Publisher's summary

Between grad school and multiple jobs, Naledi Smith doesn't have time for fairy tales . . . or the patience for constant emails claiming she's betrothed to an African prince. Sure. Right. Delete!

As a former foster kid, she's learned that the only things she can depend on are herself and the scientific method, and a silly email won't convince her otherwise.

Prince Thabiso is the sole heir to the throne of Thesolo, shouldering the hopes of his parents and his people. At the top of their list? His marriage. Ever dutiful, he tracks down his missing betrothed. When Naledi mistakes the prince for a pauper, Thabiso can't resist the chance to experience life - and love - without the burden of his crown. The chemistry between them is instant and irresistible, and their flirty friendship quickly evolves into passionate nights. But when the truth is revealed, can a princess in theory become a princess ever after?

Featured Article: Must-Hear Contemporary Black Women Authors

It’s a fact that a high percentage of the best books that have come out in this century have been written by Black women authors. (Truth be told, there are so many excellent works that this list could simply centered on the best contemporary authors and still be accurate.) Nevertheless, Black women’s stories deserve to be heard, and when the stories are this compelling, this engaging, and this beautifully written, they’re impossible to ignore.

Editor's Pick

Hey, fairy tales do come true
"Have you ever heard of the woman who married the Ethiopian prince after meeting him in a nightclub in DC? Go on, google it, I’ll wait. My point is, this story about Naledi being a lost African princess seems pretty realistic to me, even if she doesn’t believe it herself. I love the way Alyssa Cole tells the story, too—all the elements add up to be The Story We Needed. And I especially love the way Karen Chilton narrates Naledi and her rational charm (she’s a scientist)."

Coming to America meets savvy scientist

The story feels like it was inspired by Eddie Murphy's "Coming to America" minus the more obnoxious stereotypes. He finds the woman he was was betrothed to when they were children before her parents fled with her to America. He discovers that her parents had died shortly thereafter and she was raised in foster care. She knows nothing of her early life. She is now a scientist.

Of course, the relationship gets more complicated from the start when he does not reveal his true identity and connection to her.

It's a sweet, delightful story with some intrigue. I totally enjoyed it and am looking forward to listening to more books by Alyssa Cole.

Finally!!

This is literally the first book I have read in my entire life that features an all black cast and a princess/prince love story. Definitely predictable I will take it

Greattttt!!

I really liked this book and would recommend this book. It had a great storyline and sexual storylines. I wish this book was a movie or TV show. It made me laugh, cry, and mad. I wish they had gotten married. The narrator was great. I this couple together and glad they found each other after her evil uncle plan when she was young and older. I hope the next book give a little more detail about their lives and how her grandparents reacted to her and their son being evil.

Enjoyable

Loved it! The storyline kept me up. I laughed and smiled all the way through. I enjoyed the cultural aspects and use of today's lingo. The narration was wonderful ( accents and all).
