot is like this. They say one thing and do something else. I don’t think I ever hear the shmucks name and everyone calling him that got a little old.

I think the narrator did a pretty good job but maybe a more mature voice would have been better. Ms. Parker’s voice is young and exciting but didn’t sound 30. Some of her character voices were outstanding but some of the voices were too much alike and sound too much like her normal voice which was a little confusing. Her male voices need a little work they need to be a little deeper. There were times when you could hear the excitement or sorrow in her voice I thought this was done very well. There are 3 places about ¾ way through where she repeats words or a sentence. I hear no background noise, it was a very clear audio. If any breaks were taken I could not tell. At times she needs to pause a little longer where other times it was just right. There were some time you could tell she was reading, it didn’t seem natural the flow was off but other times it was perfect. I think her natural voice is very lovely.

These characters are just too wishy washy with emotions going too far one way and then to far the other way. Too much filler was used you could have skipped most of some the chapters and not missed much. There were times when the author hinted things were going to get dangerous and exciting or a character was going to go psycho but it never happened. I really had to push myself to listen to the whole audio. Too much contradictions and immature characters the author lost me almost from the first page and never got me back. Some love this drama filled child like story I just did not.

    "Ode to Saint Mark"

A Stranger's Kindness was OK as far as romances go but the main supportive character needed flaws to flesh out his humanity. The schmuck was truly a schmuck in every sense but his humanity could be understood. Courtney Parker's voice has an ethereal quality that I thoroughly enjoyed but I could not help but wonder if this material would benefit from a more mature voice. "Sweet Romance"
    Any additional comments?

Overall I enjoyed A Stranger's Kindness but parts of the story were a bit annoying. The constant reference to Gina's ex-boyfriend as "the shmuck" wore a little thin after a while. I found the main character Gina to be very immature and gullible for her age. And weren't her children a little old for bedtime stories? Her boyfriend Mark had the patience of a saint for putting up with the roller coaster of a relationship that she had him on. I was glad to see a little growth on her part and I'm happy that she finally came to her senses about the men in her life, as well as her responsibility to put her children first. The story, minus my knit picking, was a sweet romance with a happily ever after and the narrator did a good job with the characters and pacing.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is my honest opinion.
