Publisher's summary

Miss Antonia longs for a soul mate, but she's much too buxom for most gentlemen's tastes. However, Patrick Fairchild, duke of Exton, sees Antonia as the perfect model for the naked Botticelli Venus he longs to paint. If Antonia will not disrobe for the sake of art, he plans to trap her into a marriage of convenience. And so he begins to woo his reluctant prey, only to lose his heart in the process.

It was OK, but I’ve read better…

I read this book for a second time after 20 years. However, it pales in comparison to romance novels I’ve read since. The story was OK, but there isn’t as much depth as there could be.

Another Unappealing Hero

The hero is a gross drunk who has the appeal of a narcissistic frat boy crossed with a sticky jock strap. Sadly, I can't seem to stop listening to a book unless it is absolutely vile. So I listened to the end hoping for character evolution. No dice.

The heroine (as is typical) is a sweet but beautiful martyr with low self-esteem who falls in love with the hero because he is handsome (and rich and a duke). But wait, the heroine is "gasp" plump. So how could anyone love her. She may as well slit her wrists. Luckily for her the duke wants a renaissance-style woman (Rubenesque?) to paint. And he is willing to marry her to get her naked. So dumb.
